Increase disk space on a guest OS VM second hard

I'm under Vsphere, esx 4.0. I have a virtual machine with a guest OS of Win 2003. I ran out of space of hard drive disk number 2, the disk is configured as believe. I increase the size by means of the settings. When I check in disk management I see the other 80 GB I gave him. When I go to use GParted Live CD, it I cannot resize the player. I did this resizing using GParted and never fallen on this issue. Is there another way to increase the size. Also I don't know if it's important, but it's p-to-v (conversation physical to virtual)

to add a little more.  I agree to use the construct in the windows tool, diskpart.  And if this isn't your C: drive then you can't just use diskpart and increase the volume, while the virtual machine is online.

However, it said.  If there is a single HARD drive presents to the client and it is partitioned in windows, the only way to increase would be to use the converter.

I take advantage of VMWARE with linux host and vista 64 comments, but I encountered a problem, running out of disk space.

During the installation of VISTA, I chose 25 GB of disk space, as recommneded by IG of installation).

    Now I need more space.

According to the virtual disk manager, I did

    VMware-vdiskmanager mydisk.vmdk 40 GB - x

Now "The VM setting" windows says HD 40 GB. But internally under VISTA, disk space is always 25 GB. In fact, the size of disk file (view on the side of linux) is only 22 GB. No idea how to increase disk space. He must start from the installation, but it's a little painful.

If the guest is Vista or Windows 2008, then you should be able to extend the partition while the system is running.

Take a look at this article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 won't let you do that, while the disk is online.  Vista and Windows 2008 changed things.

For versions of Windows Vista/2008, look for the Dell ExtPart.exe utility, as it will do the job for you.

    See you soon,.

  • Can save us from the Windows updates to another drive to increase disk space

Hi I want to ask I can save the update of Windows to another example of player: as d ' drive, or an external hard drive, because the update are by default save to my c drive. And my c disk space becomes low.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your query details.

I also appreciate that fact that you want to save the updates of Windows on another drive or location in order to increase the free space in C; drive.

Save updates of Windows on another drive location is not recommended because it can cause corruption in the system files which can lead to some unstable operating system. It can also affect Windows start the process.

Updates are automatically downloaded into the subfolder "C:\WINDOWS\Software Distribution\Download".

If you want to increase the disk space, I suggest you run Disk Cleanup and check if it helps.

    Please see this link:
    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-cleanup=Windows-7

It removes temporary files, empty the "Recycle Bin", and removes a variety of file system and other items that you no longer need.

Note: When running Disk Cleanup on the disk hard if bad data files are found, all these data could be lost.

I also recommend move your data files stored on drive C: to another drive to increase disk space.

  • Increase in the Allocation of disk space for the guest system

I use v.6.5.2 from workstation.  I have a lot of excess space on the hard disk of the host system, but with hindsight I initially did not award a sufficient amount of space for the guest system. Is there a quick (and painless!) way in which I can assign storage drive increased the operating system invited without workstation removal and re-Assembly of?

If you are just looking for elements run back, I wouldn't have selected Vista for guest OS... Probably be much better to use XP Pro (SP2) than any version of Vista... On the one hand, XP uses much less space on the disk and other... You can run XP Pro (easily) on a vDisk 16-20GB... IF you're dead set on running VIsta, then get the Business edition and who perform. I would never use any of the editions home for any professional use. Windows 7 is much better than Vista (Windows 7 is commonly called "Vista done right" within the it community). I'm actually using Windows 7 Professional x 64 on two of my systems. I have a XP Pro VM on my system main for when I need either the software which is only able to turn it on, or when I need to test something. Otherwise, I stick with Win7 these days.

Vista Home (Basic or Premium) are not exactly the wisest choice for operating systems... Especially if you work on this system...

Mac HD 160,11 GB free on 499.25

    Hello

My wife gave me his iMac and she is listed as a user Admin I created my own user. I want to create more disk space by removing his admin account.

    Apple gives these instructions:

OS X Mavericks: remove a user

If you are an administrator, you can remove users that you would no longer have access to your Mac.

When you delete a user, you can save the home folder of the user, which contains the files and the settings of the user, or delete the folder.

Open the preferences users and groups, and then click the lock icon to unlock it. If required, type your password, and then click on unlock.

Select the user you want to remove, and then click Remove under the list of users.

    Do one of the following:

To save the home folder of the user as a disc image, select "Save the home folder in a disk image." The disk image is saved in/Users/deleted users.

