  I installed a new Seagate 1 TB hard drive and a new operating system Windows 7 Home Premium 32 - bit on my HP Pavilion a6500f PC.  I kept the old Seagate 500 GB disk, put it in an envelope and formatted to use as a unit of storage for backup of my drive.  However, when I open 'Computer' after having turned on the envelope I have 2 drives listed instead of one.  It says a (J) is the system reserved partition and the other (K) is the drive.  I put a picture to show what I mean.

  

  As you can see in the middle there are two partitions for the main drive (C), and the bottom shows the drive J and K.  What I want to know is how to get rid of this drive J so that all I have is the K left.

  Personally, I would use free mini tool to format the drive externally

  Thanks for posting to get ready for Windows 7.

  The 100 MB partition is a partition system and contains the boot files. Disk Manager does not allow you to delete this partition because they remove this partition could force the system to no boot.

  System reserved partition may appear in Windows Explorer if there is no drive letter assigned to it. We will remove the assigned drive letter for the system reserved Partition and restart the computer. Check if it helps.

  a. right click on the Start button , and then open disk management.

  b. right-click on reserved for the System Partition (F :). )

  c. click on change drive letters and paths.

  d. a new box will open, f: select and click on the Remove button.

  Base partition to reduce the partition of Windows 7 front enough so to "Extend" the 350 MB system partition by using the unallocated space created by reducing the Windows partition.

  You're right, that this problem is caused by the fact that your hard drive is cut using the style of partition table MBR, which allows only to create partitions to a maximum of 2 TB size each. In order to 'break' this limit, you must convert your hard drive in a GPT partition table, which does not have this limit (well, the limit to 128 TB then there it doesn't matter much). You can convert your hard disk from MBR to GPT without loss of data. Follow the instructions in the tutorial below:

  Assign a drive letter for the reserved system, this is the only way to access the partition through Explorer and itself causes no problems. Drive letters are specific to the o/s kick therefore have effect if the recovery of the operating system is loaded. This is because the BIOS does not work at a partition level.

  Withdrawal of the drive letter will also remove the Explorer views it protects so accidental change and has no effect on anything else.
