How to increase disk for/tmp space in virtual machine?

People,

Hello. I use VM Player 3. My host computer is Windows 7 and VM is Oracle Linux 5.10.

When I copy a virtual machine host machine (1.2 GB) file, the error message appears:

"Unable to write file in Virtual Machine.Aborting the copy file operation."

To be able to copy the file into the virtual machine, it takes about 2 GB of disk space free for the folder/tmp.

I cleaned all the files in the directory/tmp which is now empty. After that, I ran the cammand:

$df h/tmp

Its output:

File system: / dev/map/VolGroup00-LogVol00

Dimensions: 95G

Used: 90G

Available: 48 M

: Use 100%

Mounted on: /.

As you see above, it has only 48 M free disk space, the file size is 1.2 GB to copy.

My question is:

How to increase disk space for "available: 48" to the directory/tmp in VM Oracle Linux 5.1 so that can copy the file?

Thanks in advance.

The log files are rotated. You have only the *.log files, but the former obsolete log files too. Are named name.log001 name.log002 and so on.

Check out some of the files you found the log files and remove turned the oldest logs first. Once you have deleted a couple check if cela disk space savings.

In theory, you can remove all of the log files, but be careful that no server component runs when you do that. Otherwise the logging stops until you stop and restart the component. If you are not sure if something is running, start with swivelled out newspapers.

Hi all! How can I copy a virtual disk file to a location for future use by another virtual machine? I tried to just copy the hard, but it did not work for me - the copy is about 1 KB size and I can not add it as a hard drive on another virtual machine. Can someone help me?

OK, so this client web vSphere that you use, in this case browse datastore doesn't show you the two files.

    Please follow the steps below

Please go to Cluster & host inventory

    Select your ESXi host

go to the tab 'Manage'-> settings-> Security-> Service Profile, and then click the button CHANGE

    Start the SSH service.

If please use WinSCP to connect to your Esxi host and navigate to the folder of the virtual machine as in the screenshot to the suite, I navigated to a folder that is my VM name: Win10A

and it has a virtual disk, if I want to take the virtual disk of this virtual machine to a different VM, I need to copy the two files that are highlighted.

the two are to train your virtual disk.

Download these two files and download them to another folder where you second VM resides, then try to tie it with this virtual machine.

  • How to increase disk space without guest operating system reinstallation

    Hello

I take advantage of VMWARE with linux host and vista 64 comments, but I encountered a problem, running out of disk space.

During the installation of VISTA, I chose 25 GB of disk space, as recommneded by IG of installation).

    Now I need more space.

According to the virtual disk manager, I did

    VMware-vdiskmanager mydisk.vmdk 40 GB - x

increase to 40 GB. It seemed to work, as I received a message,

    "Disk expansion completed successfully."

Now "The VM setting" windows says HD 40 GB. But internally under VISTA, disk space is always 25 GB. In fact, the size of disk file (view on the side of linux) is only 22 GB. No idea how to increase disk space. He must start from the installation, but it's a little painful.

If the guest is Vista or Windows 2008, then you should be able to extend the partition while the system is running.

Take a look at this article: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html

Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 won't let you do that, while the disk is online.  Vista and Windows 2008 changed things.

For versions of Windows Vista/2008, look for the Dell ExtPart.exe utility, as it will do the job for you.

    See you soon,.

  • ESXi installation before vCenter Server?  How can I get vCenter Server on a virtual machine on ESXi servers?

My plan for a new vSphere Essentials Plus 5.5 U2a installation is to have the vCenter Server on a virtual machine on the servers of the host on which is installed ESXi.  However, all the installation instructions I found indicate the user to first install the vCenter Server.  How can I get vCenter Server on a virtual machine on ESXi servers?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi munkyman welcome to communities.

After you have installed your first ESXi host, open a browser and go to https://your-ESXi-ip-or-FQDN

You can download the vSphere Client here. It is a windows application that you can install on your desktop. It is often referred to as the "c# Client vSphere" in communities and blog posts, because it is a new implemented in the vCenter Server Web client.

But for the beginning, install the vSphere Windows Client. You can then launch it and connect directly to your ESXi host. Here you can create your first virtual machine, which can be the VM vCenter (installation of Windows or device, that is you).

You can use the web client or connect to the Server with the client c# vSphere vCenter VCenter runs.

  • Host of XP with 4 GB of Ram - how much memeory can I connect to all virtual machines?

I am running 2 VM (XP Pro - 32-bit)) on the XP Pro - 32-bit host (running Server 2.0).  I know there is a restriction on the host computer using only 3 GB of it, but I was wondering if the virtual machines have this limitation.  Example - if I assign 1.5 GB for each of 2 virtual machines, that is to say 3 GB used my VM 2 - will be the other 1 GB can be used by the host?  Alternativle, could I run 3 VM each with 1 GB and then the host would use the 1 GB remaining?  Or anything running on the system limited to 3 GB?

