We use the exact and some error message in more detail on the issue. This problem occurs with any file on the disk or only some of them? You are logged as administrator? Has anything changed recently (hardware or software)? The first thing I would say to run a Virus scan and malware. If there are no problems found then not try the following steps:
Run the following commands.Chkdsk /r

Full service pack 2 for Windows Vista update problem
I'm bad havivg update to service pack two for Windows Vista Edition full. After I download and install the package it says then return back to the previous windows instalation. This whole process takes seven or eight hours. Then, I get so sort of little box on a black screen with some kind of error message and code. The last time I did this update I have re-installed a clean windows all over vista. So I lose some files. Then, Windows stores some of the files on the instalation of windows prior to an old file of windows. So what should I do to solve this problem? Is there a quick fix to this problem? Anybodys help is appreciated.
Bye, narrating
Hello Michael,
Thanks for your help, but I downloaded the utility Windows install cleanup a few days ago and installed it. Today, after I first started my computer, I got a notification down in the lower right of my screen saying new updates are available. I clicked ok on update for service pack 2 and installed successfully.

Addition of Service Pack 3 for Windows XP Home Edition creates the system failure
We have an older Compaq Presario that came with Windows XP Home Edition. [a Pentium 1 2005]
I try to install Windows Live Onecare (free Qwest). When I update our Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3, when I reboot I get a black screen that says that there is an error with a recent change of hardware or drivers. So I boot safe mode.
There has been no hardware changes.
I did a destructive restore by using the Compaq recovery disk which is supposed to wipe the drive and reinstall everything.
I can update Windows XP with service pack 3 and everything works. When I install Windows Live Onecare, at the next restart I get the same black screen and need to start in safe mode.
I can do a destructive restore and load Windows Live Onecare and work without any problem as long as I do not install Service Pack 3.
I tried to make recovery of Windows with the same results. I can do a restore before any point where I do not have the Windows Live Onecare and the Service Pack 3 and everything works fine.So I guess that there is a conflict between Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows Live Onecare on this computer. I have both works well on other computers in our home network, but they are Pentium III or higher.
Anyone know if there is a difficulty, or just simply never through my XP Home SR3?
TIA, LR0451

Original title: problem after installing Windows Service Pack 3 on Windows XP Home Media edition pc
My pc runs Windows XP Home Media edition. I installed Windows Service Pack 3 successfully, or so I thought. Whenever I turn on my pc a box opens indicating "files which are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions." To maintain the stability of the system. Windows must restore the original versions of these files. Install your Windows XP Professional CD2. I don't have any Windows XP Professional CD that I use the Home Media Edition. If I press Cancel repeatedly, the window disappears to return with the same information, but ask me to install Windows XP Professional CD3. How can I stop this happening?
Hello
Step 1: I suggest you perform the SFC scan on the computer and check.
SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search.
2. right click on cmd in the list programs and then click Run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue
3. at the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:sfc/scannow
Step 2: Also, look for error messages in the event viewer. If you find error messages after return the exact error message so that we can help you better.

Hello
Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.
It will also tell you here what Service Packs, if any, are already installed.
Then, choose the download of 'bit' OK to use to install Service Packs, first of all the installation of SP1.

After you install service pack 2 for windows vista
After installing service pack 2 for windows vista on my HP laptop, I started having a few problems. First off the computer would not go beyond the Welcome screen because he showed that an update was the installation (step 1 of 3:0 % etc.) and the computer reboots before finish. It kept the case whenever I started upward, even on safe mode. I tried to restore, but it would never be completed and nothing else would work. Now I can't go beyond the microsoft loading screen because it shows a black flat screen with no cursor. I can't enter safe mode. Help, please. Safe mode only shows the start screen but won't start so I can't access the control panel and tried to boot to the last known successful startup but it failed.
Hello
Try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft
Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.
Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.
If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.

Table of contents

If you do not or can not borrow a Microsoft DVD there is a download of a file ISO of Vista Startup Repair available that you can put on a Bootable floppy to make the above startup repair and that the method is recommended by a large number of posters in these Forums.
Unfortunately, you have to buy it.
