Issue backup - SAN/SAS/Disk-to-Disk
We are currently planning to introduce the VMware with a Dell SAS connected SAN and a couple of physical hosts. A separate physical host is expected to run only with no installed VMware backups, there a SAS card is connected to the San and the backup tape device.
The backup application will be CA Arcserve. With this situation, that we will be able to backup individual files/folder on each virtual computer via integration with VMware? What part of VMware would need to be installed on the backup server to enable this? A separate physical host was chosen so that a disk to disk-to-tape strategy could be used to reduce the backup window.
Is there a better method?
CA Arcserve must be installed on a virtual machine instead?
what you look at is vstorage APIs for data protection. You can read more here, and also you will need reach CA on how to activate and work. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1021175

vSphere vCenter - vCenter 4.0 Update 1 resolution VM issues slow because the disk i/o latency?
My client is slow VM problems that appear to be disk I/O latency on Hitachi storage 1000. I heard in VMware meetings vCenter 4.0 Update 1 solves these problems... without any explanation as to why.
Rumor is that "after working all the angles of the slowness of the virtual machine including vmtools hardware version, latency of storage, etc. called VMware support and advised to get vCenter to U1 to solve the 'known problem' VM performance issues." "U1 fact and problem solved.
It is VMware User meeting and I have no other details.
Customer did not of U1 and having problems of slowness VM believes may be due to the assets/Hitachi 1000 s and favorite paths questions (known to cause problems). Preferred fixed pathing but questions continue.
My limited participation in the issue of troubleshooting in the date limit information available now. It is just an issue if 'known problem' exists and is known to be resolved via U1 vCenter or ESX 4.0 U1?
Not vCenter 4.0 Update 1 solve disk i/o latency issues considered the slow pace of the vm? Why?
All points will be awarded.
that strike! You can use round robin or MRU for active/passive.

Hello to all,
HO a client currently has una configurazione che con singolo e storage FC Dual Controller is al server point to point.
Vorrebbe una soluzione completely nuova:
2 host nuovi
1 SAN in SAS
Così da poter utilizzare HA; HA una essential Plus licenza gia.
Domanda, qual'e seconda vostra esperienza, the best solution by migrare I datastore da una SAN - FC ad una nuova SAN - SAS?
Grazie in pre-empted by the risposta
UNA possibility it could essere questa:
Enter una sul vecchio SAS hba hosts.
Colleghi it nuovo presenti nuove lun storage.
Tramite Storage vMotion migri the VM. Per farlo a tipo caldo ti will serve una licenza Standard. You can use Eval una.
The sposti oppure a freddo.
POI colleghi I have Microsoft host al nuovo storage nuovi. Migri tramite vMotion VM.
Server Elimini it vecchio.
SE non you can take una hba in più, una delle nuove ricicli e fai a cluster a temporary 2.
Spero di essere stato chiaro
Ciao

Need special licenses?
It took your ESX is allowed for this characteristics (essential Plus, Advanced, Enterprise or Enterprise Plus).

Acceptable DELL PS4100xv and SAN HQ disk performance
Hello
I have a Dell PS4100xv with 12 x 600 GB 15K SAS drives configured in RAID 6.
3 three R420 servers are connected via 2 x Power Connect 6224 (bunk).
I'm under ESXi 5.1 U1 with a mixture of SQL virtual computers, file servers, and Proxy servers.
What are the acceptable values for a healthy EQL in terms of latency, disk queue, Ops ARE / s and etc?
Just recently, I transferred a virtual machine to the PS4100XV. The virtual machine has a very slow behavior when using the EQL Dell. This is SQL Server. You have a lot of users complaining about the sluggish behavior.
I need to determine if I have a problem on my PS4100xv in terms of performance before you start to troubleshoot the VMs and ESXi hosts.
These are values measured HQ SAN during the last eight hours.
If I got this right that my own analysis
- The disk queue is ok, since its constantly @ 0. EQL can handle the load and nothing is pending.
- IOPS / s is ok, because the base on the RAID my table evaluator should support 1500 IOPs. Current reading is 742 IOPS / s only.
- To write latency is ok because he is 13 Ms and does not even approach 20 ms.
- Latency of reading, I have a problem? It fits above 20 Ms flat around 25 ms to 40 ms. But not more than is not 40 ms.
- For the size of the IO rate & IO, I don't know if that's a good indicator. What are the acceptable values?
Disk queue depth:
zero (0), the graph shows his dish to zero.
Average READ IOPS:
625
Average WRITE IOPS / s:
117
Total average IOPS / s
742
Latency average reading
30 ms (ms 20 to 40 ms)
Average latency of writing
13 ms (straight line @ 13 ms)
Weighted average
28 ms
E/s average rate readings
26.41 MB/sec
Writing of average IO
2.26 Mbps
Total
28.67 MB/s
Average size of READ i/o
43,30 KB
Average size of i/o WRITE
19.91 KB
Weighted average
39.62 KB
There is no retransmission of packets and the network usage is only 3%.
Would really appreciate the input and recommendations.
What are the acceptable values for a healthy EQL in terms of latency and IOPS / s, queue disk, etc.?
Thank you
Paul
I strongly suggest you open a record of support on any show of related issues. However, with ESXi especially when I see low i/o + latency, the first thing I usually find is that DelayedACK is enabled. Sometimes, large receive the unloading (LRO) can do that as well. Another common problem is not optimize MPIO. And not not not using Round Robin with 3 IOs by path from the default value of 1000 IOs. Or if you have a company or business license + installation Dell EQL MEM. Sharing also several VMDK with one card virtual SCSI inside each virtual machine is another cause of latency. Each virtual machine can have up to four 4 virtual SCSI adapters. With a single adapter, single VMDK (disc) can be active at a given time. If an operation of e/s on the "C:" drive will block your SQL disks.
This link is a PDF that will show you how to fix common incorrect configurations with ESXi + EQL.
en.Community.Dell.com/.../20434601.aspx
HOWEVER. If you find delayed ACK is enabled the process described here probably won't be enough to solve the current connections. With the mode node maint. Remove the address of discovery EQL, remove the "Static discovery" entries EQL volumes. Restart the node. Add discovery addresses but NOT yet rescan. Make sure that login_timeout is 60 years old, DelayedACK is disabled. Then make the new analysis.
Kind regards

