Instant withdrawal stuck at 95%

I'm trying to remove a few snapshots in the Snapshot Manager (8 in total) but ran into a problem.  I have removed the more recent than those (3 of them) first without a prolem but now the fourth snapshot will not delete.  The task log status indicator says 95% and won't go beyond.  It also seems to lock the virtual computer so that I can not even start it.

Also, when I look in the data store, I see of vmdk 29 - shouldn't these deleted when I delete a snapshot?

Looks like you're a lucky guy, and this can be easily solved...

According to the descriptors of these discs are not longer used.

Try the following:

-Stop the virtual machine

-move the VMDK to a different data store folder

-power on the virtual machine

If you do not get errors and your virtual machine has all the expected data, you can remove the VMDK.

If you get errors: after the error and the last log.

A question: how this virtual machine was created? It was imported from workstation?

I ask because the descriptors indicate there were several branches of snapshot once and numbering looks like WS too.

    Most of the time the script runs without any problems, but sometimes it seems it gets stuck at the stage now:

    After a bit of debug, we discovered that the script remains indefinitely waiting for "-delta.vmdk" files to disappear (line #785). If the command "vmsvc/snapshot.remove" seems not to be always successful in the consolidation and/or delete files.

    To resolve this situation, it must manually enter the VI client, create a new snapshot, and then delete it. Finally, the delta files disappear and the script will.

    Sometimes we get the same result by invoking "vim - cmd vmsvc/snapshot.remove" on the esxi console, but sometimes it fails with a strange "Segmentation fault".

    This problem occurs randomly on each virtual machine.

    As far as I remember he never saw on ESXi 4.0.

    You are right, but I just wanted to put this thread there in case you saw questions perform deletions on volume NFS this is something users have hit in the past and it is related to the configuration of your data backup store. This also applies to local storage and ensure that you have sufficient spindles supporting your data store and runs not too much local storage space.

  • Problems with SQL Server availability at the time of the instant withdrawal

    I use VMware VCB to backup a virtual computer that is running SQL Server 2005. Hang it works very well when the snapshot was taken, but I'm getting errors in my web applications .NET at the same time that the deletion of the snapshot is in progress. The errors indicate that the SQL Server is not available. Thus, the network does not respond for the snapshot validation process or e/s SQL Server gets interrupted (perhaps through an another quiesce?), when the snapshot is removed. Anyone know why that would happen? Do not hang the OS VMware at time of the instant withdrawal as well?

    No patch I know which would cause instant removal to pause the plu VM.  3.5 U2 introduced VSS in the virtual machine, but components that should affect only when a snapshot is created.  Also create the snapshot with smack memory made a break the considerably longer VM, but still affects only the creation of the snapshot not the elimination.

    I have a virtual machine that was a snapshot that I just deleted. It took a while and after investigation, I discovered the instant delta file is large 300 GB (!). Since I don't have that about 200 GB of free on this LUN I am afraid that I will be nonsense at one point. It worked for about an hour now, but there seems to be no disk activity or CPU whatsoever. On the SC to see flat delta change not the size of the files. From other threads, I discovered that commit a snapshot of what that big can easily take hours, but there is no indication that something is actually being run.

    Can I abort safely, because he wll probably run out of space at some point anyway?  What happens to my data?

    Is there a way I can recover from this situation?

    I suggest to use VMware Converter to convert this virtual machine to another virtual machine. After cloning, you can remove the old VM. It's faster and safer than commit snapshot.

    However, you need disk space to contain the clone of this virtual machine.

    When you remove (consolidation) a snapshot, you can normally restart the virtual machine.

    If I understand well for a deletion of the snapshot VSS is not used

    Afternoon,

    For our sins, we use Backup Exec to backup and every morning we see a snapshot left behind and he asks some questions. Part of my morning checks is to find and remove these pictures, but I'm not always the first and so if they are forgotten, then performance takes a hit.

    Snapshots are prefixed SYMC FULL and so I'm looking for research and the removal of these photos in the VM of script files.

    I'm looking for some advice to help me start or else if someone has already a ps1 that can do it then I would be happy to give it a go in our environment.

    For deletion, you can use something like this

    Get - VM | Get-Snapshot - name "SYMC-FUL * | Remove-Snapshot - confirm: $false

    We use vSphere 5.1 with vRanger 6 for the backup connection.

