Installation of Windows xp/vista on hard disks blank

I have a dell latitude (e6400 with 2g ram) as the hard drive or the installation is corrupted (probably HD although HD model has a bad reputation). I'm looking into resurrecting it back to use, as its dormant for the last couple years. She will run a system image backup x 86 fine and android on a flash drive.

So I have 2 HD that I am looking for help. Can I use any hard drive as long as it has the right connector? I have to clean the drive using diskpart first?

It came with xp (business) and vista (32-bit business). I intend using the vista (aside from minor problems, vista is pretty good) as it will be connected to the internet and I do not really use older programs (have win 8.1 for this).

Hello

Why you would be a System Image if thye operating system is damaged or the HD does not?

Do you a clean install.

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-

  • Installation of Windows XP on a second disk hard SATA and booting from it.

    History:
I have a two year old computer and it becomes slow to start.  Its a P4 dual core 2.8GHz with 3 GB of RAM and a hard drive SATA 320 G, that left only 60 GB.  I tried to uncheck all unnecessary items at startup using msconfig, but its still quite slow.

    Proposed solution:
I bought a new HDD SATA of 500G and I thought performing a new installation of Windows XP on the new drive and boot from that.  I want to leave the old disk, as is if I can still access the programs and files that I have on this subject. That said, I will migrate probably all programs and regularly used files on the old drive on a new and let all my media files on the former.  I don't want to copy all just above (picture disc) because it will bring all the junk with her.

I backed up my important data to an external drive.

    Issues related to the:
Is there a problem to have windows XP on both drives?  Will I need to do anything to access my old programs on the start menu in a "new window" - what do I have to reinstall or can I just copy them into folder "program files" the new windows?  What is a reasonable way to speed up my machine?

Thank you very much for your answers.

You want to move the old SATA disk to controller 1 (although leave of you for now disconnect) and put the new drive on controller 0 and then install XP. Then set the old drive to the secondary SATA controller. You will need to install programs on the new drive; You may not copy or use the old disk. To stay in compliance with the EULA and activate the new XP successfully, you need to remove the old XP and just use the old disk to store data. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Qosmio G30 - upgrade to Windows 7 and better hard disks

    Hello world

That's what we all want, right...

I have a G30 - 182, Windows Vista 32-bit. An external HHD, DW 1 TB. Now 3 years and for some serious upgrade.

I love the G30's big screen and very nice, as a photographer, I find the graphics excellent and accurate. One of the drawbacks is the primary HHD speed I can say. Performance index Windows says 4.2 which is totally unacceptable in 2010.

    So what to do?

I just upgraded the RAM to 2 x 2 GB Kingston HyperX, which has given a huge boost. The specs are product code: KHX5300S2LLK2 / 4G DDR2 SDRAM, time 4-4-4-12, CL 4, 667 MHz, SO DIMM 200 pin, 1.8 V. The price is right, and I guess that's better than the RAM original Toshiba which is of older date. Of course, I encourage everyone to do the same.

So what's next. I think that an upgrade to Windows 7. I think there are so many guidelines in this forum, I expect a lot of trouble here.

But how about a couple of new HHDs? Can anyone advice me on this point, please.

I would like a bigger and faster HHDs maybe. It will be a good choice: 2 X Toshiba MK5055GSX - hard drive - 500 GB - serial SATA 300 - tranferrate 300 Mbps - buffer 8 MB in size.

-but then comes the installation, huh... I have no idea.

    Hey Buddy,

    > Performance index Windows says 4.2 which is totally unacceptable in 2010.
Who said that this index is totally unacceptable in 2010?
As far as I know the highest score you can get on Vista is 5.0 so I think that your result is good and is not a reason to do a hardware upgrade.
In addition these benchmarks aren't important. If I m happy with my laptop and it s fast enough for me, everything is ok and I don't need no reference results.

In any case, new 500 GB HDDs should be a bit faster because they have a higher density of the date. This means that everything can be loaded slightly faster.
I put t know the exact details of these drives but if you really want some fast hard disks, you should buy one with 7200 RPM. They produce heat a little more and need more power, but access time is lower than on 5400 RPM.

In the best cases, you buy an SSD for the OS, programs and a 500 GB model for your data/photos. That of the best performance gain.

Finally, and especially if you can get all the drivers and tools for Windows 7, you can check here:

  • Installation of Windows on a new hard drive

I have a computer I want to get a new, more large hard drive. The vehicle currently has Windows Vista installed on it and the hard drive still works, I just need more space. What should I do to install Windows on the new drive? I will use the installation disc that came with the computer. If I get out the old hard drive, install a new one, put Windows on the new, then format the old one? Basically, I want to avoid having Windows installed on two hard drives to work.

    Hello

the steps you have mentioned are correct:

take out the old hard disk - the new drive hard install - reinstall vista - old erase hard drive

You can then use a the old hard drive to backup your data

and read too much about the displacement of the full to avoid you operating system having to load data and programs again. but then you still wipe the old disk

It might make you save time and effort:

hard drive manufacturers will normally provide the cloning software to move your operating system installed from the old to the new hard disk

Search for information on this subject on their Web site

If you have vista business or ultimate, you can use the builtin vista complete PC Backup to move

    read the information below

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial145.html

or if you have vista home version you'll need 3rd party software

  • Question about upgrading windows and replacement of hard disk

I originally had windows 7 premium 64 bit and later upgraded using a product key anytime upgrade to windows 7 Professional.  I still have the two product keys for the premium and professional.