How to move large files from backup of a disk to another drive
I have a very large backup file I want to go from a hot spare for the other. When I followed the instructions from Apple to copy with the finder, the operation fails after several hours. Is there a better way to move very large files?
Try using disk/restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition.

Time Machine - keep backups on a disk-without having a full backup?
After that I moved all my old backup data on a new player and liked that I expected Time Machine (TM) just continue where we left it when the smaller drive has been marked as complete. On the contrary, it seems that TM took a full backup take a lot of space for backups that already existed between the data leave the smaller drive?
This kind of destroyed the concept of TM "incremental forever" which I assumed could survive a movement of backup of data from a smaller to a larger drive?
If I missed something along the way I would like to be reminded...

This PC and my laptop Acer crashed at the same time
BlueScreen 1033 mini dump
PC system recovery began F11 and first
did back up files using F11, four DVD
THEN
Installed Norton 360
The previous software support
Tried to RESTORE backup files
#1 DVD does not read, the other disks show WIM files and configuration of Mgr Rec file
Best Buy said that DVD # 1 corrupted. 2 4 read files from disks.
How can I access all my backup files to their previous location.
If the first disk is corrupted, then all bets are open. We could try to use IsoBuster: http://download.cnet.com/IsoBuster/3000-2248_4-10208087.html
to see all that is corrupt. It could be a simple file. Hope the DVD was not a RW, they can cause this kind of thing.

Impossible to detect that deployment of OS T630 SAS disks.
I just bought the T630 and I'm having some trouble detection of hard disks during the deployment of the operating system. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
The material is as follows:
- Adapter H730 pole
- Physical disks: x 2 SAS 300 GB; x 3 SAS 500 GB
- Configuring RAID: RAID 1 (778 GB x 2) - designated for my OS (Win 2008 R2)
- RAID 5 (465 GB x 3) - designated for the storage of data.
I'm starting in the USB bootable flash drive BIOS mode (which works as I loaded the operating system on a test pc) and try to make the lifecycle controller operating system deployment.
It comes after that Installer loads the files I can't see/detect the SAS drives in the configuration of the RAID above.
I broke the mirror and re configured my virtual disk and initialized readers (Status: on line/loan), but are still unable to see them!I need a driver for the pole H730 controller so that the windows installation see the SAS drives? If yes how to deploy the drivers?
Please notify.
Kind regards
DAXimusTT
Yes, you do. Download and run to extract files, then put the files on a flash drive. When Windows finds no drives, click the drivers load and navigate to the location with the drivers.

Hello
All changes made to the computer before the show?
Method 1:
Run the tool on your computer system file checker. You can check the link that will give you information on how to use the System File Checker tool to fix system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7 below:
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833Method 2:
Run a check disk on the computer. Follow the steps.
1. Select command prompt.
2. type chkdsk/r (note: there is a space after chkdsk)
3. restart the computer and allow to run the disk check.Important: When running chkdsk on the drive hard if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area so all available data on this risk to be lost

Backup to esata disks possible?
Hello
I was looking for VSphere essentials, then using Advanced Virtual Acronis to backup my VM & data. Initially, I was going to use Acronis backup to a NAS drive, then there back upward of ESATA disks separated at home.
Is it possible for in fact directly backup me on an ESATA drive connected to the host?
Someone did he do something similar?
Thank you
Graham
Serious SIN is the way to go, with eSATA, you will encounter problems not be do not recognize. even if it is recognized, you will need to format as VMFS before you create a VMDK virtual machine. you need to repeat these steps each time you plug in. so NAS is hassle free approach.
