Installed windows vista, but you want to réécrirait xp

I installed windows vista, but want xp back.  I prefer to work with the old operational system, as I am getting better.  I tried the system restore, but it says there is nothing there.  I don't have the disc xp because dell never gave me one, they said to use restore.

As well as the correct notice of Rick:

Call Dell and ask them to send a recovery disk/s XP set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    Monastir,

What happens when it stops it is have a Sata driver. It is on the drivers cd you received with your computer. You can also start the computer and press F2 to enter the bios. From there down to Configuration system - SATA Operation and change this to ATA. It is located to AHCI. Save the changes and restart the installation. Once you have loaded Windows and drivers installed, you will need to go back to AHCI.

  • I would like to re - install Windows Vista, but my drive does not all service packs. Download Windows Vista with service pack already on it?

so, I'm running vista 64 bit basic, I want to do a fresh install,

but my drive is very early (noservice packs ect) can I download of ms a basic family of complete up-to-date vista 64-bit with sp2 with my cd key? or should I shut up and make from my cd and cope? If I do a reinstall should I reinstall all my programs as well?

    Hello yaleblor,

You can download the full SP2 for Vista from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16468

Save the file to a CD/DVD or USB key.

Once you have the service pack downloaded file, you can use your current Vista CD to install a fresh copy of Windows Vista on your C: drive. Once you have installed Vista you can install service pack 2 directly from the CD/DVD or USB you originally stored it on. All you then need to do is to run the Windows updates to update your system completely.

You can find out how to do a clean install by looking at this link from my Web site: http://vistasupport.mvps.org/install_windows_vista.htm

After you install Windows Vista, you will need to re - install all your programs, so make sure that you have all the programs by hand before starting to consider reinstalling Windows.

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

Contact the manufacturer of your laptop and ask them to send a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

  • I have Windows Vista and you want to know, if I switch to Windows 7, will I lose my files, programs, settings and virus protection?

Currently I have Windows vista. I want to upgrade to windows 7. I would lose my files, programs, settings, and virus protection

    original title: upgrade

If you do an in place upgrade your files and programs will remain on the computer. If you perform a custom installation, you will need to back up your files and reinstall your programs.

    Installation - 'upgrade' means what?
Upgrade means that you can install Windows 7 simply by inserting the Windows 7 upgrade software in the DVD drive of your PC and follow the instructions on the screen. While you are not required to backup and reinstall your files, or reinstall your programs, it is a very good idea to back up your files and settings before you start any upgrade to the software. Get more information on the software updates and best practices .

Installation - what does "Custom (Clean)" Mean?
A custom (clean) installation clears the contents of the hard drive of your PC. Your files, settings, and programs will not be transferred to Windows 7. This means that to install Windows 7, you must:

    • Back up any files and settings you want to keep

    • Install Windows 7

    • Reinstall all your files

    • Reinstall all the programs you want to use.

These four steps take time, skills, techniques and Windows Easy Transfer can help. However, if you are not comfortable with this process, please consider having the installation carried out by a local service provider.

If you are running Windows Vista , in some cases you can proceed directly to Windows 7, and in other cases, you must perform a custom installation. The following table shows what editions of Windows Vista can be upgraded to Windows 7.

    Windows Vista Home Basic

Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate

    Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate

    Windows Vista Business

Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate

    Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

    Hi all.

Had a Sony Vaio with Vista Home Premium. It's worked well, but the other week, he dropped and since then it won't start.

Got a local PC shop to recover files as much as possible, but he said there's a new hard drive, then reinstall windows - £100 thank you very much.

I decided to take a ride and see if I could do it cheaper.

I can source a hard drive, but I never had a Vista CD with the laptop - I have the cost on the bottom of the laptop.

Where can I get a copy of Vista and how do I know if the COA made refers to 32-bit or 64-bit.

  • I installed Windows 7 but you need to go back to Windows XP. How?

I want to go back to Windows XP

Always I used Windows 7 and when I boot the cd of windows xp the computer is restarting. My computer is old so that windows 7 does not work correctly. How can I go back to windows xp?

You must start the computer from the XP installation disk.

Try to install XP, while the computer is already running will not work.

Perform a clean installation of Windows XP

A new installation is to remove all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstall the operating system and programs empty (clean) hard disk. For more information about important things to consider before you partition and format your hard disk and how to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

313348 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348/) how to partition and format a hard disk using the Windows XP Setup program

To perform a new installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:

    1. Back up all important information before you perform a new installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard drive.
    2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD or DVD and then reboot your computer.
Note to boot from the CD-ROM Windows XP, your computer BIOS settings must be configured to do this.
    3. When you see the message "Press any key to boot from CD", press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
    4. In the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
    5. Read the Microsoft software license agreement, and then press F8.
    6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
    7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of Windows XP.

I am a user under windows vista license so can I use Windows xp?
    If so, how?
If not what do I have to use windows xp?

You must have a copy of Windows XP, which is no longer made or sold. If you can find one, you can buy it.
Then you have to reformat your computer and install it instead of vista, ensuring that your computer is capable of running, and the manufacturer of the computer has all the necessary drivers.
