Tha window is labeled as 'Connect to administrator.

can Sombody you tell me how I can go through this layer of security
Thank you & respect

Just to put in a simple format of what Paul said.

Do all this, step by step. What follows is based on Linux.

$export JAVA_HOME=$ORACLE_HOME/jdk
--Change to this directory
$cd $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/isqlplus/application-deployments/isqlplus

--Run this command without changing anything. Note that this is case sensitive.

$JAVA_HOME/bin/java -Djava.security.properties=$ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/home/config/jazn.security.props -jar $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/home/jazn.jar -user "iSQL*Plus DBA/admin" -password welcome -shell

--It will bring you to this prompt
JAZN> adduser "iSQL*Plus DBA" username password

--Here you need to replace the username passowrd with any new username and password. This user would be used to authenticate your isqlplus session.

--Grant hte new user, Webdba role , replace teh username with your created user name.
JAZN> grantrole webDba "iSQL*Plus DBA" username

JAZN> exit

Once you have done above, simply go to the same connection isqlplus/dba. In the pop-up, pass the user name and password of the user that you created. If everything works well, you would be brought to the top page isqlplus where there is an option to enter with his password for the Sys user.

HTH

  • can not connect as sysdba or sys - insufficient privileges - Oracle 10g

    Hi guys.

While I was learning about the roles I had created a role and give to some users to this role. That's all is OK but after some time w I could not connect as sysdba/sys as sysdba or sys. They all said no sufficient privileges.

Could you help me with this please?

You're confused OS users and users of data.

'Scott' is a database user "SYS" is a database user.

You must be connected to the server using an OS account that is in the Group dba (ora_dba in Windows), or you will not have sufficient privileges.

You try to use the OS authentication to connect to the database. It is disabled. to connect to the database, you will need to login as "sys as sysdba" and provide the password.

You can replace the keyword ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION with just WALLET_LOCATION in your file sqlnet.ora.

EWL is only used for transparent encryption of data, but if you want to use the external password store, you will need to use WALLET_LOCATION rather than ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION. However, if you want to use TDE and external repository of password, then make sure that your sqlnet.ora file has two entries ENCRYPTION_WALLET_LOCATION and WALLET_LOCATION

Connect / as sysdba, but TRAN database connection. where can I specify the name of the service in SQLPLUS promt. Kindly give me how solve it because it is the production database. It of down now. It was working fine before, I liquidated her ARCHIVELOG mode.

    But it works:

I think that LOCAL should generally not be set.

    Try:
    C:\ > LOCAL value =
    C:\ > set oracle_sid = XE
    C:\ > sqlplus / as sysdba

    That should do :)

  • Why would running see the 'idle' instance when you connect / as sysdba?

I am a little confused on this one.
I have an oracle SID instance is say, 'FRED '.

I can conect to my local box via sqlplus connect system@fred and do all the things I need. Fred is indeed running.

However, if I go directly to logon to the box, I put the sid
    export ORACLE_SID = fred

    sqlplus/nolog

    Connect / as sysdba

It is for me a 'connected to an idle instance.

    Any ideas on that?

    Thanks in advance,

    Cayenne

    Cayenne,

The post, it seems you're on some * nix platform and on these operating systems, FRED is waaaay different from fred, FreD and all other combinations possible. When you mentioned the 'bad' SID, oracle has simply assumed that the SID said is not started and shows you the State of rest. In other words, this means for oracle, you must always start the db. It would be even if you change SID to rock, tom, robert or same aman too :-).

You must check your environment when you get this TNS error as it is likely due to not having the set ORACLE_SID.  You CAN also connect without going through the set ORACLE_SID, but you must have the tnsnames.ora file configured with your local database information:
