Is the Perflib_Perfdata_a3c.dat file in the Temp folder a virus? Says it cannot be deleted.

been having serious trouble for 12 days now and my SE no longer works. Anyone know if this file is a virus or Trojan or whatever?

Windows performance monitoring programs create files named Perflib_Perfdata_xxx.dat, which can not be removed while running the program that created them.  You should be able to remove those files that were created before today.  They do not indicate a virus.

I don't know what you mean by "SE".  If you mean Microsoft Security Essentials , you can get help in forums of Microsoft Security Essentials .

    Hi bobr_589,

A standard procedure for the administration of the system is to reduce the amount of storage space used (typically a hard disk) by deleting temporary files.

That the file is in temp you can remove it because it is not a update file.

  • The files have been moved to the temp folder, but now they're gone!

When my computer did its last update, it changed everything and all my documents in my office were missing. After some research, I found the files under my username and content of the temp folder. (I know little or nothing to the computer) I just dragged and dropped on my desk and everything was fine, but when I stopped and restarted my computer, my office was returned to what it was originally, but this time all folders were empty and the files that I had slipped into the 'new' office have disappeared! OK, so I went into the folder users again, but this time the temporary folder is missing. I found a folder called temp somewhere else, but this did not help at all because it was empty. I tried a system restore, but it didn't help me to recover my files. Help!

It seems that you have logged in the temporary user profile. In the temporary profiles, no data is stored permanently and the data stored in each session are deleted once the user disconnects.

  • Deleting the file in the Temp folder

I have a file in my TEMP folder called BCGECE. TEMP

He said: I can not remove it because it is used by another person or program and to close all applications and try again. I have notheing ope, but still can not remove it?

    Suspect A malware.

What anti-virus application is installed? What's his current subscription? He has never been allowed to expire?
What other antimalware applications are in use?

Download, install, update and run full scans with each of the following free tools. Do not run the scans at the same time. Each analysis will take a long time, so start an and then go for a non computer chore.  Leave the delete/quarantine everything it finds. Once completed, you can uninstall these applications.
    MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    SUPERAntiSpyware

Do a scan with the free eSet online scanner virus

    B. delete the file

Assuming that the file is not removed by one of the above tools, the following steps work almost always:

    • Close all running applications.
    • Open Task Manager (press CTRL + ALT + DELETE)
    • Open a command prompt window (start > run > cmd > OK)
    • Type the following in the black command prompt window, and then press ENTER after each line
      CD folder
dir b * (this step is only to list all the files to confirm that you have changed the appropriate directory, make sure that BCGECE.) TEMP is in the list)
    • In Task Manager, find explorer.exe in the processes list, select it, then click on "end process."  Your desktop will become empty except for open windows from the command prompt and the Task Manager
    • Return to the command prompt window and type the following line and press enter
      del BCGECE. TEMP
    • In the Task Manager, click file > new task (run...) and type explorer.exe in the area. Click OK. Your desktop should reappear
    • Close the Task Manager windows command prompt

If for any reason the foregoing does not, from the start in a "clean boot" configuration XP and delete the file in the usual way.   Use "Method 2" (manual method) to the linked article.

  • What happens if I delete the files in the Temp folder in Windows 7?

What is happening in the windows--> Temp folder in windows 7, and if I delete the files there, that will be a problem?  I want to free up the disk space of 1.8 G, but can't find any info anywhere of the consequences of deleting these files, what they are for, or how they got there.  Thank you!

In general, it is safe to delete anything in the Temp folder.  Sometimes, you can get a "Cannot be deleted because the file is in use" message, but you can just ignore these files.

For safety, do your Temp directory deletion right after you restart the computer.  Sometimes a program installer will put something in the Temp directory it needs to complete the installation after a reboot.  If you restart and wait a bit so that they were, whatever left in the Temp folder should be OK to delete it.

If you want to be conservative, use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool (type of cleaning disc in the search box).  If you select "Temporary files" as one of the elements to clean (deleted), by default, that Disk Cleanup removes only the files that have not changed in 7 days.

  • How to force remove a virus/malware process/file in the temp folder?

I am sure that I met a virus/malware and she had tried several times to enter a first time (that I had said no to the permission of windows) in my hard drive and then hours later, something was repeatedly asking me to upload a file to my computer I say also to cancel. They were not the debug log files. And I've never seen these files before. How can I force malicious deleting something like this will not remove like regular temporary files that are.

  • Running script without the necessary permissions to access the Temp folder

    Hello

I'm under AE CC 2015 (latest version) in Windows 7 and I try to use a script (easy arrows) that requires the "Allow of Scripts to write files and access network" to be activated in the AE preferences.

My COMPUTER service stopped executables to run in the temp folder, what happens when a script requires that the "Allow Scripts to write files and access network" is checked in the preferences of After Effects. I was able to use this script successfully before these new policies have been deployed.

I tried easy arrows running from the file > Scripts > run Script file... but has not worked since AE search only the .jsx and not jsxbin file. I tried the filter "All files" when looking for the easy arrows jsxbin file. Is it possible to have the scripts look to another directory to run? The developer has offered to engineer a solution that works within our policies, but I know that I will get the approval of the budget for it.

I understand this is an error caused entirely by my Department, but I just need to check that there is not another solution other than to change my local permissions (which they probably aren't).

I just need to check that After Effects doesn't have a work around to do this, IE: run scripts from another location, etc.

Here is the error in Event Viewer that is generated when I try and run easily arrows:

You can have several temporary folders. Your guys TI could establish a sharing folder or specific local network for you and include it in the temp system variable, but only when you run as a specific user. Of course, there is always the risk that malicious stuff uses this specific temporary folder, but it is significantly less exposed. Your guy just TI do not go quite far with it and in fact they could impose this even further by using EMET and preventing the execution of specific applications entirely. Although Windows anti-glare very wide open in its default configuration, a lot of it can be controlled and implemented in your favor.

  • My Windows 7 computer has office in the Temp folder! It is wrong and what should I do?

I had a hard drive because of all the files copied several times (a virus) crash? Restored the my documents, my music and my image folders to the new hard drive of the computer and manually delete the duplicate files.

New computer works fine but I noticed the structure will computer > disc Local (c) > users > temp > and then Temp are all folders like desktop, downloads, My Documents, my music, etc..

Is this normal, should I do something? I also have a folder named Temp in the Windows folder, which seems more the usual thing...

    Thank you!

I'm afraid the old drive crashed due to a virus and is perhaps still LURKING in the new hard drive somehow.

It seems that if the 'Temp' folder is the folder of the user profile of the account named "Temp". Open (Control Panel) user accounts and check if there is a username called "Temp". If so, do not delete this folder.

Or, click Start, type cmd /k net users (press ENTER) to see the list of user accounts in the system.

Matt, thanks. I read your blog post. I need to replace my HD and I've been fretting over if I have to loose important data from the temporary files. Apparently not. When I talked about ccleaner, it was in the generic sense. I avoided ccleaner because I thought it was a big hammer and some data that he brags about getting rid of I really want to continue. I know that I can choose what remains and what is happening, I'll have to give him another look. Once again thank you.