In order to leave such base file, select "do not change the folder." The folder remains in / Users /.

To delete the folder of your computer, select "Remove the folder." If you want to keep the programs that read the raw data to recover all files, select "delete the folder safely."

Click on the user to remove.

If you do not remove a personal folder user, you can restore the user and the content of the home folder.

My questions, that they do not explain the instructions.

    1. can I delete his account if I'm not the Admin? I can access the admin account.

    2. can I designate me as the new admin, and then delete his account?

    3. I have, indeed, will create more disk space by removing account here?

    4. If I register his record as a disk image, which will open disk space without delete me the entire account?

    5. can't increase memory - is this true?

My computer works as fast as I want and I'm trying to reduce the load on the system.

    6. I go about it the right way or is there something more I can do?

Hi Tony, I asked your serial number erased. You never want to post in a public forum.

To answer your question, no, you can not delete the account if you are not admin. You try to delete the account to become the sole Director of the computer? If so, everything will always be linked to his Apple ID and will require a password to authenticate anything. If this is the case, you must wipe the drive and reinstall the OS using internet recovery.

  • Bootcamp lost after the new partition (try to increase disk space for the window)

I have Version OS X El Capitan 10.11.2. Here are the details on my system.

So I tried to increase the space in the partition for the training camp by using disk utility. I created the new partition. But now I can't bootcamp while I restart the computer and hold down the option key. I tried this in the terminal:

    sudo fdisk e/dev/disk0

But it does not seem to pick up my bootcamp windows. I also tried to restore the mac as early date of backup via external hard drive, but that doesn't seem to help either.

Here is the screenshot of the output. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Can you post the output of the following Terminal commands?

    diskutil list

    Cs diskutil list

    sudo TPG - vv - r see the/dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk/dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt to enter your password, and there do not appear to come back. You can also see caution against improper use 'sudo' and the potential loss of data due to an "abuse" of the order.

You can only increase a score when there is free disk space adjacent to that partition. In your case, you must use a partitioning tool to move the drive H: and then increase the C; drive. I usually use the gParted live CD / ISO in such cases.

  • Server 2008 you see not increased disk space

I needed to increase the size of the c: on my Windows 2008 Server R2.

I crossed vSphere WebClient and changed 1 70 GB to 100 GB hard drive.

I then went through the utility on the server disk management to extend the partition, but the new 30 GB is not there.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks for your help.

There are a few possible causes:

    1. right click on disk management and re-scan disks.  It should detect the extra space.

    2. do you have a snapshot stored with the virtual machine?  If so, you cannot change the size of the disk.  Validation/delete the snapshot, and then try again.

  • SAN NAS heads - to increase disk space

    Dear..,.

We just installed the FS7610 NAS heads in the wake of our PS 6110 Equallogic cluster. Maybe a stupid question but im going to ask anyway now. Our NAS cluster has 791 GB allocated. We create containers that exceeds this GB 791, need us more space.

Normally when you're a LUN you go to change the setting, only for the NAS LUN there is no option to develop.

    How to proceed from here?

The volumes of "sin" you can see in the Group Manager are special and protected.  The FS cut a 'reserve of nas' from an EQL pool given. So if you need more space, you have to increase the reserve "sin" and that to change containers.

Minimum size for the nas reservice is 512GB which ends at only 225 of usable space. If you choose 1 to you get 734GB.

    Kind regards

  • Impossible to increase disk space

    Hello

I am having trouble to increase the size of a Virtual Machine that has been previously converted to a physical machine with VMware Converter Standalone.

The fact is that all the drives are grayed out and I am unable to set a different size, even if the virtual machine is turned off.

I checked that no snapshots are taken to the virtual machine, and no snapshot files are in the DataSotre.

I tried also to remove the machine from the inventory, and read, but not Lucky.

I think that a solution is to clone or convert with VMware Converter, the machine once and resizing disk, but this solution is time trust and I am unable to stop the machine too long...

    Any ideas or solutions?

    Thanks in advance.

That explains it. According to the log file, only the third disk is connected to the virtual SCSI controller, while the other two are IDE drive. In this case follow the article provided earlier by AakashJ to convert virtual disks SCSI disks.

