Issue of license VMware Workstation and VMplayer

Hi all:

Can anyone help to answer this question.  Thank you in advance.

I have a valid license of VMware Workstation 9, can VMware Workstation and the VMplayer separately install on two computers and use them in business environment?

The VMware Player delivered in the Installation of VMware Workstation is not separable from the installation of VMware Workstation or VMware Workstation license.  If you want to run VMware Player by itself then you must download the VMware Player installer, which installs only VMware Player not VMware Workstation.  You cannot cut files VMware Workstation installed between two systems.  So if you want to use it commercially you must buy a license of VMware Fusion!

I hope that now this is clear enough for you to grab!

  • VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V system role before running VMware Workstation

    Ouch. I just started to do some Win Phone 8 and development Win, and all simulators are needed for development.

    This means that a dev to Win8 may only work on their host... I'm sure it would work in a virtual machine.

    Can I make for happy? (Hyper V might have to win here... sigh).

    VMware Workstation and Hyper-V are not compatible. Remove the Hyper-V system role before running VMware Workstation

    Once you install the Hyper-V role on your host, your host is no longer running Windows 8 as the native operating system.  It runs Hyper-V as the native operating system, and Windows 8 runs as OS management within a privileged under Hyper-V VM.  With the Hyper-V role installed, * everything * runs in a virtual machine under Hyper-V.

    So to run a virtual machine under my computer in Windows 8 under Hyper-V, you must be able to run a nested VM.  It's possible with Hyper-V, the hypervisor host, but with the updates in custody, I mentioned above.

  • VMWARE Workstation and VMWARE Player

    I have a simple question: what is the difference between VMWARE Workstation and VMWARE Player.

    I have 2 PCs at home and have Windows Vista Home Edition and Windows XP Pro, I want to install Windows 98, to play older games.

    VMWare has free download, will this work? what I need?

    THX

    I used the two products but I prefer VMware products for my virtualization needs, which neither include playing games.

    In all sincerity, if you already have Windows 98 SE and the game sitting there, then I was going just to download VMware Player and test it.  You could probably do that more quickly then go through all that.

    If the Alien vs Predator game talk you is indicated to Aliens versus Predator (video game) and its system requirements, then I would Imaging VMware Player, that's all you need to give it a go and if you don't like not the performance or you can't find a VMware Player fairly easy to work with then try Microsoft virtualization product.

  • Issue of license of workstation trading at SSD drive

    I am a newbie to VM workstation and enjoy my development on my laptop Lenovo laboratories.

    Having recently added a second SSD I now want to move it's the startup disk on my laptop computer host.

    If I do a complete reinstallation doesn't this invalidate the license with VMWARE?

    If not, is there a better way I can instant somehow my current laptop build and then reinstall it on the new drive or is it simply impossible.

    BTW my current drive is 330GB with a recovery partition, whereas the new SSD 128 GB.

    Thank you

    Cardy

    I'm sure it is possible to move the existing install on it, but it would be just as easy to re-run the installer of the OS. Personally, I prefer to rebuild in these scenarios.

  • Is it possible to license VMware workstation without an internet connection?

    I have a Linux server that is heavy to move and from a connection internet on which I need to install VMware workstation. I have a license key. Is it possible to install and license of VMware workstation without being connected to the internet?

    If so, how is that possible?

    Thanks for any help,

    on a host with inet download the bundle with tools - put on a CD.

    on the isolated just host install then from CD and enter the serial number when he asked

    you only need inet connection in case you download a package without the vmware-tools

  • VMWare Workstation and Windows 7 64 bit

    Someone had problems with VMWare Workstation running Windows 7 64 bit? My computer hangs when creating the virtual machine guests. I also have VirtualBox running very stable with Windows 7. I was wondering if anyone has had problems? VMWare has a new version of 7 who suppose to be stable with Windows 7. I am skeptical. Your comments are welcome.

    "There is a time and place for that. The time is... Never. You can figure out the place on your own.

  • VMWare Workstation and HP desktop computers and laptops

    I hope that there is a list of HP desktop computers and laptops where I can use VMWARE (Workstation).  In particular, I have a Pavilion Elite e9180t and would like to install VMWARE and run 64-bit windows vista or windows 7 and a Linux distribution.  Shop HP and HP Support people were no help in answering this question. In fact, people said THAT NO support is impossible.  Since HP has a relationship with VMWARE, I can't believe that the answer is absolutely no, can't do it.

    I am too much in the market for a new laptop and would like to know can I use VMWARE on a HP laptop too.

    Everyone else is off this way?

    Thank you

    I'll answer my own question!  I installed VMWare Workstation on my e9180t.  I'm on Ubuntu and Centos inside the virtual machine.  In order to run the 64-bit linux distos, I had to enable VT support in the BIOS.

