Start another computer on the network when it is in "standby"

I would like to have a computer on our network to wake up another computer that is in sleep when the first computer tries to access files shared asleep computer. Is this possible?

It is possible, but it is quite an advanced task.  If I understand correctly, it requires that computers be using network LAN cables, no wifi.

A limited intro is available here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/What-are-Wake-on-LAN-capabilities

But basically, it varies widely depending on your hardware, the system chipset and network equipment.

    It is possible to write a text file from a computer on the network to another computer on the network through labview without using FTP?

    Hi bebo_lm,

    It depends on how they are connected. If you have a 'normal' access to the pc and you can write on a hard drive of the other computer, you can use the writing functions of files or the copy of the file. If they are not connected like this, then you need another service. Why you do not use FTP?

  • How to backup to a folder password protected, located on another computer on the network?

    Hello

    My OS is Windows 7 Professional. I have configured windows backup back up some of my files on a network share on a daily basis. There are people other than me who have administrator privileges on the computer on the network where my backup is stored. My problem is to password protect the share network folder as windows backup on it my computer can be done automatically. The computer where the backup is stored is a machine to windows server 2008.

    Any ideas or suggestions?

    Run the task as a backup operator, add yourself as a member of the backup operators group.  You can do this with the console "Users and groups", to open the console type lusrmgr.msc in the box run from the start menu.

  • error message says "another computer on the network has the same IP address.

    can interfere with my internet connection.  How can I fix this (plain English please.  "I'm not a COMPUTER expert.)

    This means that you have two devices with the same IP address on your network. It simply means that two machines are configured with the same IP address (you have a PS3, XBox360, another computer/laptop?).

    Each device needs a unique IP address works properly on a network. A reboot will usually solve the problem, unless both devices have their IP address a static address.

    Here's how you check/change it (Windows XP):

    1. click on START > network and Internet > network connections.
    2. double-click on your connection LAN or Internet.
    3. click on properties.
    4. click on the general tab.
    5. Select Protocol Internet (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.
    6. click on the general tab.
    7. select Obtain IP address automatically and DNS server automatically get an address.
    8 OK on all windows and when you are back on the desktop, restart your system.

    Please, anyone can help as I don't know what to do? I am running Vista to the Windows Welcome page
    I am the administrator and I have no other computers attached to my laptop?
    I use the same USB port to connect to internet, but recently, I had to try another USB port I get the above error message.
    I have no idea how to do to correct the situation and would appreciate guidance step by step.
    Thank you.

    Hi RDCICON,

    1. which device you are connected to the USB port?

    2. you still get the same message when you connect the usb device or use the device on another computer?

    Method 1:

    You can try to run the tool built into Vista Network Diagnostics. To do this, click Start, go to network and select network share.

    On the left side of the window select the diagnosis and repair.
    It should help to find which device is listed with the duplicate IP address.

    Method 2: Release and renew the IP address by following these steps.

    a. Click Start. Click Run, type cmd, press ENTER.

    b. at the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER

    ipconfig/release

    ipconfig / renew

    Method 3:

    Check and confirm the DHCP client service is started and set to automatic.

    If the DHCP client service is not running, then set it to autostart. Steps to set the auto service:

    a. click the Start button

    b. type services.msc in the search box.

    c. search for DHCP client and set it to automatic and make sure that it is started.

    Method 4:

    Reset the router and see if the problem persists.

    You can refer to the 3mentioned of general troubleshooting method in the following article to reset the router.

  • We have Adobe Acrobat Pro DC loaded on a computer, and I want to share with another computer over the network.  Must I pay $ 120 to get the serial number?

    Is it really necessary to pay for another FULL of Adobe Acrobat Pro DC version so it can be used on another computer?   Even if we are on a network.

    As far as I know, Adobe programs are not running on a network... If you have computers A and B, and the program is on A, it cannot be run on B on the network, it must be installed on B to work

  • How to import bookmarks from another computer on the network?

    I have an old computer that has firefox on it with a large number of bookmarks. I want to import the bookmarks into this new computer on my home network. How can I do this? It would also be useful if in the course of the transfer bookmarks would get in alphabetical order.

    You can export to HTML bookmarks in the Bookmarks window. It's now called "show all bookmarks". The last button on the toolbar in the window is the one that you are using and choose export. You can then save the bookmarks in HTML whenever you want. With the new computer, use the same toolbar button and choose Import and import the HTML file.

  • How can I connect to my database externally from another pc on the network?

    Hi all

    I just install 12 c on my Oracle Linux box and I am able to connect locally to the database, as intended. Now, what would be the first step to connect to my external database from another computer on the network. By example, if the database server is 10.0.0.150 and I want to connect to 10.0.0.151 how can I make this happen? If necessary here are a few references:

    -bash-4, $ 2 cat listener.ora

    listener.ora # Network Configuration file: /ora01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/db_1/network/admin/listener.ora

    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oranode1.dba.com) (PORT = 1521))

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = CIP)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))

    )

    )

    -bash-4, $ 2 cat tnsnames.ora

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (CONNECT_DATA =

    (SERVER = DEDICATED)

    (SERVICE_NAME = anthonydb)

    )

    )

    -bash-4, $ 2 cat/etc/hosts

    127.0.0.1 oranode1 oranode1.dba.com localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4

    : 1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6

    10.0.0.150 oranode1.dba.com oranode1

    Let me know if you need any information. Currently, I am not able to connect to my database using the IP and port (10.0.0.150, 1521) of my 10.0.0.151 pc. Thank you all for your help in advance.

    Hello EdStevens,

    I tried to use the SID with SID = anthonydb and I got the same error message. I believe that we must resolve before listener troubleshoot us this error...  If we look at the file of the listener:

    [oracle@oranode1 admin] $ cat listener.ora

    listener.ora # Network Configuration file: /ora01/app/oracle/product/12.1.0/db_1/network/admin/listener.ora

    # Generated by Oracle configuration tools.

    LISTENER =

    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oranode1.dba.com) (PORT = 1521))

    )

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 10.0.0.150)(PORT = 1521))

    )

    )

    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = / ora01/app/oracle

    I have two entries, and I think that I should remove the last entry:

    (DESCRIPTION =

    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 10.0.0.150)(PORT = 1521))

    )

    I created a backup of the file listener and I'm going to give it a shot.
