Installation of El Capitan problems

I downloaded El Capitan and my 2011 iMac has a white/grey screen with only a cursor. The completion bar received roughly 85 to 90% and then it disappeared from the blank screen. I tried a hard reboot and got the same result. It worked for about 3 h. help!

Try to reset the PRAM by the instructions of resets of LANDAU and SMC Intel iMac and then see if it starts.

  • Installation of El Capitan problem: "an error occurred during the preparation of the installation. Try running the application again. »

    I've been a fight 2 days now trying to improve my iMac 21.5 2009 end of Mavericks in El Capitan, but as the installation is about to be launched I get this message "an error occurred during the preparation of the installation. Try running the application again".

    Here is a list of all the things I've tried:

    Running the application again;

    Move the installation to another folder application;

    Control date & time and it was already correct;

    Do the installation in safe mode;

    Installation of the upgrade of another user I created only for that purpose;

    The computer restarts and I tried install the upgrade several times;

    And, to be sure that the installation application was not corrupted I made a copy of it on an external HD and tried to install it on my 2011 MacBook Air and it worked (I didn't install because I have El Capitan installed on my MacBook).

    Well, I don't know what else can be done, and I'd rather not have to completely restore my iMac.

    Please try installing again after taking each of these steps you have already taken it.

    Step 1

    Reset the PRAM from your computer.

    Step 2

    If possible, set the clock system as indicated here. If you can only boot into recovery mode, see below.

    In the OS X Utilities screen, select get online help. Safari will launch. While in recovery, you will have no access to your bookmarks or history. Load this web page.

    Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select:

    date 0801000014

    Copy the selected text in the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination.

    Quit Safari. You go back to the OS X Utilities screen.

    Select

    Utilities ▹ Terminal

    in the menu bar. It will open a Terminal window. Paste in the window by pressing the command-V key combination.

    Wait for a new line ending with a dollar sign ($) below what you entered. If it does not appear, press return.

    Quit the Terminal to return to the main screen.

    Step 3

    If your model has replaceable memory by the user and you have upgraded modules of memory, reinstall the original memory and see if there is any improvement. Make sure not to touch the Gold contacts. Clean them with a mild solvent such as rubbing alcohol. Spare memory must exactly match the technical specifications of the machine. Do not install more memory to the maximum value specified, even if a seller of RAM, or someone else, said you that it will work.

    Step 4

    Back up the data at least two different storage devices, if you haven't done so already. A backup is not enough to be sure. Backups are possible with Time Machine or disk utility. Preferably both.

    Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all the data on the boot volume, if you be better be sure backups.

    If you are anywhere near an Apple Store, I would suggest bringing your MBP to and asking to help. For USB, you need to partition and format to allow to boot on a Mac, what Windows can not do. Then either create a bootable installer or install OS X on USB and then copy the installer it, boot from it and run the installer with the SSD as a target.

  • Installation of El Capitan on default of new SSD

    Hello

    I'm trying to upgrade my MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2012), install a new SSD and run the operating system on it.

    Here's what I did:

    I bought the 'OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6 G' with a cube of data. I removed my optical drive; installed my old HD (running the operating system) in the data Doubler; and install the new SSD in the main Bay.

    I downloaded El Capitan of the 'App Store' and then used «DiskMaker X 5 "to make a bootable usb key.»

    Restarted my computer laptop and booted from USB and the installation of El Capitan. From there, I formatted the new SSD (Mac OS extended (journaled) with a single partition GUID).

    After running down the clock of the installation (about 5 minutes), I get the message "an error occurred during the preparation of the installation. Try to rerun this application".

    Without having to restart the mac, if I try to install the OS again, I'm not able to find the SSD.

    If I restart the laptop and start in the OS on my old HD, I'll find the SSD here on my desk. (Sometimes it take a couple of reboots for my Mac see the SSD).

    And then I try all this again, with the same results.

    I tried other things:

    Reset the PRAM.

    Manual clock setting in the Terminal since the installation of punt. (Although it was not bad in the first place)

    I also tried to set the clock to AST (Arabia standard time) as I live in Saudi Arabia.

    Other than my SSD is defective, any ideas on what can I do to solve this problem?

    Hi Blackcells:

    I guess that you entered in "System Preferences" > "Startup disk" and set to your original drive data Doubler.

    Try to remove your new SSD and put it in an external case OWC external box or using a USB to SATA adapter SATA USB adapter and connect it to your MBP via USB.

    Open disk utility > delete and format the SSD for Mac OS extended (journaled) and a GUID partition.

    Then, use a third party application like Carbon Copy Cloner Carbon Copy Cloner (not free, but worth the price) or Super Duper to copy all data from the HARD drive internal as well as the recovery partition.

    The clone will be an exact copy of your hard drive and it will be bootable.

    Start the MBP with the OPTION key and select the new SSD.

    If it starts the MBP, proceed to the physical interchange of disks.

    Please help as I am now hung the message not found "Login" keychain... then reappear.

    Okay, so you didn't get very far in the installation.

    Here's how to reset a forgotten password.

    Do you have a backup before the upgrade, such as a time Machine backup?   (Keychain is not containing the administrative password, unfortunately.)   You remove the login keychain, all stored passwords in Safari and in fact be lost.)   If you have, I would recover the set of connection from there.