  • The host VMware workstation and multi-core CPU

    Apologies if this has already been answered, but all my research to turn questions about processors how can specify in a virtual machine. It's not what I'm after here.

    I want to know is the use of VMware workstation (v6 and v7) is available on a multi-core worksation host physical cores.

    I have a scenario where we have several virtual machines containing sensitive coding environments. The material that they are on is a little old and we don't have the time or the knowledge to recreate systems (a combination of Matlab, DSpace and some custom coding). Our only option (and we did it for a couple with success so far) is to create virtual machines of these workstations.

    Which is absolutely essential for us is the material we choose VMs on host. Virtual machines will use simple/double/processors virtual.

    In order to choose the correct hardware platform, I need to know if VMware workstation is running an instance of the virtual computer within a single processor (in this case is the reduced performace?), or if there are multithreaded and make the most of the hardware it will run on.

    (We are not welcome, never more 2 virtual machines at the same time)

    Any suggestions on material would be appreciated also. I think of something based around a core of Xeon 4-6 with 12-16 GB of RAM.

    Thank you very much

    Nick

    Correct, for laboratory/debugging and interaction VM Workstation is pretty good.

  • VMware workstation and ReadyNAS to store the virtual machine

    Hello

    I just bought a Netgear Readynas box for home (Readnas RND2000 XRAID SIN) and it seems like a big box to keep a backup of my critical data and flow data and video music.

    Now that will take about 100 GB in space and I'll always have weird to play with 400 GB and it made me think if I host all my test VM I created using VMware workstation, for the moment I use a local computer, but its lack of disk space, I tried to put the virtual computer on an external drive and performance is ok on it as well but for me , it would be ideal if I could store them on the readynas and open them through VM workstation.

    Of course put it on a NAS box could be problematic, has anyone tried this on one of these boxes ReadyNAS? its probably not designed for this type of data and traffic, but if anyone has got, it works, I would be interested to hear comments.

    One of the potential problems in my view is I'll be going through a wireless router with a 4 port 100 mb go and see that as a problem, it replaces a gigabit switch would make a huge difference, or would it still slow?

    I would appreciate any advice on this.

    Thank you

    I'll guess that your external hard drives are USB.  In this case my answer is Firewire.  I run several of my virtual machines to external Firewire drives very good success.  While I ran a few virtual machines from USB, USB just isn't the sustained performance of Firewire.  This is the case on my Macbook Pro and my HP Pavilion (with built-in Firewire.)

    That said, even if I don't have any experience with the ReadyNAS, I use a Windows Server as NFS storage to an ESX Server.  The gigabit switch is almost a necessity.  Possible about 100 MB, but significantly better on gigabit.  In addition, the link of the ESX to Windows NFS is on a physically separate local network segment, so I don't have any problems with the network traffic slows down the virtual machine.  I have not tried Workstation with storage NFS, as I always got Firewire on all my machines so I kept for most of the virtual machine from the network.  YMMV, of course, but I suspect that you will have to keep the rest of the traffic network in mind if you can not create a separate network for NFS storage.  (for example: no internet surfing on the host while the virtual machine is running.)

  • How to configure vmware workstation and server Suse 10 as operating system prompted

    Hi, I installed vmware workstation 6.5 on vista and Suse 10 as guest operating system.  I keep Suse as default (without any network configuration).  I modified the default vmware gateway 192.168.2.1 keep even as window by default gateway settings. I also changed to the subnet to 192.168.2.0.  The IP address is replaced by 192.168.2.128. IP address of my Vista is 192.168.2.4 and DNS Server 4.4.4.1 and 4.4.4.2.

    I tried to ping between host and guest, and comments to the host, but still received the error of "destination host unreachable". It does not matter using host only or NAT mode.

    All Documents available? All advice? What do I have to configure Suse network. ?

    If the IP address of comments has the correct value you use VMnet8, not VMnet1. It should work, but this isn't the network "host-only '. That's what I need the .vmx file for. If this indicates that the virtual NETWORK adapter is configured as 'host-only' the IP of comments is wrong. It must be 192.168.17.x in this case.

    However... try to get a ping of the IP address, not name. Depending on the configuration you have posted, you should try to ping the 192.168.30.1 customer and 192.168.30.128 host. Don't forget that cannot work if your client is configured to use instead of VMnet1 VMnet8. If it is really configured to use VMnet1 you must change the IP of comments that I wrote above.

    If the host and the guest have active firewall disable them for testing purposes.

    Furthermore, by default, VMware installs a DHCP for VMnet1 and VMnet8 service. So if this service is still running on your host computer, you can assign the DHCP client and he gets the appropriate automatically for the network IP address.

