Installation of fedora Linux next to my window 7 (dual boot)

Hello

I am facing a problem while installing fedora on my computer windows laptop Z580 7.

I had narrowed the C drive to get 100 GB of free unallocated space where I could install the linux os.but when installing, I am confronted to error: ERROR of PARTITIONING "could not allocate requested partitions: not enough free space on disk.»

After going to some forums, I discovered the issue could be with limitation of the disk partition hard drive that is 4.

computer laptop lenovo already have 4 partitions additional partitions.and for / and / home etc for linux, this problem occurs.

Please advice me how I can solve this problem.

Thank you

What happens if I also remove the disk tool from lenovo (of course after a backup of DVD) and merge it with the C drive. This primary transmission of woud do it3 and I can then install linux?

Hi all

Thanks for the responces.

I was able to install fedora 17 next to my win7 os.

I had to remove the drive Lenovo (with installation for the drivers files) after a backup of DVD.

However, these two days has been very difficult... and had a bad experience.

I changed the configuration of grub and installed nvidia package(was_just_experimenting_ _ ).after, I did the restart.it just won't enter the linux system. Although Win 7 was very good.

I am frustrated, lil being a novice and decided to reinstall linux by replacing the old linux.

Yet once the curse of maximum 4 primary partition now comes in picture, whenver I tried using USB or Live CD

He would show me errors. Then I felt that I had to delete the Win disk linux partition manager... thought tool.but. Overrride grub on the MBR could be a problem when I would have started to get into Win7, because he would have got deleted as well with the linux partition. I went to EasyBCD and used an option (I have no idea if it works or not. took the risk) and run the possibility of placing the win vista/7 start files on the MBR, (thinking that he could remove the replacement of GRUB).

Then I rebooted and BAM. I was lost as soon as I saw the message failed to initialize. (I have no bootable Win7)

But sometimes the rescue... A key recovery saved me in 15 minutes, he did recovery .and I could retrieve the settings to factory default, althogh I lost a part of the very important files.

Then, I deleted the disk Win Manager linux partition and reinstalled again.

now, the two systems operate correctly.

Conclusion: 1 Linux can not be installed in a system with 4 primary partition already existing (I could be wrong here)

2. its safe to remove drive lenovo (containing the driver set up files), once you have the back upward.

3. you must avoid changing any configuration for grub bootloader (unless you are an expert)

4. for my case, normal Live CD has failed. I had to create a live USB (way fedora live usb creator) and I had to

delete files with the extension .efi (a person of some fedora forum suggested do), until I booted from it.

She's the one

Thank you

Hello. I have read other responses to this problem of the addition of Windows XP (as a dual boot) but it still doesn't work. My laptop (I bought a few days ago) comes with Vista, and I bought Windows XP Home Edition - OEM. I got the intel matrix storage manager on a floppy USB drive, but now it gives a message "the txtsetup.oem file is not found." I have XP because it turns out that my work WHAT VPN does not work under Vista (I found that out AFTER I bought the computer unfortunately).

Can you please tell me what I should do next to get this working? And any other surprises I might encounter? I looked around the internet but cannot find the answers to this. I tried nlite, but have not managed to get this working but either.

    Thank you.

    Hello

There are different reasons why you can not install Win XO on the U300.

First use the right Manager, Intel Matrix Storage Manager?
Laptop you seems to support the Intel GM965 + Intel ICH8M chipset!

    Please check this thread!
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=26040

The user Markus77 has listed the details!

Also please don't format the HARD drive or create any installation AFTER the partitions of the Intel Matrix Storage manager. This would remove the driver already installed.

  • Cannot remove Windows XP Dual Boot with Windows 7 (partition logic-bootable) (main System Partition)

When I put XP and 7 dual boot I them created on a drive with 2 partitions.  I don't have Windows XP and need space for windows 7 so I followed the instructions to remove it.  I used the Windows 7 disc in repair mode via Diskpart to delete the XP partition and (after release) change the master boot record to Windows 7 using Bootrec/fixmbr and /fixboot.  I then tried to activate Windows 7 new in Diskpart but received the error message:

The VIRTUAL DISK SERVICE ERROR - the specified partition is invalid for this operation.

It's because I had configured Windows 7 in an extended as a logical disk partition.

I had to restore from the image I had taken and copy backup my data files.  However this left me with the following configuration:

    Primary partition

C: Windows XP - local disk, system, Page File Active, primary

    Extended partition

G: Windows 7 - Local, Boot, Crash Dump, logical disk

D: programs - Local, logical disk

Files - Local, logical disk E:

Photos - Local, logical disk F:

I have EaseUS Partition Master which apparently allows me to convert drive G of elementary logic.  However he would not only because it is noted as boot drive.

How to convert G to a logical disk in a primary partition so that I can activate it?

Start Windows 7, and format the partition ON THAT XP is installed. (This assumes that XP is on the 1st partition)

Since the Windows 7 bootloader (BCD store was on the XP partition) you will need for this restore on Windows 7

    partition.

Restart your computer with the Windows 7 DVD in the CD/DVD drive. Wait for Windows Start (this may take a while if you)

For a tripple boot computer, after that XP has been removed you will see the number 2 (the 2 other Windows 7/Vista

    facilities)

If you see a prompt "Facility add to the startup list?", enter Y (Yes) for each installation.