    If you don't have a current backup, it's the first think you get.

    There could be a problem with the disk or of protection structure, or with the disc itself.    Creating a new keychain cannot be blocked, short error permissions or a drive problem.    Disk utility and check the drive and see if there is something to do.   (Unfortunately, some of these steps require an administrative password.)   You can try the repairs or a backup to disk by booting from the recovery partition - that won't require no administrative privileges - and attempt a repair or recovery from here, or save the entire drive disk external work.

    You have another Mac around, where certain tools can be generated and can then be used here?

  • HP Officejet 6500: Cannot find HP 6500 since the installation of El Capitan

    My printer has stopped working after the installation of El Capitan. Each print job replied that the printer was not available. I have reset the printer system and tried to reinstall. A scan of the network reveals the 6500 fax option, but not the printer. So I installed from the IP address. It worked for exactly a print job. Now he just repeat that the printer is not available.

    As I said, I have reset the printer system. I rebooted the computer to a dozen times.

    Printer is on and online. Works with portable computer Windows, Android Tablet and iPad. Even the works of this computer (Mac Mini), when I run 10 Windows through Boot Camp, but now when I'm on Mac OS.

    I searched for advice, but have not found anyone else with this problem on this printer. I already tried the standard solutions. Someone has a nonstandard solution, can I try? I can't really afford a new printer and moving to a wired connectioin isn't an option anymore.

    Hi @jude525,

    I understand that you did a lot of troubleshooting and your Mac can't always see your 6500.

    We will try the rattling of the printer and test connection, click on the link below:

    Please also try the following and let me know the results of your efforts:

    1. Create a new user account, this will help determine if the problem is limited to your current user's profile.
    2. Printing the printer built-in Web server (EWS), this allows to bypass the cups and check that the problem is indeed related to the computer. If you can print from the Mac via the integrated Web server, the question must be associated OS

    I look forward to hearing from you and to work toward a solution. Thank you.

  • A procedure has been asked to do a new installation of El Capitan on a newly installed ssd.

    Where do you download El Capitan and Diskmaker-X, to make a bootable USB and install El Capitan? Do download you both in your downloads folder, insert a blank USB key and run diskmaker and this puts a bootable copy of El Capitan on the USB key? Or you copy both on the USB and run diskmaker-X.  I need some details please?

    You download DiskMaker X in your file downloads, the full installer of El Capitan in the Applications folder and you run DiskMaker X.

  • Modem remains on after the installation of El Capitan

    Hi all

    Since the installation of El Capitan, my modem seeing 'Link' continues to blink (yellow) after that my mac is asleep or off. It flashes green when my mac is active and has been turned off when it is idle. Is this a new normal and is it bad for the modem?

    I suggest do you a hard restart of the modem - see if the old behavior back.

  • Do not click then that would start in a player flash for a clean installation of El Capitan.

    Bootable media created on a flash drive to do a clean installation of El Capitan on my MBP to Mid 2009. Once I'm booted up in the newly created disk, I can't click on anything in the public services. Chaotic strikes me disk utility, but clicking on does not. I can arrow up to my HD, but unable to select erase. To be clear, I CAN click around in disk utility when I'm booted up 'normally' in my HD. But when I restart, press the alt/option key and select the flash drive, I created for the new facility, click on in order to continue this process is not an option.

    First aid post ever. Hope that plays by the rules. Thank you very much!

    It's very strange behavier. Have you tried to clean your trackpad? Have you tried a wired mouse?

    Before you click to install flash player, the mouse was sensitive to other options?

  • My 2 TB TC is full and will not back up. Yet, I have only 1 TB of data on my laptop. Note that I've reformatted the laptop since the last backup with a clean installation of El Capitan.

    My 2 TB Time Capsule is full and will not save. Yet, I have only 1 TB of data on my laptop. Note that I've reformatted the laptop since the last backup with a clean installation of El Capitan.

    I bought a 2 TB external hard and have used Time Machine to back up. But I also use my time Capsule, which I save wireless.

    Any suggestions on getting my TC back up?

    One suggestion would be to copy all existing backups that are now on the Time Capsule 2 TB hard disk. Then, clear the TC and start over again with new backups.

    A more expensive option... assuming you want to keep all old backups on the TC... would be to add a new TC and start backups goes in this direction.

    Another option... If you do not need to keep all old backups now on the TC... would be to erase the TC and start over again with new backups. The benefit of doing this would be that no new material will be necessary, but the downside would be that you lose your old backup history.

  • I accidentally deleted iPhotos after installation of El Capitan and were not able to download or reinstall.

    I accidentally deleted the iPhoto app on my new mac after installation of El Capitan and are not available for download, except the updates, which obviously doesn't work. How can I get that back?

    You can probably not - most likely, you will need to switch to Photos (what would happen sooner or later anyway)

    Have you looked under purchases in the app store?  Can't update iPhoto because it is not available in the App Store

    If it is not there you can try reinstalling iPhoto 11 of the original source and the upgrade to 9.6.1 but I doubt it will work

    Or you can try to restore your backup from just before you shape did this error

    Good luck
