is there a dynamic dimension in essbase

Hi all, I had a problem, I appreciate any suggestion.

problem / / desc:

There is a dimension of the part in my essbase cube. part code is the code on the one hand, and the code for class is the class of the part.

in this dimension, suppose that class code is 2nd generation, and code generation part 3 (in the dimension of the eas).

the paroblem is that part P is the class of category A in 2012, but it is changed to B in 2013. In my size, the class of

part P is B class.

but I leave class is equal to A of P when the display.  and I want to emphasize that the dimension of the part is a standard dimension.

any help?

I know it's

It is a classic question of OLAP modeling.  If you upgraded the design phase, and it is a production system, someone screwed upward.

If you go on ODTUG.com site and sign up (free!) I did a presentation called 'Advanced Design Considerations for OSI' Kscope12 which lists all (?) approaches this problem with their advantages and disadvantages.  The pieces you want are pages 33 to 38 of the .pdf file.  Maybe give a first reading.  It's here (link only works once you have a WORLD account): WORLD: technical resources WORLD

  • Newbie question: how to set up a dynamic security with Essbase?

    Hi all

of course, I'm new to technology Essbase and I have a simple question:

-How can I configure a dynamic in Essbase OLAP server security so that the user can only see some members of the dimension (and according to the rows in the fact table)?

By dynamic, I mean that I don't have to click on in via UI (for example http://businessintelligencedw.blogspot.com/2009/01/security-filter-essbase-tutorial.html), but to base the permissions on a database table where I can easily my users (by program) adjust the visible members for my users.
Also, can I add users/roles programmatically?
Surely, for mulitple user environments didn't click on them while...

Can someone point me to relevenat documentation, I checked on this book (http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Essbase-OLAP-Multidimensional-Solution/dp/0071621822), but there is not a single sentence on the security in this :(

It's a new bad:(et une bonne raison de laisser tomber le produit.)

Wow, I would not say it is a breaker business, but to each his own.

Well, there are other 'issues' with Essbase. As I imagine that there are with MSAS.

I think of them as the oddities. But of course the quirks are the faults that love makes forgive you. I guess that means that I love you Esbsase. It's sad.

I agree that an Excel/VBA solution is not... ideal. But in the context of the client, this is what they wanted.

I pull a SQL - tables generated if I had to do it now, then run it through MaxL. I documented using MaxL/VBScript (go easy on me, Hey, it's a MS product) to generate the filters that look pretty. I will avoid linking to my blog twice in the same thread, but I have a post with the code example that shows how to do this. Research of planning + filters in the blog. It might give you some ideas.

  • Different paths to a common Dimension of Essbase with varied depth drill

    Hello
Need a solution to a problem that I met where in I have two Essbase cubes, in the two cubes, there is A dimension, the dimension has several different levels in each of the cubes. How to associate the drilling dimension path to match their existing structure in the respective cubes? I don't want just a single dimension of MDB level.

    An example scenario would be:
    Cube 1: Products-> product category-> subcategory-> product name product
    Cube 2: Products-> product category

I want to have only one product in the MDB layer Dimension and have multiple hierarchies on it. My problem is how to associate the process of drilling the cube on which it should work-specific? The cubes are identical to each other in all other aspects other than this difference.

    Thank you and best regards,
    LARY

@user3879025: no one mentioned SAP and irregular hierarchies work perfectly fine Essbase and MS Analysis Server for example.

@jboy: ok, so you will have logical table and a hierarchy.

Physically, you need to define a complex join (physical don't work... we discussed lately here) where Cube1.Country = Cube2.Country.

The logical table will have four logical columns 'The world', 'Région', 'Country' and 'city '. You create those start with Cube1 logical table. You pull Cube2.Country on the Cube1.Country column to get a double mapping for this column. You pull the Cube2.City column on the logical table source Cube2.

Now go through the LTS and columns and make sure they have the right levels of value. LTS to Cube1 will be at the level of the "country". LTS Cube2 will be 'city '.

For the hierarchy, you will start also turned off with one that has been created since Cube1.

Since there is now a single column called 'Country' remaining, you're already in the green up to this level. Now, to add a new child that contains the column 'City '. It is your hierarchy supported.

Now, the thing lacking is of course the measures. Here, you get new levels right. Cube1.Measure1 and Cube1.Measure2 will be at the content level "Country", while measures Cube2 will be at the level of 'City '.
Best thing to do would be to limit this model in a clean (at least a clean presentation catalogue) business model to eliminate the problems from other dimensions (unconforming) you will very likely and potential errors so removed for users who are not aware of the real structure in the background.

