Install Win 7 on new SSD, DV7t-3000

Hi all

I just bought a new SSD 60 GB for my Pavilion dv7t.  I would like to install Windows 7 on SSD for fast loading times, etc.  However, the player is only 60 GB, and not the drive of 300 GB the OS is currently on.

Because these computers were not shipped with the OS installation disc, it seems that I have to make a recovery disk.  I read that for these to work, the drive that you get should be of equal size or larger than the original drive.

I'm near the top of the proverbial Creek on that?  I can't imagine that HP would limit it like that.  No way I can afford a 300 GB HDD anyway!  Is it possible to install the OS I paid on my new drive?

Thanks for all the help.  Enjoy your week.

-Matt

Laptop recovery disks does not require the same hard drive (size), however, there may be minimum hard disk size requirement.

Why not do a set of recovery discs anyway (might be useful in case of any problem hard drive). Replace the hardware with the new SSD and try the system with the disk recovery? Keep the original for a while hard disk, however, may use it as the 2nd drive.

  • How to install Win 7 on a SSD in Satellite U500?

    Hello

I had good results with SSDS in my desktop PC (both Win XP) has decided to ride one in my laptop U500 who has Win 7/64. The original HARD drive still works very well so I saved an image on a big USB and burned a DVD of recovery.

With the SSD installed and connected USB key, the image is on the USB drive. I get prompted to recreate the image and select 'Yes', then I get the message "the restore system image failed. No disk that can be used for the recovery of the system disk can be found. ». From here, it's downhill that, at the next prompt, the computer restarts.

If I come back to the process and consult the list excluded disks, the SSD is shown here, but is not checked (thus not excluded).

Only problem I could think of is the new SSD is 240 GB and the orginal HDD is 320GB but it is far from complete.

    Hello!

I want to change my HDD in Toshiba Portege R700 to SSD. How to install Windows 7 on this new SSD? I don't have any Windows installation disc.

Or that it will be possible to move the partition of the old HDD to new SSD (using Acronis, I could move the partition on the new HARD drive)?

I've heard of partition offset and this SSD block should be the same as FAT cluster (the same alignment).

All advice? (I know should I defragment my HARD drive before moving :))

    Hey Buddy,

    > I do not have any Windows installation disc.
Create the Toshiba recovery disc as mentioned in the manual of the user before you exchange the disc, then you have a Setup disk. The Toshiba recovery disc will restore parameters of the box with all the drivers and tools. It can be used on each disc and how many times you want.

After this change the drive and start the Toshiba recovery disc. Follow the instructions on the screen and everything will be installed.

    Check this box!

  • Install the EFI on new SSD partition when doing 10 costs of Windows Installer

I have a similar problem to this topic. Windows was originally (and still is) installed on my HARD drive and I just installed my SSD recently. When I did a clean install of Windows 10 on my new SSD it has not installed the EFI partition.

Is there a way to create a new partition on the SSD EFI (of course I have to do another new facility) or do I have to physically unplug my HARD drive before you begin?

my personal rule, I always disconnect a disk with a partition bootable OS, just to reduce the troubles and do not mix the boot managers (I prefer to select the BIOS boot device)

  • Upgrade of equipment and went from XP to Win7 - how do I transfer/install CS5 on the new SSD?

I've recently updated the workings of my computer; new mobo, Samsung SSD (solid state drive), CPU and ram. Continued XP Pro Windows 7 Pro with Win 7 Pro now residing on the new solid state drive. I still have the old 1 TB Serial ATA hard drive connected as a storage device, and that is CS5. But of course my CS5 applications are now unusable.

Can someone please give me some advice on how to transfer the old HD (XP Pro) CS5 installation for the new SSD (Win 7 Pro)? I started to do some research and reading on the first "off-setting" CS5, but I can't open any of my CS5 applications to 'disable '. So I'm puzzled. I am reluctant to try a new installation of my disks in CS5, until I learn the regular procedure...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Help, why no device after installing win 7 on new E5-411 showing?

