installation of the service pack blocking xp

I received 'configuration error - code purple' and required to perform a system recovery.
Restarted with XP SP1... downloaded SP2, but after the installation system crashes and can recover only back up to SP1.
I also need to go to Safe Mode to regain possession of the program file.

The executable creates a registry key on the computer on which it is run that blocks or unlocks (according to the used command line option) the provision of a Service Pack to that computer through Windows Update. The key used is HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate.

When the ' / ' B is used to command line option, the name of the value of the key 'DoNotAllowSP' is created and its value to 1. This value blocks delivery of a Service Pack to the computer through automatic updates or Windows Update.

When the ' / U' command line option is used, the previously created registry value that temporarily blocked the delivery of a Service Pack to the computer through automatic updates or Windows Update is removed. If the value does not exist on the computer on which it is running, no action is taken.

  • Installation of the Service Pack

I had a problem, try to install the service pack. My computer is now locked in constant reboot mode while displaying

"Service Pack did not install. Restoration of the changes. Do not turn off your computer". Then stops and restarts with the same message over and over again.

I tried to follow the instructions provided everywhere. But when I restart and hold down the F8 key so I can boot into safe mode, I tried selecting all security modes and I get the same results and I tried again by selecting the option 'Disable automatic reboot' which seems to be an option on the same page with the option of safe mode. I also tried F12 and F2. Nothing works, the same message of service pack arrives and I can never get to where I can see my desktop to click 'Start' to restore. I can't get out of this cycle. Please let me know what buttons I can press on to get into my computer.

    Hello

As you can not use Mode without failure as a way to do a system restore, try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft

Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.

Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.

    1. Overview of Windows Vista repair options
    2. How to perform an automatic repair of Windows Vista using Startup Repair

If you do not or can not borrow a Microsoft DVD there is a download of a file ISO of Vista Startup Repair available that you can put on a Bootable floppy to make the above startup repair and that the method is recommended by a large number of posters in these Forums.

Unfortunately, you have to buy it.

  • Revenant (installation of the Service Pack) Just restarts again and again

Recently tried to install SP2 from Windows Update.
Unfortunately, someone either shut down the computer during the installation or the laptop lost power etc.

Now, I get the message "service not installed pack - reverting" formidable again and again and again. The system keeps restarting itself! I tried the standard startup repair, and there is no system restore points.

I even tried a sfc/scannow, but it shows a repair operation is in progress, and I have to reboot first.

    Help?

Download the ISO on the provided link and do a repair of the disc.

Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

You can make a tool to restart system, System Restore, etc. with it.

Read all the info on the website on how to create and use it.

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

    ISO Burner: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

It's a very good Vista repair disc.

You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

There is not a disk of resettlement.

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Windows Vista Answers.

It seems after the installation of Service pack 2 for Vista, you get a message stating that the computer is installing Service pack 3 of 3 step, and it appears on every reboot start.

You can try to remove Service pack 2 from the computer and install the stand-alone version of Service pack 3.

To remove Service pack 2 access the link below and follow the steps:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/948537

To install the stand-alone package of Vista SP2, access the link below and download the file to the desktop. Later, run the installation of Service pack 2 from the office.

Try disabling the security software and install Service pack 2.

If the problem persists, please respond back with the details:
Was your computer pre installed with Service pack 1?
You have a security software on the computer?  If so, the name of manufacturer of security software.
You have the external devices connected to the computer during the update?

Hope that would help us solve the problem.

  • Installation of the service pack is never completed, also any recovery points

My computer is a Lenovo Thinkpad W500, running only the provider installed Windows Vista Ultimate Edition.

I tried to install service pack 2 on 27 May. Since then, whenever I stop the system indicates that it initializes the updates. Then when I restart the system I get the message 'Install Service Pack 2 - step 3 of 3-0% ' displays for some time, is never greater than 0%. Then the login screen appears. This cycle occurs whenever I have stop Vista and restart.

However, I can't tick rained updates, I thought, is underway. And I see no updates after May 27.

I tried to restore the system (I am logged as an administrator), but I get an error to run the system restore. The error code is 0 x 80070057, without any other explanation. So I booted safe mode. Here I can get into the system restore, but only two restore points are available: June 22 and June 23. Both are regular restorations. There is no other restore point, so I can't go back to May 26.

How can not to restore the hard drive to an older backup, I fix?

As I see that you can not install some of the update of Windows Ultimate extras and it freezes. I also note that you tried to run the computer in safe mode without graphical mode, now antivirus protection and firewall services are disabled. Sfc/scannow says he cannot correct errors.

Please let us know if you have defined the MSCONFIG back to normal startup? If it is not set to the Normal start, run MSCONFIG and set it to Normal startup and check if you are able to turn on services, Antivirus and firewall. You can also try running Sfc/scannow.