  • What happens in steady when I change a dense dimension in Essbase?

    Hi all

When I add/change/remove any member of Dimension Dense, what are the files that would be get restructured.

I know they are otl files, pag and ind but don't know how/why file ind gets restructured.

(Index files contains the only address to the actual data blocks which are formed by unique combinations of sparse dimension, but when we make changes to Dense dimension why file ind gets restructured).

    Thank you

    Amith

Amith, the index contains pointers existing blocks - it literally tells Essbase where in the .pag files to find a particular block.  If the blocks change size / move (because they will be in a dense restructuring implied), the updated index.

Take Sample.Basic for example.  If the block for "NYC"->"100-10" exists from the 1000th byte of ess00001.pag, the index entry for "New York"-> "100-10" will take account of this.  Then, we perform an implicit restructuring by removing a few dense members.  The block for "New York"-> "" 100-10 will always exist, but it might be present in the file from the 500th byte.  The entry of index for "New York" file-> "" 100-10 must be updated.

See optimizing database restructuring in the database administrator's Guide (Sreekumar post above is actually taken from this section).

  • Number of Dimensions of Essbase

    Hello
Dimensions of 12 to 13 in Essbase too? (Block or global storage). I have a request for a database, but it seems that they want up to 13 dimensions.
I was told at one point that the optimal number was 9
The question is, users will be able to load to the dimensions of the attribute using Excel?

^ ^ ^ Not that I know of. How do you see the attributes used against that? Attributes this fact projects and relationship id doc? Who's going to be difficult. I guess you could stick the two dimensions of attribute on the sheet, then remove the lack, then Pierce to zero in two dimensions with delete missing. That's assuming that you already have all the intersections of data defined.

Maybe it shouldn't be attributes, but rather real dimensions?

Could come you up with some type of partitioned (can be a partition of Essbase reall or some kind of ETL would be given export and import) approach where you wrote to a smaller cube with less information and wrote for the big one?

Or you could do something cool with Dodeca where you understand all relations between id doc and project and then this number just as the information on the worksheet. The relationship between the two dimensions, with a view to entry, could be dealt with in a relational back-end and then only the members that you want to appear in a form of input.

  • Order of the HSP_Rates dimensions in essbase

  • R there are certain applications in essbase. How do I know which is unicode and Nonunicode, so that we can migrate to a new server.

We need to migrate from old to new server, so is there a chance as change properties where we can know wheather the application is unicode or nonunicode, so that we can make similar in the new server applications by using the migration wizard, first by making applications same dummy and then use the wizard to migrate.

You change the properties in the database and not on the application level, try at the application level.

  • What type of Essbase restructuring occurs if change the position of sparse dimension in outline

The wording of the Essbase Administrator's guide is curious me...

We have a 11.1.2.2 application Planning/Essbase and I want to use the Performance parameters in the planning to go down a dimension of the sparse outline more order.

Essbase (contour change Quick Reference) Administrator's guide tells me two possible outcomes, but it's not clear to me which apply in my case.

The first case: ("change the order of the two-dimensional sparse") said Essbase restructures the index.

The second case: ("change the order of dimensions') said Essbase restructures them data and index

Hoping that the forum can help me decide which one of them is true - thank you.

I never noticed the ambiguity of leaflets before, but if you just change the order of the sparse dimensions, it should be the first (an index restructure).

  • Changing a dimension of stored to ASO dynamics will change my Calc MDX results?

    Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays!

Changing a dimension of stored to ASO dynamics will change my Calc MDX results?

Has anyone turn their dimensions of dynamic Stored?  What are the problems that you have experienced?

Thank you for the early Christmas present (with answers).

As suggested by the other responses, it depends in part why you change.

As Philippe said, the potential problem is calculation order. Stored dimensions are always grouped before the member formulas / dynamic dimensions.

If you do everything is change a dimension currently stored is dynamic (i.e. you don't change consolidation properties, or add formulas) and then you end up with a dynamic dimension with all members having a resolution of zero order. "The order of resolution" is a property that controls the order of calculation and extends from 0 to 127.

This can change calculation results if you have existing dynamic members who also solve orders from scratch, because the solve order "tie" is broken by order reverse contour of the dimensions.

So if you change a dimension currently stored in dynamic and it appears in the sketch after (lowest in the Outline Editor view) all other dynamic dimensions (or all your other dynamic dimension members have an order of resolution greater than zero), you're safe; There is certainly no change in behavior. If you change a dynamic currently stored dimension and there are other sides dynamic after him in the sketch that contain zero members to resolve, you should test.

