Install a new domain on a VM server controller in our Active Directory

Hello world

Thank you for your help in advance.

I would like to put a (with Windows 2003) domain controller in a Windows 2008 box and add the domain controller for the existing Active Directory network. My manager approves it and it will be my advised to work more VMWare work officially.

Here are some questions that I have and hope you can help answer:

1.) there will be problems to run a domain controller in a virtual machine environment?

2.) on the RODC (VM), I can install all services such as DHCP, DNS, WINS? And they will work only with no problem?

3.) on Windows 2008 Server, which I will install VM Server, that server must be a domain member server?

(4.) what the backup on the new domain controller? Can I just save the virtual machine files in the folder of BackupExec? Or free tools, I can try?

5.) I don't think the org will put money on the implementation of a san or vmware structures... According to what I have, have you any tips on this project? Is it a good idea to run the domain controller in the VM environment?

I thank very you much for your help once again!

Thank you very much for your info! # 1, you mentioned there are a few things must be aware, can I ask that those who are?

A few I can think of are:

(1) supported by Microsoft - backup methods if you want MS support for a problem with the AD, make sure that you use the supported backup methods.

(2) the time sync - more important still, how you intend to do.  VMware Tools or native Windows utilities.  Discover 1318 KB for more information.

(3) the safety of encapsulated all the vm files - that is why I recommended given the host on the domain.  It would be more likely to pick up updates of patches, GPO, AV, etc. like this.  Your virtual DC is now portable, and this represents a new security challenge.

(4) how to avoid snapshots on DCs - what can cause a USN restorations, unsupported directories and General nastiness that should be avoided.

(5) avoiding the DCs P2V conversions - what is generally not recommended. Their new construction.

(6) given the requirements of performance - make sure that your host can follow or actually providing the resources to the virtual machine.  You do not want your DC is slow for some reason any.

There are probably others I'm here leaving as well.  This is why I think that domain controllers does not necessarily make the best pieces for virtualization.  If you take a print server, you will see most of the above concerns disappear.  It can be done with the DC first, but it'll just be a steep learning curve.

    Hi people,

I have the people tools 8.52 and financial 9.1 on my windows 2008 server where I use my database in ms SQL Server 2008 R2.we created a demo base data and configured PIA which works very well.

Suppose if I want to create two databases more in the same server for different environments, which is the best way to do it?

should I just create two databases in sql server and run scripts as utlspace.sql, fcddl.sql, dbowner.sql... like that then create new domain in with psadmin and areas Web servers application servers?

    or

I should run PS_HOME\setup\PsMpDbInstall command, and then create database system etc etc?

Please let me know for any information on this topic.

    Hello

As Nevin said, both do the same thing, another automatic manual.

If you choose to use PsMpDbInstall, to choose Assistant option existing Create database on the server instead of set up a server and create a database

I prefer to run the scripts manually, that gives me more control and view the measures taken, but it is a personal choice.

Can someone help me solve this problem?

Are there any newspaper I can verify or any idea to check this?

You will need to go to your SSO Configuration and set your ad as default domain.

Once you do this, it will be displayed in the list.

  • VMView is no longer communicate when saw server is moved in Active Directory

    Here's what I use in:

My current view server is in our workstations container in Active Directory. However, I have to move to our container of servers due to compliance. I cloned for test. In my server VM to work that I can communicate with thin clients without any problem, in that in the servers container I can't communicate inside or outside.

I check services.msc both on the workstation VMWare View services begin to the Script Host all. In the non-working VDMDS environment and the Services only start tool. I even put them all to auto start, but they still will not auto-start. Even when I start services I still don't no connection. The firewall is off and remote desktop is enabled. There are no programs using port 80 or port 443.

    Any ideas?

To clone a member of the AD server is probably a bad idea because it will break windows security and makes probably the view-services won't start do not.

I don't think that moving the server see in the ad should influence and services unless there is some new air applied to this OU as firewall rules or something.

To test this, create a new connection to the server, a replica to the correct (new) and test that it works correctly.

When testing is done point the DNS to the new replica, and then move the old one.

  • Installing Vcenter new server with the new database

    Hello

We currently have the virtual Center 2.5 with SQL express back-end and we are planning to upgrade to vcenter server with Oracle backend. My original plan was to start over by installing vcenter on a temporary server with Oracle and eventually return the current server vcenter and use the same Oracle server. What would be the simplest solution for this? Essentially, in the end, we need to use the current server to vcenter but move from the db to the Oracle database. Our group consists of 3 servers and only active DRS at present (HA disabled for this upgrade). Can I upgrade the current virtual Center vcenter server directly and do fresh install for the Oracle database?