    For a particular VM with a size around 600 GB VMDK file, we find that we get the 'HA VM vSphere monitoring error' whenever the connection vRanger finished and tried to delete the snapshot.

    In fact, it seems that the virtual machine cannot be reset by vSphere HA we get the message "vSphere HA can not reset this virtual machine.

    We would like to ask for your opinion

    (1) why we get followed "vSphere VM HA" error and how to avoid it?

    (2) why HA reset failed (indeed, we don't want make reset)?

    Currently, I'm in the middle of a nightmare: a few moments I tried to delete a snapshot that has been there for a while on one of my virtual machines. Of course, it can take a loy of time for this kind of operation to achieve, so I waited patiently so that it reaches its end.

    But in the middle of it my host had a kernel panic (I'll have to diagnose this one).

    When I got to new host, the virtual machine was not the webui, try saving it shows the machine as being "unknow (invalid)"...

    I scoured Suur intrenet for a while, but everything I have read until knowledge is quiet frightneging.

    Could someone point me to a solution if there is? I have Saturday night here and I would not spend my Sunday to rebuild the server from scratch and have to explain Monday morning I lost 2 months of work for users little by relying on this virtual machine.

    In the past if I had a VM that is displayed as invalid when you try to add it to the inventory, I usually just created a new virtual machine based on the original settings & attached the existing VMDK.  Not sure how that will work with a virtual machine that has snapshots, but can be worth (nothing to lose)?

  • Data loss after the instant withdrawal (and errors)

    This title does not exactly cover all this... but the biggest part is covered.

    I'm fairly new to Vmware ESXi, but yesterday we had a problem. We had exactly this error in ONE of our virtual machines

    We have 2VM on a 250 GB SATA drive to the address in the mirror.

    Drives: 1 x 40 GB / 1 x 100 GB/1 x 70 GB

    As you can see, there was little room left. When the system tried to make snapshots (don't ask me why, we certainly didn't want to, we create backups on a San from some windows), he could not and that he left us the above error (at least that is what I think). After a few minutes on google I found this page http://virtrix.blogspot.com/2007/06/vmware-dreadful-sticky-snapshot.html.

    Then came a thought that it just was not enough room to make a snapshot. If a 160 GB extra hard drive is added to the server (physical). I copied the VHD, including the-000001-the new hard drive for the files delta.vmdk and - 000001.vmdk ( which took forever, 103 GB at least 6 hours all thoughts on this /offtopic).

    I removed the hard drive of the virtual machine (on the physical disk, the file has been moved to the new drive) and added the virtual disk to the virtual machine (not the delta, but the real - flat file).

    Then I did exaclty the last line of the page linked above, the line ending by "great huh? But things are not that great, because now we have data loss. I think that the changes in the files of snapshots must be inserted into the - flat file, but because the situation has changed... is it possible to do? Otherwise a few weeks of work or disappeared into thin air... (not yet looked in backups...)

    If the virtual machine never was under tension since the creation of hartserver_1 - 000002.vmdk we can ignore it.

    I started to copy the files after snapshots were made, I did not copy the snapshot files. and as I said in my first post,

    I deleted the disk of the virtual machine and added the 'copied' to the VM disk. (the - flat file) is when

    data loss of course occurred because the disk know not the snapshot files.

    In this case, copy the snapshot files to the new folder AND rename the old folder.

    Can also edit the VMX file and remove all the absolute paths.

    Example:

Task scriptable for both work very well. The snapshot process to create, to give the name and description of snapshot so I wonder if the instant withdrawal can be bind with them.

    Yes, you must create a new action item. Here are the steps:

    • Open the client Java vRO and switch perspective to 'Design' (using the fall down on top, just next to the label "vmware Orchestrator vRealize" at the top left)
    • Open the "Actions" tab in the left pane.

    Pessoal tenho um client than tem um servidor Vmware ESXi 5 e tem duas VMS e uma delas e um Windows Server 2008 R2, is um Veeam Backup V6 no ambiente, faz backup das Máquinas tolls, numa lentidao desgracada mesmo em rede gigabit e com gigabit mas faz backup storage.

