Inspiron 6000 video loss

As a favor to an old friend, I offered to find what might be wrong with his Inspiron 6000. I have experience w / Mac and unix for > 20 years, IBM ThinkPads and others for perhaps a dozen years, but nothing specific to Dell.

My observations are that while the disk activity and the LED indicator models seem to indicate the successfully started Windows XP (Home) in normal or safe mode LCD display has a resolutely red/violet tint which, in no time, returns to the normal color rendering and appearance, but then disappears completely. No distortion, lines, something like that, the video just give up entirely.

This was easily observed when I used F8 to select Safe Mode boot. The second time I tried it, the screen of choice for startup type appeared only briefly and then disappeared before I had a chance to choose anything. Clearly, the display should stay until a choice is selected or a much longer period. It looked like both a total loss of the video decreases every time I tried something, this is the first time with a system of 'cold' is longer than subsequent attempts.

So I think it's the backlight which is a failure, but I'm not totally convinced in this analysis.

Estimates on the cost of replacing new lighting in an Inspiron 6000? The owner of this machine use exclusively for IM, web surfing, etc. and has no data in the form of documents, music, email, or anything else that should be saved or preserved. My first reaction was that she should simply get something new.

Your comments appreciated with an open mind.

  • Dell Inspiron 6000: Wireless driver

    I'm looking for driver wifi for a Dell Inspiron 6000 running Windows 7, 32-bit. It's a Systems Conexant RD02-D110.

    Hello:

We will have to try some creative things to get these devices to work because your laptop was not designed to run Vista or W7.

No matter how it is, your laptop will not be able to run Windows Aero because the graphics card does not meet the hardware requirements.

First the graphics... Download and run this driver.  You will probably get an error not supported operating system.

    Conclusion of any windows error.

    FTP://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp34501-35000/sp34749.exe

Go to Device Manager and click on the video controller needing drivers.   Click on the driver tab, click on set to update driver.

Select her browse my computer for driver software option and find the folder of the driver that was created when you ran the file.

This file will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp34749.

Make sure that the include subfolders is selected and the driver should install.  Then restart.

Audio: You will have to hope that the audio driver XP works page for the support of your laptop.  Try to install manually if auto installation does not work.   If navigating to the folder of the driver does not work, let me know and I will give you further instructions to select the specific file to install.  I think that this issue goes into C:\Dell from what I remember, when I got a computer Dell laptop.

Wireless.  This will require a manual installation.  Download and unpack the first file in a folder.

Navigate to the folder decompressed from the network controller using the same procedure that you did for the graphics.

  • How do I know if my dell inspiron 6000 can run windows operating system 7 or not?

If I upgrade my ram dell inspiron 6000 6400x800MHz will be would be able to install and properly functioning on windows 7?

There is no device driver Windows 7 listed for your Inspiron 6000: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/inspiron-6000

For this purpose, you may find that even if Windows 7 can install there may be loss of functionality at least some of your devices such as Audio, touchpad, wireless, etc.

Suggest you just create a backup Image of your hard drive before you try to install Windows 7.

  • Inspiron 6000 - no LCD display

I tried to set my daughter-in-laws Inspiron 6000 for these past few weeks.
Problem: No LCD screen after the blue bar of Windows.
    Actions:
Last RELOADED, video driver (ATI MobilityRadeon X 300), Bios (A09), adjustment and Support of Dell diagnostics.  .
    An external monitor works fine.
A ran the last video diagnostics (from CD) and passes LCD display all tests.
When you display the view tab in the properties of the video, it shows the connected monitor (if you use the external monitor) and shows the LCD screen as 'Not connected', even if the lid is open.
The system is not in standby mode when the lid is closed, even if the option is enabled.
Conclusion: The lid switch must be faulty.

Has anyone replaced the cover switch in the Inspiron 6000?   If so, what is the part number and where can buy the switch?
PS. This forum has been a great help to me this good.

You can find it on the Drivers and Utilities CD you received with your computer. You can also download it from Dell downloads if you do not have the CD. When you access Dell downloads they will ask for your Service tag number that you will find at the bottom of your laptop. If she isn't here the download site can scan your computer and find it, even if it is not totally nessary, you can simply enter Inspiron 6000.

  • No sound Dell Inspiron 6000

    Its not recognized__ map

I have a card audio sigmatel in my Dell inspiron 6000.  I have had no sound since I installed Win 7.  Used the program of the Upgrade Advisor, which stated that all my material was good.  Dell drivers are obviously only good for XP.  I know this is an old machine, but does fine with Win 7 and I would like to tweak a bit more life of this machine.

    Hi Snkdrvr93,

I tried to check on the Dell website if they have updates drivers for Windows 7 and has been unable to find it.

However, I would suggest trying to download the Windows XP driver and try to install the drivers in compatibility mode and check if it works.

To install the drivers and the program in compatibility mode, follow these steps:

    1. open the program compatibility Wizard the by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking programs, and then clicking "run programs for the previous version of Windows.

    2. follow the directions in the wizard.

If you are unable to install a program, insert the installation for the program and, using the wizard disc, go to the drivers Setup file, usually called Setup.exe, Install.exe, or something similar. The wizard is not designed to work on programs that have an .msi file name extension.

To change compatibility settings manually for a program, right-click the program icon, click Properties, and then click the Compatibility tab select Windows XP SP2 and select the run as Administrator option. Click on apply and Ok. Try to install the program again.

Access the link below to learn more about how to make older programs in this version of Windows:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows

If the steps above do not solve the problem, yo umay contact Dell and check whether they have other updated for the sound card drivers.

I hope this helps. Let us know the results.

    Thank you and best regards,
