Installation of Vista updates: unknown error, code: 80200024

Try to install 9 'important' updates, receive an error message, "Windows Update has encountered an unknown error." Error code is 80200024.

Edit: Sorry, I clicked on 'Vista' as the version of windows, but it displayed in the Windows 7 forums.  Apologies, please move etc.

Repost: (Another) a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (for example, a free trial version which is preinstalled when you bought it)?

No recently installed Avast? ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

My apologies, misread, none, Norton or McAfee have never been installed.  No, Avast is always installed.

EDIT: FIXED

Found the problem, BITS does not connect through a proxy server.  Server disabled, direct connection, updates normally function.  This should be filed as a bug report.

Solution: update does not work with a proxy server.

I tried several times to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and update .NET Framework family but keep receiving error Code 80073715. I am running Vista Home Premium on an a6426a of HP with 2 GB RAM and Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.20 GHz with 200 + GB freespace.

    Hi altantisau,

Thank you for using answers Forum.

The error means that the download of the update is the damaged or missing files.

I suggest that you download the manual installation file, activate your anti-virus temporarily turned off software and try the update in this way.

OK, I'm having problems with this error code for Windows Vista, I see that it is a topic for it for Windows 7, but I need help with this on Vista since it's head upward on the Windows Vista operating system. Hi Archanan,

Welcome to the Forum of answers Windows Vista.

    3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
    1. On the general tab, click Selective startup, and then clear the Load Startup items check box. (The box use the Boot file is not available.)
    2. On the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click disable all.

Note Following this step lets services Microsoft continue to run. These services include networking, Plug-and-Play, record of events, error reporting, and other services. If you disable these services, you can permanently delete all restore points. Do not do this if you want to use to restore the system with the existing restore points.

    3. Click OK, and then click restart.

After your computer restarts, try to install the updates.

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    1. Click Start , type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.
    1. On the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.
    2. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

  • Windows Update "Unknown error" Code: 8007371C for KB2207566 security update

I have Vista SP2, have had no problems installing updates before that point.

I tried to install this update several times and failed. I am trying to connect to the network at my University for which I need to have all updates installed, but this particular update (KB2207566) will not be installed. I tried installing the stand-alone version and have tried in safe mode, nothing works. I've heard that there may be a problem with incompatible antivirus software, but I don't know that I have that MS Essentials for the moment. I did a full scan using this program and removed all viruses we found, I scanned the drive for errors and none have been found, I used CheckSUR SFCScan, (I think that's what we called them) as they were recommended on another forum if nothing has changed since.

Any ideas what is the problem? I still have to do a repair of the system to see if that solves this problem, but I also think to buy Windows 7 and completely remove Vista from my PC, this will solve the situation also?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Cannot install 2 important updates - unknown error: Code 80070026 and Code 26

For months now, I have tried to run updates for Vista Windows, but I get these two error codes. I thought I might have a virus that my antivirus regularly had not taken, I went to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm and performed a full scan. There are several issues, but they have been resolved. However, I can not always install updates and I get the same error codes. Any help?

    Hi Sylvirblu,

Thank you for visiting Windows Vista Microsoft answers forum.

Please let us know about the updates are available for download and the failure with the error code 80070026.

I will suggest that you turn off the Antivirus software that is running on the computer and put the computer in a clean boot environment and then try to run the Windows updates, as in this case seems to be a conflict of third party software.

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps:

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If your problem is resolved, follow the procedure to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796
In addition, refer to the section on how to restore your computer to a Normal startup mode

Please let us know if it helps.

    Thank you and best regards,

  • Windows Update encountered an unknown error code 6b 7.

What is said for the most part.  I am running Vista Home Premium x 64 on a machine rather top of range (Q9550 processor, 16 GB DDR2-800 RAM, fast hard drives 1.5 TB each, etc.) -specs factory, not overclocking, or something like that.  When I try to install the updates, Windows meets an 'unknown error' (Code 6B 7).  It usually happens when he tried to update .NET - and that's why I can't use Windows Live Messenger or all the other Windows Live programs, in addition to a lot of third party programs.

I am really lost and don't know what to do.  I asked before and told to uninstall and reinstall all the old versions of the .NET, but also warned that the process was dangerous and could cause trouble.

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.  If you need more information, please ask and I will answer as best as possible.