    Me parece that o Veeam cried each backup snapshots na hora back, me ate preocupei com isso, isso pode topar POIS o disco Board host, POIS bem, o clients esta reclamando than a VM Windows Server 2008 ja travou 3 vezes e so volta ele, o Vmware reinicia desliga quando e liga a VM again, o client notou than no momento than VM trava , e visto no vSphere client a mensagem "Instant withdrawal", for 92% em não sai dai, then ocorre o travamento e.

  • Instant orphaned files - need to recover data on the basic disk

    Hello

    I'm sure this has been asked several times before, but how merge content from an instant orphan to the basic disk?

    Reading over there seem to be several different methods to do so.

    I have a virtual machine with three RDM, the virtual machine is running at the wide base VMDK disks but there is a single snapshot file associated with each base VMDK, snapshots do not appear in the Snapshot Manager.

    I tried to change the snapshot. The VMDK files and change the parent CIDs for the basic disk, but still not instant show in the Snapshot Manager.

    Is the best way to stop the virtual machine, remove the inventory and then add it to the inventory, I don't see the shots if the parent CID is correct?

    What is a better method?

    2. turn off then turn off the virtual machine (if it is not already off). Stop the current virtual machine with any Active snapshots.

    3. once the virtual machine is completely turned off, create a unique snapshot of the virtual machine and do not feed upward after this step.

    new files from today will still be there - but they are not referenced in the MFT and other pieces are replaced by old data of the orphan snapshot
    If you must do this with a backup...

    or - possibly use a snashot of the RDM, as it is now...

    in any case – which gives good advice is almost impossible without sitting in front of the case

  • Cannot backup VMs to the NFS server

    I only have a single physical hard drive "datastore1" on my 6.0 ESXi host. I also have NFS server:

    The solution was simple: my notebook + in Windows curled some symbols 'hidden' at the end of the first line, before that I sent this file via WinSCP.

    1. use only vi on your ESXi because different EOL codes (CR + LF/LF). Also don't let useful space and the end of the lines.

    2 set the async on your NFS server instead of synchronization that increases the speed of copy.

    3. place your script of ghettoVCB on your data store. For example: / vmfs/volumes/datastore1

  • No more available space and snapshots not taken (VEEAM)

    I have a BIG problem here and I do not see how to solve.

    For your info, I know my SAN is complete and really isn't a good way to run VMware, but I'm about to order the new SAN and servers this week.

    Right now, I have 3 data store. the one with the question is just related to Exchange 2007 and have total 380 GB.

    VEEAM has taken a backup of it and he sews it has never deleted the snapshot.

    So this morning, I got an instant "suppression" message on my VMware, Exchange is frozen and so was VEEAM.

    I have restart VEEAM, but I can't do a thing with seams Exhcnage is 'instant withdrawal. " No option available at the time where so he tries to remove it.

    But I guess it will never end because no more space is available.

    And I don't have any space anought on any data store to hold my Exchange Server...

    Can I do it fast?

    If I browse the data store, there is

    It seems that something is missing (Exchange - 000001.vmdk)

    Depends on the amount of RAM allocated to each of your virtual machines.

    There is a file (*.vswp), which is equal in size to the RAM configured for each virtual computer (unless there is a reserve memory for this virtual machine). Sometimes, if you're not too committed on physical RAM, setting a reserve memory for each equal to the configured RAM virtual computer will allow just enough room to go back to the feature (power - on virtual machines).

    The VMFS file system can be extended dynamically on Lun - to remove the snapshot for Exchange successfully, you may need to extend the VMFS volume where it is located. There are many ways to do this that go from 'good' to a bit dodgy.

    1. Best option: get your new business SAN and to create a LUN on where you can extend your existing VMFS volume, allowing enough space to commit the snapshot
    2. Improvised #1: Use an old server or workstation decent and build something like Openfiler, where you can introduce iSCSI and extend your VMFS
    3. Improvised #2: Use a physical Windows Server or workstation and the Wind Star to present an iSCSI LUN and expand your volume
    4. Out and buy a computer from office-SAN as Synology, present an iSCSI LUN and extend your volume

    Important: once the snapshot is engaged, move the virtual machine complete a contiguous VMFS volume on a single logic unit number and delete the extended volume!

    Good luck. Full VMFS because of clichés is a bitch! I have treated several times in a support capacity.