Recently, I brought an E5 Aspire-411, in Thailand, with a Linpus Linux operating system. I installed my favorite OS Win7 x 64. I managed to install the hardware drivers. The strange thing is that there is no bluetooth device in Device Manager. Is this because (a) there is no adapter b/tooth on this model, (b) the adapter is defective, (c) I need to install a driver to activate or others? I took the things according to my limited knowledge, I hope someone can help to answer this question.

Ironfly, I solved the problem. The only way to do was install win 8.1 for evaluation. Now there are bluetooth devices where they should be in "Device Manager". And everything works a lot better than when I had win 7 there. I learned the hard way that the hardware and the latest drivers are not compatible with win 7, anyone trying to install on the model of victory 8 support will have no problems, things not working not properly or not at all. I hope this helps others, the time to move from win 7 I think, and hey 8.1 is not so bad really... Thanks again, cheers.

    (3) change the settings of the bios to Legacy Bios and disable secure boot.

    (4) stop and replace HD with an SSD.

    (5) install Windows 7

No comment on my approach to the installation?

I read, that I might need a storage driver to install 7

I have also read that since the laptop has an SSD hd and hiding

I'd be happy to simply be remove the small SSD of 32 GB and use other where

Last question, if I manage to install win7 should I ever want to sell your laptop

simply replace the original HD and SSD would win 8 reexecute.

I read that someone who tried, but a safety feature would fail to boot from the original HD?

    Thanks for any help...

    Hello:

I agree with your statements 1-5, with the amendment that there is only the W7 x 64 drivers for your laptop on its support page and driver, since HP only supports consumption patterns for the BONES of public windows into force at the time of the laptop (now Windows 8).

Therefore, based on the hardware in your PC, I recommend you to use the W7 x 64 drivers and software for this model instead.

DO NOT USE ALL DOWNLOADS OF BIOS OR FIRMWARE FROM THIS LINK

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?OS=4063&LC=en&cc=us&DLC=en&sw_lang=&product=5274535#N608

Now, I love the idea of installing on a separate HARD drive and returning the original disc if you want to sell the laptop, or simply go back to the use of W8.

I think that if you went into the BIOS and returns settings to their default values and close the notebook before reinstalling the original drive, it should work perfectly.

If you do not change the BIOS to their default settings before installing the original drive, I tend to accept that he cannot start.

You cannot change all settings for the storage controller BIOS in your laptop.

I think with the models with these caches ssd, is by default the RAID BIOS.

If you use a Windows 7 installation disc or an ISO file that does not have SP1 media refresh, then Yes, you probably have to load a sata driver.

Here's how to confirm that your speed controller is set to (AHCI or RAID).

The simple way to check if your laptop drive controller is set to AHCI or RAID (it will be one of the two), is to do the following.

To check if the drive is set to AHCI, go to Device Manager. Look at the categories of device.

If the laptop is AHCI, there will be a category of devices IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.  Click to expand this category and you will see the name of the controller sata which are listed there.  For the chipset of your model, you should see that an Intel (r) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller listed.

If your laptop drive controller is set to RAID, look further down the list of device category, and you'll see a category of storage controllers. Click to expand that, and if your laptop drive controller is set to RAID, you should see a controller Intel (r) Mobile Express Chipset SATA RAID.

Here is how you can determine which mode the inverter of your laptop SATA is configured for.

Here is the link to the sata drivers, you may need... You want to download the first file listed for W7 x 64

    https://downloadcenter.Intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&Keyword=Intel+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel+RST) & lang = fra

So here's how to install the driver...

Extract the files downloaded on a USB key.

With the flash player and the installation of W7 media connected to the computer, boot from the installation of W7 media.

After selecting the install now option, select the training - Advanced menu, Options and select the option load a driver.

You should now see the storage driver files listed.

If you check the box, it only includes the compatible driver.

Follow the prompts and should install W7.

