  • Connect to SQL Server using Windows authentication

Allows us to connect to the SQLServer database via dblink using authentication SQL Server (Oracle 10 g DB on Windows server) HS, sqlserver db is moved to a new server and there it is configured to use Windows authentication only. Is it possible to use the dblink/HS with Windows authentication on the side of SQLServer? Oracle support answer is no, but I thought I'd ask around...

Gateway for ODBC 10 g or 11g is supported only with SQL Server, not Windows authentication authentication.

If your SQL Server is configured only for authentication on Windows, you have no other way to change the configuration of the SQL Server to support mixed Mode (Windows authentication and SQL Server authentication).

  • Access to SQL Server on Windows Server 2008 guest of Windows 7 comments

I am to evaluate VMWare workstation, and so far it looks pretty nice.  However, I cannot access SQL Server and hope someone can help out me.  Here is my configuration:

-Windows SBS 2003 Standard physical server acting as my domain controller

-Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit physical acting as my host

-Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit comments development machine that needs to access SQL Server

-Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise with SQL Server 2008 R2 Developer comments

I connect on all computers with the same domain account that is a local and domain admin on all machines.  I use the same connection of brideged to the network adapter that connects to my domain name on the two guest computers.  The Guest Windows 7 can see files in actions on Win2008 guest.  However, in sending SMS on reviews of Win7, I can't connect to the instance of SQL Server on the guest Win2008.  I tried to disable the firewall on the Win7 host and guest Win2008 and it does not help (I tried initially just add the exceptions recommended Win2008 firewall but does so as a test, I have completely disabled the firewall, but still no dice).  Since the guest of Win7 can see the actions on the guest Win2008 I know there is some sort of communication here, but something is missing for SQL Server.

    Thank you.

If you have connectivity between VM then basic network isn't really a matter of VMware itself.

I had Google troubleshoot the connection to SQL Server 2008 or have a look at measures to resolve SQL connectivity issues.

    Hello Sisi reddi, welcome.

You can try a solution that worked before on S2k3.  Try this on affected systems:

3 copy and paste the following text in Notepad:

    LETTER
    CD %windir%\system32\wbem
    Mofcomp.exe cimwin32.mof
    Regsvr32 /s wbemupgd.dll
    Regsvr32 /s wbemsvc.dll
    Wmiprvse/regserver

    4. click on file > save as
    5. change the drop-down list (file type) to "all files".
    6. name the file sqlfix.bat, and then save it to your desktop
    7. from there, right-click on the file and choose "Run as Administrator". If it works that way, you can also open it WITHOUT choosing run as administrator and see what happens.

  • New installation of SQL Server, disable the write cache?

Hello, I'm under ESXi 5.1 and I need to configure a virtual machine Windows server 2012 for our first virtual SQL Server.  My database guy tells me that I have to disable the cache write for SQL best practices.  Is it always true when it is a virtual machine?  If it is true where would I turn it off?  To add a bit more info about our storage on a network SAN Dell EqualLogic and we will use SQL 2008 as SQL 2012 is not yet supported.  Thanks for the help!

I think that your SQL guy assumes the ESXi host will be caching on its own transparent for the VM by default. This is incorrect, ESXi does nothing like that.

The only place where caching of write i/o can happen is on the side of physical storage outside ESXi, so in your case the SAN controllers (no reason not to have this license here too long as it is on battery/flash) or the discs themselves (ugh, it is never enabled by default for a good reason).

BTW: I'm pretty sure that SQL 2008 is not supported on Server 2012.

  • Installation of SQL Server for the virtual Center Server

    Hi all

We bought 16 x 2 for ESX server CPU licenses.  So, I will prepare a database of virtual server of the Management Center 16 guests. As SQL Server 2005 Express is installed during installation of Virtual Center Server but VMware is recommended for use only for 5 guests.

So I would like to prepare a database of SQL for VC server, please help me how to make the database to the virtual Center Server. Are there special tables, configuration, permissions. I have no experience with databases then how should I go with it. Is there a guide for it. The ESX Server installation guide explains only create ODBC connections.

Please help me with this I would be very obliged.

I know that the procedure is restrited 2 steps (1 and 2) on page 68, but you need to install and configure SQL Server for your business standard (I guess asking the C: or D: and data/newspapers on E :). I'm not going to explain better how to install SQL Server on a server. For the SQL Server database:

    • Step 1: you create a database storing the files on the right disk (with at least 30 GB) with a default database size to the size defined by the "Calculator" (value of + 15% on the line of your choice statistical level).

    • Step 2: On your Microsoft SQL Server, create a user of SQL Server database with the database rights of operator (DBO). The default database for the DBO User is that you defined in step 1. Make sure the database user has a role of sysadmin server or the role of database db_ownerfixed on the VirtualCenter database and the MSDB database. The role db_owner on the MSDB database is required for the installation and upgradeonly. This role can be removed after installation or upgrade process iscompleted.

The user must be created for your standard business as service account (password never expires) with a long and complex password.

Other steps in the document are for the ODBC connection.

Creating the tables is made during the installation of VC. Nothing to do. A characteristic is not to stop the SQL Server agent because some tasks are scheduled in the database to 'compact' statistics.

For the record, the database is upgraded when installing patches VC creating of new tables, updating of data type or...

  • How to set up a link ODBC Oracle's x 64 to SQL Server on Windows?

    Hello
I am running an instance of Oracle 10 g 2 x 64 on Windows Server 2003 x 64 which needs to extract data from a SQL Server 2005 which must be x 86 but I had the opportunity to test it in a x 86 and x 64 environment.
I created ODBC links on my Oracle server with the x 64 and x 86 ODBC Administrator and they work very well (with the SQL Server driver included in Windows).
I configured an init + SID .ora and edit the tnsnames.ora and listener.ora as you can see below. Then I rebooted the listener and the show of status that everything works as expected. If I have tnsping iondb+ the result is: OK (20 ms) .
I created a link DB: create iondb link of database to connect to sql_server_user identified by sql_server_password using "iondb."
And this is the error message when I try to select a table or a view, I received:

ORA-28545: error diagnosed by Net8 when connecting to an agent
Cannot retrieve the text of the message NETWORK/NCR 65535
    ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines IONDB

Did anyone had this error before or have any idea how to solve this problem? If not, I'll try the same solution I've done with my MS Access Database (see this post: between Oracle 10 g x 64 and Ms Access ODBC connection )

    Thank you

It seems that Oracle x 64 does not support linking ODBC to SQL Server... too bad.
HS is not supported on x 64. It took quite sometimes to find the information.

Published by: APQ on December 2, 2008 10:55

    Hello

HSODBC is not supported on Windows x 64. That's why you get the error ORA-28545
What you can do is to install DG4ODBC 11 g on a 32-bit computer.
DG4ODBC can be separately installed Oracle, for example on the SQL SERVER server if you can.
But it is only supported in 32 bit, too.
You can download on this site:
    http://www.Oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/Oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html
    ==> Oracle Database gateways 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)

The last option would be to create a virtual machine on your X 64 machine with a 32-bit Windows and DG4ODBC 11 g.

Please let me know if you have any question.
    Kind regards
