  I recently got a laptop HD malfunction cause me to start my PC from 2004. I bought a Belkin N150 Wireless USB adapter to connect to the internet connectivity. During the installation, I do not get a "Wireless network connection" icon I am running Windows XP SP3. I installed the same USB adapter on a computer running Windows XP SP2 and it works fine. I plugged it in my desktop PC and it just doesn't work! Even with my router disconnected I should still be able to see other networks WiFi available in the range (I live in a community of apartment) as he worked on the other computer it elsewhere too. I double checked the drivers, reboot the cable modem, so that appropriate services were activated and still no dice. I have read forums and I'm almost at the point of paying MS for technical support services, but it's really just my last step before I shell out money for professional help. Notice to lovers? =)

When I conect the adapter it detects but I go to the Device Manager and it shows as 'unknown' and with a yellow exclamation point. Most of you would say update the drivers, but I already have and they are drivers xp and ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it still does not work, please help if you can and thank you!

  You should try to uninstall and reinstall the adapter to do so follow the below mentioned steps.

  Remove the Linksys adapter and uninstall the Linksys software menu programs... Re - install drivers insert the CD of Linksys install in your CD-ROM drive, when the welcome is displayed click on exit, connect your USB adapter now... When the Hardware Update Wizard window appears, click on install the software automatically (recommended) and then click Next... Click Finish when the installation is complete.

  NOTE: The hardware installation screen may appear indicating that the adapter has failed the Windows Logo test. Ignore the window and click on continue to continue the installation because the adapter has been tested and it works with Windows XP. When Windows has finished installing the driver, click Finish.

  Click Start and go to control panel and double-click on network connections.   Are you sure that you have installed the right driver WLAN? As far as I know that Toshiba laptops are delivered with various wireless network cards. The Toshiba page also shows Atheros WLAN drivers then perhaps you have an Atheros card?

  In addition I would try reinstalling Windows using Toshiba recovery disc. There are all the drivers and tools pre-installed.