Further details on the order of calculation ASO in the database administrator's Guide: ASO calculation order

    * I leave aside the extremely rare case where you set orders non-zero address stored dimension, that (unfortunately) Essbase allows to perform, despite the fact it has no effect whatsoever - orders to solve without meaning survive the dynamic conversion and become meaningful.

  • Question about compression in essbase ASO

I have a few questions about to define a dimension of compression in Essbase ASO apps:-

    1. is it a good idea to have the size of compressor in app Essbase ASO.

    2. I read somewhere that said it would not be good idea to have the compression period dimension where months YTD neighbourhoods and quarters of the year. So should we put compression on any other dimension dynamic calc and roll ups and have less none of level 0 members stored.

    3. I have observed that when we level 0 export from an ASO application with compressed size vs ASO application with no compressed dimension, there is a difference in size of data export file. I'm not able to understand why it is so. I understand the difference between the size of data (.dat file) between Tablet app vs app uncompressed file, but do not understand the difference when the data is exported to a .txt file.

    Thank you

    (1) compression dimension is not mandatory, but it contributes to the performance. The compression dimension is a dynamic dimension. We need the column headers in a data load file. Ideal compression is achieved if the number of leaf-level members are divisible by 16.

    (2) ASO tuning is an art as much as a science.  The best choice depends on the distribution of data in the database.  and it's different in each database.  Read all the information and then test the various options.  Try it with time as the compression and then try with the next best dynamic dimension defined as dimension of compression.  I've linked a doc tuning which is version 7, but has a very detailed discussion of the dimensions of compression.

    http://www.Oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-Foundation/4822-tuning-Essbase-ASO-WP-133014.PDF

    (3) the format of the header (layout) of the export may be different when you use compression vs when you are not using compression.  It will certainly be different if you use another dimension for compression.  I expect the size of the file to edit when the compression setting is changed.

  • Publish with essbase lock and send

I am facing a strange problem with my lock essbase and send. For example if there are 2 lines in the worksheet we need loack and send data, if a member of the second row who is mentioned is incorrectly or not present in the outline, essbase replaces the invalid member with the Member of the same column in the previous row, and sends the data instead of reject the line It's the origin of the data issues. I want the second row is rejected by the lock and send, I use essbase excel addin. the version of the addin is 11.1.2.0 and execution of upload essbase server version 11.1.2.4.004. Could someone please help me solve this problem.

    Hello

what you describe is a common feature. Unknown member (or comments) are ignored in SmartView, but when the application can be designed by taking the last known member of the dimension, the query (and lock operation and sending) are carried out.

For example, there are 2 dimensions in rows, the period and the scenario.

He comes to work and click OK:

    Real 11 Jan

    Budget of Jan 10

    Real 11 Jan

    Budget 10

This will work, Budgets is misspelled, and when we let out, you see a bad request:

    Real 11 Jan

    Budgets of Jan 10

    Real 11 Jan

    Jan                     10

This will work, Jans is spelled wrong, and when we let out, correct query will appear:

    Real 11 Jan

    Jans Budget 10

    Real 11 Jan

    Budget 10

This will happen at your side. Smart View has (for me) not a real feasible option to come around that. It goes same for formulas - the result of these will be loaded with lock and send.

    Steps to reproduce->

1 start export step in order to export/load data into Essbase. Starting export message display processing, please wait... and it hungs here. Export process never ends.

Essbase adapter is configured with the default options

    Hello

Thanks for the reply. Problem solved. Problem was in configuration. In Essbase dimension entity adapter has been disabled, and in the script, in addition, there was an inplanted value '-'. When we activated the entity dimension in Essbase adapter, export to Essbase lasts 20 sec.

  • Problem of calculation of dynamic scenario ASO

    Dear friends,

There is a request from the client to automate the calculation of dynamic scenario,

Here, the example below should be automated.

If you look at the code, the current month is seven (& Startmo is the variable for this) version is at work and the working version should be set under every month until dec in line with forecasts current-> work, and over seven months is must be real-> Final, currently, customer is updated manually for each month. As am new to Aso could someone help me get the logic right with the formulas of existing mdx or is there another way to do it.

What is already existing: the Substitution variables start month (Sep) and month (Aug)
    Period: Dynamic Dimension
    Years: stored
    Scenario: Active Hirearchies
    Version: stored

When (CurrentMember is ([years]) [FY10] AND CurrentMember ([period]) is [July]) then ([scenario]. [Real] [Version]. [Final])
When (CurrentMember is ([years]) [FY10] AND CurrentMember ([period]) [August]) then ([scenario]. [Real] [Version]. [Final])
