  Could a right click on the PDF file > open with > choose program by default and select CD player as default PDF Viewer.

  You can do it from the control panel as well.

  This would make CD player as default PDF Viewer.

  It may or may not work properly with this OS.

  you're right about s/n Oops! It was the latest version that I downloaded on the site last week - Acrobat X Standard, that's what I had bought before, and s/n does not.   The word problem seems more likely to have a bug introduced by Microsoft in their last update for Word 2016, a couple of weeks. Someone posted a way to get Word to revert to a version:

  To revert to a version earlier office 2013 or 2016 Office in the form of installation of Office 365, you must use a command line and specify the build number, that you want to return.

  1. As Office 365 facilities are automatically updated in the background, you must disable the automatic updates first. This can be done in any application Office 365 via:
     File-> Office account-> Update Options-> disable updates
  2. Open a command prompt:
     1. Start-> type:cmd
     2. Click on: command prompt
     3. Choose: Run as administrator
     4. Provide your credentials to the administrator or to confirm the user account control dialog box when you are prompted.
  3. Type the command below that applies to your version of Office or Windows
     • Office 2016
       cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRun\
     • 2013 office under Windows 32-bit

  2. What is the format of the files you are trying to extract?
  3. do you get an error message?
  4. the problem occurs with any particular drive?