Remove the Windows 7 DVD. Close the command prompt window, and then click "Restart" to reboot the PC.

Reboot and XP should have disappeared.

  • Windows 8 dual-boot on a 520-1100

I released up to 250 GB on my new 520-1100, received the key of Windows 8 and then booted from the DVD of Windows 8 pre-release to have the installation procedure to tell me that I can not install windows 8 because ""the selected disk is a partition MBR. table. On EFI systems, Windows cannot be installed on GPT disks. »

How to dual-boot system in Windows 8? Can I turn off EFI somehow? What should I back up all partitions, reformat the hard drive 2 TB as TPG (and which tools to use to do), then restore all partitions?

So, it's extremely annoying, I bought a touchscreen specifically for the development of Windows 8.

    Thank you

    Thought of it myself.

Press F10 when you start the system, and you get to the configuration of the computer. Under storage-> boot order, you will see there are 2 sections; UEFI devices and material. UEFI devices are USB and the Blu - Ray player and legacy devices are the Blu - Ray player (again) and the hard drive.

Arrow down to the blu - ray under the section of the UEFI drive and press F5 to turn it off. He is still active in the legacy section and always ahead of the SATA drive.

Restart your system and press a key to start from the Windows 8 install disc and install Windows 8 on the partition that you released the hard disk.

I assume that Windows detects the drive Blu - Ray as being UEFI then it assumes that everything else is too.

Windows 8 works fine and everything but the touch screen works the first time. I guess HP are working to get the driver for it developed and out so once that happens, I'll be good to go.

    See you soon.

  • Strange problem with Windows Vista / & Dual Boot of Win 7, Vista is there, but is not...

I have sucessfully partioned primary SATA drive in my old Dell XPS desktop computer for 1 year so I could dual-boot between Visat & Win 7, but that the process be re-sizing / partitioning, or installing Windows 7 posed problem with dual booting (MBR) which I was able to fix via the process of startup repair & recovery.

Unfortunately, when I try to boot into Vista from the Boot Manager screen, I can get as far as the Welcome screen and then the screen turns white.  At some point, I think I saw an error message referring to a bad or Rundll file missing (I think it is)

However, if the blank screen, I can do a Ctrl-alt-del and bring up the options menu to lock the computer, switch users, log, change password or start the Task Manager.  When I select the Task Manager, I see several Services & processes running.  It seems that Vista is running, but I can't do it...

If I select log-off, I get the newspaper colorful off the screen.

    Any idea?

Should I continue with the process of startup repair & recover?  I don't think the fix bootrec applies more, correct?   In addition, I unfortunately do not have the CD original Vista because it is a Dell system with all the stuff of recovery on the hard drive... (GRRRR!  ) which I think is a no recovery before I changed them were leaving...

    Thank you!

Try this for Vista startup repair:

Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

  • for windows xp Dual boot problem

I have double system installed in my PC, i.e windows xp and Windows 7. After a while my windows xp was corrupted and I installed the new copy of the installation of XP.after windows, the computer asks me for what operating system to start... It starts only windows XP.can someone say now if I use windows 7 now?

    Hello Sumit Diallo,

After reading the process you went through, it seems that the only problem is that the reinstalled Windows XP has no knowledge of installed Windows 7.

In other words, whe Windows XP has been installed, it replaced the BCD.

Original title: replacement of the Windows XP boot manager.

    Hello

A few days ago, I installed Windows Embedded Standard on a PC that already had Windows XP on it. But (Windows Embedded) has been installed with a lot of system files missing (Task Manager, System Configuration and even the application to activate Windows was absent).

The Windows boot manager that came with Windows Embedded could not be successful because I could not access "msconfig". It doesn't even have a "repair" advanced option.

"Windows Embedded would be useless in 30 days, so I formatted the disc that contains the" management of the computer "in Windows XP.

But Windows Boot Manager Embedded stayed with Windows Embedded as one of the options (Option low said "Earlier Version of Windows". This driver for the Windows XP boot manager).

Is there a way I can get rid of him?

    Thank you

    DOM

    Hi Dom,

Did you uninstall normal Windows XP or Windows Embedded Standard?

If you have removed Windows Embedded and normal Windows XP still installed, you can use FIXMBR and FIXBOOT from the Recovery Console to restore the boot loader.

For more information, please visit this link: Description of the recovery Windows XP for power users Console

If you have removed the normal Windows XP and Windows Embedded, you can ask your question in the MSDN forums for assistance.

  • Dual-boot Windows and Linux, but Linux has calendar, TB 31.0

I'm using Linux Mint and Windows 7 dual-boot. I have TB 31.0 installed on each operating system. TB Linux has a capacity of calendar; in Windows, there is nothing (by nothing, I mean no calendars - I can't see their properties, for example, access somehow).

I should add that Windows and Linux TB programs share the same profile folder (located on a separate partition), therefore, all of the same modules, passwords, etc.

The error console records the following:

There are a variety of flow on the errors related to this.

My apologies for posting this in this way; I intend to submit this via the crashreporter, but I can't get the program crash with this error earlier.

An answer to my own question: it turns out that, while sharing a profile works quite well for most of the cases, with lightning, he does not, like the extension has different versions of Linux and Windows. The problem is solved very simply: by not using is not the same profile for each version.

Glad to see that no one takes on this one (except me, of course).