    Thank you

I would also install a new server vCenter thr.

After that, make a new configuration and Noor and if everything works correctly, uninstall the old und VC 2.5 check also the HA!

    Good luck!

  • Install of new problem-unable to connect to the server from a remote client DB.

    Hi experts,

I am new to set up a server oracle so pls bear with me...

I have install a db Server (11g on top of Oracle Linux 64 bit) home (192.168.1.90 static). I checked that db, listener are running. However, I tried to connect to the server from a different client machine (192.168.1.108) within my home network, but the server is not reachable. I got a ping from client and the server using IP addresses and host names. I followed the following steps to troubleshoot but could not go beyond the step 3, the server on port 1521 telnet-ing. Can someone help me what I need to do to make the port # (1521) is accessible by the customer?

    1. check with the 'ping' using the IP ('ping 198.11.34.43'
    2. check with 'ping' using the DNS (for example "tnsping uranus")
    3. try telnet to the IP address on port 1521 (telnet 1.2.3.4 1521)
    4. check with "tnsping" using the TNS service name
5 call SQL * more of the line command «sqlplus fred@flintstone» operating system If this does not work, make sure your receiver is the defined service of flintstone.
6 sign - on to SQL * more and connect with the name TNS ('connect fred/flintstome@service_name'
    7 in SQL *, try a select table@remote_db_link

Thank you very much in advance.

    Hello
    (1) problem can be because of the firewall. Please check if the firewall turned on for your environment
    (2) check sqlnet.ora, you can allow requests only from specific systems

  • How can I connect to an office server when you install a new computer on a network?

I was given the web address of 192.168.1.250 by computer scientist who created the network originally.

It is not specifically a "web address", it is more generically known as an IP address (actually that particular address cannot be used on the internet).

A simple check is to open a dialog box run (Windows and "R" key) and in the box, enter \\192.168.1.250.

This would bring a list of the actions available on the server, however, the user account on the PC must match a user account on the server. If it is not then a dialog box opens asking for a user name and password which must be a server recognizes.

'Servers' can be a number of different PC configurations just another delegate to host office files to a file full of breath and the print server in an Active Directory domain. How to make this connection at all times will vary and your "computer" should have been there with you.

    Thanks for the info Tim.

I have already completed the installation on a new virtual machine without Active Directory is installed, and now I can continue with the installation.

    Concerning

  • Problems after installing vCenter has 5.1 - no vCenter Server found

Sorry, I'm new to this and I'm having a problem installing vCenter 5.1 has on Windows Server 2008 R2 by using the simple installation.  After completing the installation without mistakes, I starts the Web Client vSphere, connect and it comes up with no vCenter server and a message that says "to get started installation is a vCenter Server system or permission to access an existing vCenter Server system.  I'm on my 4th time well and it is consistent in the result, so I figure I should ask.

If it's important, Windows Server is not a member of Active Directory, DNS works forward and reverse, I tried the IP address and FQDN name.

I don't know where to be troubleshooting it.  It is my first installation of vCenter. I checked all the services, and they are running.

I watched some log files and it seems pretty clear that something is trying to talk about something and is to be rejected, but I have no idea why.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

During the simple installation of vCenter Server 5.1 method, it will first install the SSO part. During this part, you will be asked to create a password for a user called admin@system-domain. Please note that this user is only for the management of permissions within the standards body. That's why you can't see any instance of vCenter SSO. After completing the installation of SSO, the vCenter Server installation will be lauch. During the installation, the wizard will ask you about the password previously configured for the admin@system-domain user, enter it, and then click Next.

Second, on the next prompt you should enter a global domain, user, or a local group who will be recognized by the SSO as vCenter Administrator service. Then complete the installation. In the end, make sure the "SSL Port" under the HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\ADAM_VMwareVCMSDS\Parameters registry key is REG_DWORD with a decimal value of 636.

    See: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1023864

After that, open the vSphere Client or the webclient service, enter your vCenter Server server's FULL domain name and and a name/password user (domain\username), which has permission such vCenter administrator mentioned in part II.

    I hope this helps.

    Kind regards.
