  You can use both ethernet and wireless at the same time... but it becomes complicated with the gateway router and DNS values.

  Purchase of a disk external drive for my Macbook Pro is on the top of my to do list, I currently don't have 15 GB of free storage. I know that's not enough space for the computer to function properly. I definitely don't want what I just bought in March. Im trying to learn more about this kind of thing would have made very different when buying my Macbook if I could go back to March.I would be easily paid for the 256 GB of flash storage and would have probably just waited to buy it at all, until the so-called new macbook arrives soon.

  The correct method is to migrate. Use the migration assistant in the Utilities folder.

  However migrate doesn't have the fine selection you're after, if you do not want the entire folder like documents.

  You could find to manual aperture and copy the sparsebundle to Time Machine works ok... Use just traverse other disks of the main options of TM TM it in the dock.

  

  It might not allow you to recover files but I found that I could copy them into TM and then paste the files by jumping out to finder.

  Or you can migrate to another place is to say USB drive plugged into the computer and then retrieve files in a simple copy and paste... Although permissions can be a pain, and you must correct them before you can copy stuff to your own computer files.

  I have an old TPLink WD8961ND adsl wireless router, and now it is no longer used. I'm trying to use again as another scope wireless with time capsule as the main basis wireless.

  You may know that Apple uses parameters exclusive for their feature 'extend a wireless network', which are designed to allow only other Apple devices to "extend" the wireless network.

  Thus, while it was possible somehow for the TP-Link device do what you want... It also very unlikely to be able to do what you want.

  TPlink can act as a wireless bridge (using WDS), but time capsule does support WDS?

  Apple dropped support WDS, over 3 years ago. Even if WDS were always taken care... WDS runs at a speed much more slow 'g' wireless and use outdated security settings, so there is no advantage to using these older settings, even if you could.

  Unless you have tons of time your hands for the experience and a lot of patience, my advice would be extending wireless... and look at a configuration where the TP-Link is permanently connected to the Apple router by using the connection cable wired Ethernet TP-Link.

  The TC must either connect to wireless to another router from apple... or it must be connected by ethernet... he can't extend wireless any other brand.

  If all of the TC is to is to make backups of iMac... Plug it directly by ethernet on the iMac... and use this configuration.

  If you want to have as part of the network... plug in ethernet on the main router... and the backup more wireless... but it becomes a problem where the computer don't connect directly to the TC now.