  • Reference Dell poweredge r530 - increase the disk space

    Hello

We currently have a Dell Server poweredge R530, with installed 5 hot swappable drives with RAID 5 configured. I need to increase disk space for our virtual machines, bought an x 2 extra 1.2 TB SAS drives to install. What is the correct process to add 2 new readers to the table and increase the space available in the 2012 R2 windows server? Could someone sanity check process below please:

    1. install the 2 new drives while the server is powered and operating normally. (What I have to install 1 player and wait a while, or two disks can be installed directly after the other?)

    2. go in dell iDRAC and confirm the visibility of 2 new readers.

    3. wait until the readers successfully have been added to the State through iDRAC Tracker

    4. go in the management of the storage within the 2012 R2 server to allocate new space for the virtual machine partitions.

Is more correct? It feels like I'm missing an essential step, it cannot be that simple that it allocate the additional storage space on a live production server?

    Any advice appreciated

    Thank you

    1. the two drives can be added at the same time.

2 iDRAC is not the best way to do it. Unless this is your only access to the server, use OMSA leave within the OS.

    3. the process is not automatic. Once readers show up in a State of PREPARATION, you will need to go to OMSA, PERC, storage, virtual disks and select Reconfigure in the drop-down list of tasks available for RAID 5. (In fact make the statement reconfigures / expansion was the 'crucial step' you left on your list of ;).))

    4. Yes.

  • How to increase disk for/tmp space in virtual machine?

    People,

Hello. I use VM Player 3. My host computer is Windows 7 and VM is Oracle Linux 5.10.

When I copy a virtual machine host machine (1.2 GB) file, the error message appears:

"Unable to write file in Virtual Machine.Aborting the copy file operation."

To be able to copy the file into the virtual machine, it takes about 2 GB of disk space free for the folder/tmp.

I cleaned all the files in the directory/tmp which is now empty. After that, I ran the cammand:

    $df h/tmp

    Its output:

    File system: / dev/map/VolGroup00-LogVol00

    Dimensions: 95G

    Used: 90G

    Available: 48 M

    : Use 100%

    Mounted on: /.

As you see above, it has only 48 M free disk space, the file size is 1.2 GB to copy.

    My question is:

How to increase disk space for "available: 48" to the directory/tmp in VM Oracle Linux 5.1 so that can copy the file?

    Thanks in advance.

The log files are rotated. You have only the *.log files, but the former obsolete log files too. Are named name.log001 name.log002 and so on.

Check out some of the files you found the log files and remove turned the oldest logs first. Once you have deleted a couple check if cela disk space savings.

In theory, you can remove all of the log files, but be careful that no server component runs when you do that. Otherwise the logging stops until you stop and restart the component. If you are not sure if something is running, start with swivelled out newspapers.

  • ESXi 5 - increase the disk space

    Hello

    Info:

Size of the disk hard server: 4 TB

What are the limits on the increase in size of virtual machine disk space Windows Server? For example, if C: win2k8 is 80 GB, can I increase to say a maximum of 4000 GB (eg. only 1 VM on the host)?

I get a new server and I would like to give the VMs small readers and increase disk space needed in the future, if necessary. How will I know how much space the augmentable drive by?

If I start with young readers, does this mean that I won't be able to increase the disk space, as well as virtual machines with more readers?

    Thank you

Sorry, my bad. The size of the virtual disk does not depend on the HW version, it's just 5.5 ESXi and VMFS5.

In any case, some words of clarification:

    • You can create virtual disks with up to 16 TB, in c# Client
    • Large virtual disks > 2 TB-512Bytes (with up to 62 to 64 to no) are not officially supported in c# Client, even if this can work for drives <=16TB (see=""> vSphere 5.5 storage improvements part 1: 62 TB VMDK)
    • Note: You cannot manage VMs with HW version 10 in the c# Client.

  • Increase the disk space on a virtual computer which was extracted

I have my computer running virtual Windows 7 checked. I then checked back in the VM. I need to increase disk space on drive C (the winSxS directory seems to never stop growing). But there is a snapshot on the disc 'View Local Mode of instantaneous anchorage'. What are the consequences of the removal of the snapshot myself in order to increase the size of the disk? Throw this out of sync between my laptop and the virtual computer and require all of ~ 30 GB to download again?

    Hello
If a replication extracted from a desktop computer, a snapshot of the local desktop is created and then the changes are replicated with the data center.
If you delete the snapshot, you ensure that you validate the changes.  This force probably allows you to download all of the Office during the next Check-Out operation.