  • Install Win 7 on new Machine

I can't get my product key to check that it is "authentic". I bought a Win 7 64 bit Ultimate on 12/02/2010. It was a Win 7 Upgrade product code and me $219.99 just for download and $15 for a CD mailed to me who have never raced. I can still see the history of transactions on the microsoft store and get the number series here, as well as re - download. My understanding is that I have to find my old copy of Win XP (unfortunately Impossible), install and then that you pass or it won't be authentic? That is regrettable. I see Windows 8 costs less ($200 vs. $219 by comparison) and that's a complete copy, not the upgrade. Wouldn't be the never seen for a representative sales unlock my key sort by phone? Or these things never happen? It seems reasonable to me. I will be pirate more early a copy of XP to upgrade, then spend $200 on Windows again when I have a copy of work on another hard drive. My new motherboard does not support the IDE, and so I couldn't keep this installation. Its boring seriousness that I can't use my copy of $220 for windows when I've in fact installed on obsolete hardware. Someone please tell me if I'm boned or if there is anything I can do without spending on a new copy. Thank you

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • INSTALL WIN 7 ON NEW HD

    Hello

I have a HP Elite E9240F underway with Win 7. I just realized that the HD is a 5400 RPM and I want to use a 7200 RPM. I'll replace it with a new drive of rotation of 7200 HD factory. Because I will not receive the actual Win 7 DVD exactly how I can go do a clean install on my rotation of 7200 RPM drive?

    Thank you.

Simply borrow a WIN7 cd or dl online. I was able to do a clean install. Use the sticker off the pc, and you will have to activate by phone. Make sure if you install the operating system exact same HP provided with. MS has loosened the horns a bit on that. Before that you need an OEM drive. With MS WIN7 allows you to use an oem/retail drive. As long as it's the same operating system.

  • Impossible to install El Capitan on new SSD

Trying to install El Capitan on using the method of USB drive on my mid 2012 13 "macbook pro (9.2) and I can't seem to make it work at all. Using a SSD 240 GB PNY CS1311. When it starts to install El Capitan I get about a minute before it stops and says "OS X can not be installed on your computer. Could not complete copy. I tried several times without a bit of luck, and from the start of my laptop for the first time with the SSD, I erased, then formatted with OS X Extended (journaled) and GUID, score card, so I know that it is properly formatted.

I managed to install OSX on my old HARD drive using the same USB so I don't really know if that is the question.

All the tips are greatly appreciated.

I try to get Internet (OPTION-COMMAND-R) and try to install the original OSX your MBP came with.  This at least will give you a functional MBP.  Retry installation El Capitan.

You will need a strong Internet connection.

  • Envy 15 t-j000: upgrade of 15 t-j000 to win 10 and new SSD at the same time

    Hello

My cell phone is 8 GB, 1 TB with the 24Go running Windows 8.1 MSSD.

I want to upgrade to 10 windows, but do not want to 'upgrade' this particular configuration.  What I would do is update my 16 GB ram and my HD to a 1 TB SSD.

    (1) upgrade to 16 GB means that I can't use the WSSD of 24 GB than anything more correct?  I guess if I upgrade the essential motivation for one SSD I more need for MSSD. Or is - that's a good idea to upgrade the WSSD to 32 GB then the swap file on a drive "distinct"?  (is this obsolete technology, old school board?)

    (2) is there a way to download Windows 10 and burn on a DVD or USB installation and then install "fresh" of without first upgrading my mechanical drive Windows 8.1?  The reason is, I'm a student, I can't have my laptop down for awhile so I can't afford a 1/100 chance I'm going to kill my laptop and Miss assignments.  I think if I start the upgrade and have problems, I can put the old drive, remove the extra memory and get until I can afford more downtime.

Anyway, any help on this is appreciated.  My computer works very well for being a 2 years, so if I can't do it a bit without pain, I'll go ahead and leave it as what.  Thanks for any idea you may have.

The clean install with Windows 10 will require that buy you it and the upgrade is free, updates and I did probably 15 to 20 of them, went virtually flawless for me. If you clone, just do a "sizing" of leave and small differences will be accrued.
