  I created a VM w2k8 server. I have attached a second virtual drive to it in the vsphere client determined I gave him too much space. I went back in the vshere client and click on delete. Now, when I go to add a second drive with the right amount of space I want t use I get error not enough space on the data store. I noticed that the old file vdmk still exist but do not know how to proceed. It is a 5 ESX environment and the data store is on the SAN. Space on the windows server is listed as unallocated.

  I'm trying to understand how to check free space on the data store until the proceeds of the svmotion.

  Example:

  -must first check that that sizeof (VMs to be moved) < sizeof (destination) - 50 GB before in terms of the

  -should leave a 50 GB buffer so that the script ends when all the VMS are moved from source data store or there are only 50 GB left on the source data store

  -must move VM to store data source to the destination data store 2 at a time, until the completion

  -must create a local log file, and then send this log file using the relay smtp server.

  I just started using powershell and have played with different things for about a week. I'm trying to understand this problem, anyone has advice or suggestions for me?

  I'm trying to find a VMware alarm that can warn me in this case. (As the alarm 'use of data to drive store"set up to warn me when 90% is used)

  Basically, when the data store is full, and a virtual machine on it ask the e/s, due to the fact that it is thin provisioned, it is currently interrupted by ESXi. All virtual machines that do not require what I/O may still work. When this happens, you get an error like this:

  

  What the virtual machine that will come to you, is basically a VM Message. Using vCenter, you can create an alarm that goes off when the virtual machine (an individual) information message. The message that I used was something like this:

  

  When I then make a virtual machine on a data store set up thin, my alarm clock personalized using thin disks implemented short of space, was triggered.

  

  NB. I saw icon of the virtual machine in a State of alarm after that I clicked retry on the popup. If you don't do this, the virtual machine icon will be the State in question, but will always be triggered the custom alarm.

  I'm under VMware ESXi on HP Proliant DL380 G5 server - the data store has a global capacity of 678 GB, with now 34 GB free. I have 5 VMs running:

  reader1/lecteur2

  (1) Win2k3: 50 / 100

  (3) Win2k3: 50 / 50

  (1) Windows XP: 10

  Oh - and the two models, one for the server (50) and a XP (10)

  Yesterday, I created a couple of clones of the XP, 1 with Vmkfstools - i and the other with vConverter - especially for the practice, but they are only 10 GB. Before my creations, free space read about 115 GB - then she got at the moment, I noticed 34GB. I deleted the two new virtual machines thinking I came home back from space, but no dice. Math is not my best subject, but this does not seem to add up. Do something wrong, I missed something?

  Is it possible to reclaim that space? Before I thought to check with you guys, it dawned on me that I could stop all VMs and restart the host, but if there is another way, I want to know it.

  Browse the data store - go to the "Home" view - inventory - data warehouses, click a data store, and then select Browse.

  Look in the subdirectory for each virtual computer and determine that seem abnormal large size files and total size of all files that exceed the size of the virtual disks assigned to the virtual machine.  If you specify then what are the names of the files a plan for how to get rid of them.

  Here's my problem. I have several virtual machines. But one of them can be powered on because of the problem of space. I can not add spaces because there is nothing to add.   There are several ways to approach this problem

  1. you can storage vmotion, some VMs who are currently used and this will free space.

  2. check the clichés that you don't use, and delete those.

  3. reduce the memory of some other virtual machines which are turned on so that the swap space can be saved.

  I have 3 connected to my server from Vsphere data warehouses, data warehouses are a Terrabyte each but only have about 65 concerts on the free space on each of them.

  I need to resize/shrink a disc of comments (disc Win2008r2 800 GB to 300 GB) and I read that there is some reasonable success using a conversion, v2v (with vCenter Standalone Converter), but my concern is that I have only 50 GB free on the host data store.

  I would be able to download and drop the virtual machine folder and files on my local machine and convert from my local to the esxi host?  If not, what other options are there?

  Yes, you can use the VMware Converter to convert the machine virtual VMware Workstation/Player format and save the files on your PC.