I noticed when creating VM will occur, he says that I can attribute something like 4096MB before the exchange of memory?  Seems weird to me.  Any info on how memory is managed is useful!  I am not concerned about performance problems... I understand the limitation of the who simply want to understand whether or not the last 1 GB of ram is even used.  Thank you!

in fact, you don't have to worry about this

the VM process will be spread in all of your CPU/cores/HT etc.

  • Tecra A8 - 103 - how to increase memory for video card?

    Hello

does anyone know how to increase the memory for the video card on my Tecra A8-103?

I've heard that I can 'take' of RAM memory and 'Add' to video memory card, but don't know how? I just live in the BIOS, but have not seen this feature?

I need, because, when I work in Visual Studio .NET and pass code for fashion design, an image disspears and I have to wait 15 to 30 seconds until :(((back what the image

Therefore, I do not think that increasing memory video card will solve this problem?

Thank you x 10 in advance

You cannot pass the VRAM chips, they are soldered to the circuit board.

On some machines, you can dynamically increase the VRAM by installing more RAM System. Enjoy reading your user manual.

  • How to increase the RAM memory on a virtual computer.

    Hello!!!

    My 4.1 infrastructure

vCenter Cluster with 4 ESXi host

I installed a VM with OS Linux Centos 5.5

    VM has 2CPU, 2G_RAM, 7_GHD

I want to increase the RAM up to 4 G.

I have increase up to 4 GB with vSphere. But when I run MV, I run commands such as 'free' or 'top' and I discover who recognize only 3 GB

    But here:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1014006

This behavior is expected and does affect adversely the operation of the guest. Physical address extension (PAE) will not allow the guest to recognize all 4 GB of memory.

Does anyone know how to increase?

    Thank you very much.

    JOs.e

As you may know, 32 bit OS' are limited less than 4 GB of RAM, unless the EAP is enabled, and it will impact your server when it starts to use on 3GBs of RAM.

I suggest that using a 64 bit OS, this way you can throw all the RAM you want in it.

    Anyway check this: http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/redhat-enterprise-linux-4gb-plus-ram-support.html

If you finish by activation of EAP, make sure you only take a snapshot of the VM as VM/backup.

  • Allocation of disk space to virtual machines

I played around with assigning physical disk space to a virtual machine, in the "Add Hardware Wizard", I selected hard drive & gt; Create a new virtual disk & gt; He gave a size of 100 GB stored with the virtual machine and not independent.

When I started the VM space, which is all that I wanted to check if I stop the virtual machine. Rather than remove the new hard drive 2 settings of the virtual machine, I have restored a previous snapshot without the new HD. Now when I check the free space on datastore1, it seems that the 100 GB does not have to be added to the free space.

    I did something wrong?

    UPDATE:

I just tried the process again but this time assigned 8 GB.  Then I checked free space on datastore1, and now I have the 100 GB back, less the 8 GB I just posted.  Any ideas?

If you take out it just of the virtual machine, it does not actually remove the virtual disk that you created. As you say, there are 2 options when you remove the drive, we need to remove the virtual machine, and we need to remove the disc. If you remove the disk from the virtual machine, it will always keep the file even if it is not associated with a virtual machine. There is no question to delete this file. Just make sure that you delete the correct VMDK. It's easy, if it's the only drive of 100 GB or 8 GB, you have created.

  • I have a product key for a pre-installed version of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, now I need an ISO standard for installation in a virtual machine

    Hello

I bought a refurbished machine that came with Win 7 Pro pre-installed. I erased the HARD drive. Completely. Nothing more.

I don't want Win 7 installed on the drive, but I need an ISO to install it in a virtual machine for research reasons.

I tried to download the ISO of http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery, but when I gave the product key, I got a response that I should turn to the vendor of the computer and that is preloaded.

When I did and asked an ISO, they told me to download from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery. This seems to be the only source for Windows ISOs left in the world.

So, I run long in circles... infinte loop... :-(

How can I solve this misery?

    Thanks for the replies!

For 5 years, Microsoft made it fairly easy for users of the Windows 7 operating system to get reinstall media. If you have lost your support disc or installation retail collection; either it has been damaged or defective; You can download a copy of the edition that you have licensed from a membership site called Digital River. More recently, Microsoft ended the availability to reinstall media that you can download as a. ISO file which is a digital reproduction of an optical disc.

It was particularly convenient for people who could not easily get the manufacturer's recovery media, did not want to pay the fees required to get or preferred a clean configuration without the software packaged manufacturers or even a recovery partition does not work. It's easy to use, all you had to do was reinstall and reactivate using the product key located on the certificate of authenticity and download all the drivers on the manufacturers website.

Given that this option is no longer available, what are your options?

See the article for more details: how: what are my options for getting Windows 7 reinstall media?