I want to replace my hard drive and upgrade to windows 10.

    What I asked:

I have upgraded to windows 10 first and somehow make a boot disk, replace my hard drive, and then use the disk on the new hard disk?

Can I get a disk to boot windows professional 7 some hand and use it on the new hard drive and then use the tool of a free upgrade?

Any suggestion would be great.  Thank you

You must first reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium, reactivate and then rerun the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional can make sure that it is turned on.

After which, you can download and install the free update for Windows 10.

Another option you have is to create an image of your current installation of Windows 7 Professional system and restore it on the new hard drive.

How to pass Windows 7 to a bigger hard drive - Notebooks.com

After the restoration of the image and adjust the layout of the partition, make sure that Windows is activated, then check Windows Update for the upgrade of Windows 10 or download manually:

    Retry the upgrade manually:

    Option 1:

    Download the media creation tool

Click with the right button on the MediaCreationTool.exe file and then click on run as administrator.

Note: How to check if you are downloaded or installed the update Windows 10 November

How to create an ISO or USB drive.

Select upgrade this PC now and then click Next

    Option 2:

    Task of pre-required

When you make significant changes to your computer for example updated operating system, you must always back up. See the links to resources on the backup by clicking the link for each version of Windows you are using: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1

    then

    then

    • Turn off (preferably uninstall) your Antivirus utility before you perform the upgrade.
    • Reboot several times, and then try again.
    • Disable the general USB peripherals (for example - smart card reader).
    • If you are using a SCSI drive, make sure you have the drivers available for your storage on a thumdrive device and it is connected. During the installation of Windows 10, click on the advanced custom Option and use the command load driver to load the driver for the SCSI drive. If this does not work and the installer still fails, consider switching to an IDE based hard drive.
    • Perform a clean boot, restart, and then try again.
    • If you upgrade to the. ISO file, disconnect from the Internet during the installation, if you are connected in LAN (Ethernet) or wireless, disable both, then try to install.
    • If you are updated through Windows Update, when download reaches 100% disconnect from the LAN (Ethernet) Internet or Wi - Fi, then proceed with the installation.
    • If this does not work, try using the. ISO file to upgrade if possible.
    • If you are connected to a domain, go to a local account.
    • If you have an external equipment, attached to the machine, unplug them (example, game controllers, USB sticks, external hard drive, printers, peripherals not essential).

What you see in the drive properties in Device Manager has to do with drivers and the drive configuration, not the real state 'physical' the reader.

First of all, I error side of caution and if sure you have a backup of all your personal files, data, music, photos, contacts, movies, etc., external media (favorite external hard drive).

Run the check disk (chkdsk); I suggest to run with two checked options, difficulty of file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

  • Windows 7 Pro repairs hard disk errors

My hard drive had errors and corrupt sectors.  I ran the tool to fix my hard drive and now need to repair the operating system.  I am running windows 7 pro legal copy of course as always.  What is the best way to repair windows 7 without having to redo my computer everything and start again.  I know that there are some missing files due to hard disk errors because strange things are happening now and some things do not work properly.

  • Is it possible to install Windows 7 on external HARD disk

    That is the problem.

A friend with a Toshiba laptop (do not know the model right, but probably with win7 - 6 month old machine) has a problem with the internal hard drive.
He crashed and his does not work.

It has the toshiba recovery CD and an external hard drive.
Is it possible for him to install win 7 on the external hard drive?

(the easy medium woyld be buying a new in-house but for the next 2 months because of his work that it is impossible).

    Hello

I don t think that it would be possible to install the Windows 7 external HARD disk.
You should replace the internal HARD disk and should put the new HARD drive in the laptop.
Then you should be able to install Windows 7 on the new HARD disc.

    Good luck

  • HP TouchSmart 420 - 1000 t CTO: need help with the installation of windows on a new hard drive for HP TouchSmart 420-1000 t CTO (bought in 2012)

My hard drive is failng in my computer I get the message that "the failure of hard drive" is imminent for several months now.  I did just recovery disks after I bought my computer and that you have ordered a new hard drive.

I thought that the part of the setup of windows on a portion of the current hard disk that I need to replace.

I want to just make sure that if I can restore the windows completely and that all programmes provided with the computer are on the recovery discs I want to do it myself - so I need to know I'm doing it correctly!

    Thank you very much.

    Kimberly

PS I found this web page below and I want to just make sure that it applies to me:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-TouchSmart-420-1000-desktop-PC-series/5146292/model/5155758/d...

This link in the post seems to apply to the situation.  If you have already completed the defined recovery disc then it should just be a matter of running the recovery disc after the new hard drive is installed.  The recovery disk set will be "restoring windows completely and all programs included with the computer".  Be aware that all other items that were installed or personal data will not be restored.  When replacing the hard drive, do not buy a disc exceeds the limit of 2 TB, such as published in the SPECS for TouchSmart 420-1000 t CTO.

    # With all these versions of Windows, the installation is
customized for specific hardware. This will not work on different