  Once this is done, then run the converter again choose VMware Workstation/Player as source and your virtual infrastructure as your destination.

  However, if the new virtual machine is over 50 GB in size, you can have a space problem.  You can, on the last page of the VMware converter during the movement of the virtual dos machine to your vSphere host, make sure that the disc is set to THIN provision...

  We have a HP DL580 G7 Server P410i raid controller with 8 x 1 TB HDD.

  I create a raid 1 with 2 hard drives (1 TB) and raid 5 with 6 hard drives (5 TB) and install ESXi 5.1 in the first data store (1 to).

  After installation when I tried to create the 5 TB data store, (ESXi detects and displays the space available 5 TB) it does use that almost 2.5 TB! and may not use all the space

  I also installed the ESXi 5.5 but still no luck.

  I have a running ESXi 4.1.0 2 Windows VMs server.  Everything worked very well, but I had to turn off all of the server and physically move.  When I powered it back, only on virtual machines with the power on at the same time.  The other dies with the error above.  I have very little experience with VMware and I'd appreciate any help.  Thank you.

  Welcome to the community - the reason why you can't turn on your VM is because a vmkernel swap file is created when you turn on the virtual machine, and if there is not enough space, then, you will receive this error - you'll need clean the directories where are installed the virtual machines - you'll need to remove all of the log files If there are snapshots commit those and then you should be able to powere on virtual machines

  Through a series of automated tasks and bad luck, here's where I'm stuck.  looking for advice on the best way to fix it.

  ESXi server with the local data store

  A server (Blackberry server, not quite important and have a good backup, worst case I could rebuild without too much pain)

  • Slim 30 GB put in service

  Server B (Production and Production Exchange server file server):

  • 2 virtual drives

  • Drive hard 1: 80 GB thin provisioned

  • Hard drive: 500 GB 2 thick put into service

  • There is somehow a snapshot on this disk which is 196GB (which has a few things needed for this topic)

  • VSphere client does not show that there is a snapshot, but the navigation data store, it's there

  I am running very low on space (30GB free) on the data store.  I have a 1 TB NAS device (it is the NFS case) but it's mostly full with other backups of VMs whose only good backup from Server B that I would prefer not wipe.

  This snapshot will commit with what little free space?  If so, how given that vsphere client shows that there is no snapshot?

  Looking for pros for a good solution/order issues in.  I am of course headed out of town for a week and I hope the 30 GB I have free will last while I went, but will keep you informed along the way.

  In my opinion, there should not be any need a lot of additional disk space for deleting a snapshot on a thick disc put into service. To remove the snapshot, create another cliché on the virtual machine, and then open the Snapshot Manager and select "clear all". This will engage all snapshots on the basic disk, no matter whether they are displayed in the Snapshot Manager. Due to the size of the deletion my take several hours (depending on your speed of storage)

  With one snapshot, you have, it's no problem, but if there were several snapshots, you need to be careful, depending on the version/version of ESX (i) installed. Make sure you don't miss disk space during the validation process of the snapshot, because for example many changes to a thin provisioned VM. To be on save her side, you should do the deletion either while the virtual machine is not used much or - even better - while the virtual machine is turned off.

  Have you tried signing off iCloud desktop and then signing again? If you check on the phone, does show the plan 50 GB? Are you sure that the two devices are signed on the same iCloud account?

  I don't think that it is possible to resize directly through the ovftool. You can resize the virtual disk using the VMware tools as described in this post: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1004047

  Who manages the virtual disk, but you still need to expand the disk system/root of the guest. To do this, you can find several articles that use the gparted a tool appropriΘ for their examples through a simple Google search.

  With the disk space required on drive E, it may be useful to consider an alternative:

  • create a (much smaller) another virtual disk
  • Stop all of the services entering drive E
  • Copy the data from drive E more to the new virtual disk (for example using robocopy)
  • switch drive letters
  • Once everything is working as expected, get rid of the old virtual disk

  This will not only reduce the disk space used on the data store, but also to ensure that the virtual disk cannot grow more.