    I don't no how to open the *.vmx in text format.  I noticed that vmnet1 IP address on the side of the BACK is 192.168.17.1 but side comments, it is established as 192.168.20.0.

    It is a text file. Just open in an editor and copy and paste it or attach the file to your next post.

  • Issue of license VMWare ESXi 3.5

    Hi guys,.

    I was wondering if someone could help me with the best course of action here.  About 4 months ago, I ordered a Dell with ESXi server on it (internal on a USB key).  I want just the basic... now for free... features of ESXi.  However, it came pre-installed with what I think, it is licensed to the company.  I have no idea even how to say to look at anything, if this is still true.  However, since I'm busy and I have come back to this project, I learned earlier that I can no longer starm of the BONES of my comments.  He tells me I don't have enough licenses.  The license that has been already entered under 'Configuration' was previously registered with Dell.  I registered and got a new one on the site here and it before but I have the same problem.  Should I reinstall from a new image to fix this?  Is it possible to just go back to the basic edition?  I didn't need all the extra features, I guess it is.  I just want to run the OS indepened most of the time.

    Thank you

    Steven

    Ok. I would have noticed it in the first place. We will try this.

    I don't know if you have enabled ssh on your ESXi. Otherwise try to get the following steps on the server console or remote access (such as the DRAC, ILO or what have you), after you set the ESX Server in evaluation mode using the VI Client.

    Connect to the ESXi box as root.

    Go to/etc/vmware.

    Delete the license.cfg and vmware.lic files, you can make a backup copy if you want in the first place.

    Restart the service mgmt-vmware.

    Return to the VI client and activate the license of the ESX Server with the key you have for the site.

    Let me know if it helps.

  • (UPDATED) Workstation and VMPlayer 12.1.0 build-3272444 extended vesa DEPRECATED behavior at boot time configuration (hardware related 12?)

    It was a BIG PROBLEM for me for a few hours, so it might be for others. Maybe this post will try to help other users with the same problem and give advice to the developers to change this - in my opinion - absolutely behavior deprecable.

    As in the topic, the problem is exactly that,

    Advanced considerations.

    I like use resolutions vesa extended with all my guests properly and quickly set up my screen resolution of comments at boot time machines.

    With the Linux hosts I use Grub configuration for the glxmode Installer file to my chosen resolution (usually, I want my guests to start at 1440 x 900) and I use grub glxpayload option to prevent it from console for the graphical user interface.

    Everything worked as expected until I upgraded my virtual equipment invited to the last version (12) and I've upgraded to the latest VMware Tools comments (version 10.0.5 - 3228253).

    To cut it short, after this two tasks (upgrades and new VMware Tools upgrade of hardware), ALL my guests keep in order to ignore the resolution glxmode of Grub and they started in VGA mode, keep for the entire boot and me ending with a graphical machine set up in VGA resolution :-( Really disappointing. GRUB prompt showed me - using the command vbeinfo - bios extended vesa modes were not supported.

    I use xorg.conf.d correctly the program installation of the X resolution (in the case of Linux guests), or have drag - and drop to resize screen when the OS and VMware Tools have been correctly loaded after startup was not complited, so I didn't yet still VGA (or all modes Vesa Bios "not extensive") at the start in console mode.

    What I did to solve the problem.

    I then studied the question and find the culprit. ALL my configuration machines (VMX files) virtual hosts have changed something (Virtual Hardware 12? New VMware Tools?) thereby three strings completely NOT WANTED AND NOT REQUIRED by me:

    vmotion.checkpointFBSize = "4194304".

    vmotion.checkpointSVGAPrimarySize = "33554432.

    svga.guestBackedPrimaryAware = 'TRUE '.

    I have not idea that are properly those lines, then I finally found - and it was a relief - that simply evolution:

    svga.guestBackedPrimaryAware = 'TRUE '.

    TO

    svga.guestBackedPrimaryAware = "FALSE".

    solved the problem and my guests again as before respected the glxmode configured in the Grub configuration file and were able to start any non-standard Vesa Bios mode. This was also, of course, confirmed by the command vbeinfo at the Grub prompt.

    Now I ask: why Developer (or are considering it was not me?) change the behavior of such a delicate setting without explanation?

    In my humble OPINION, if it is intended, VMware developers should go back to the old behavior where svga.guestBackedPrimaryAware (existed before? I don't have reallyknow) it is FALSE by default!

    If it's a bug, please fix it :-(((

    UPDATE: it's even worse than the supposed Iwas was :-(((sur certaines machines, je n'a pas encore découvrir sur quelle base, c'est encore pire!)) After the end of the parameter

    svga.guestBackedPrimaryAware = "FALSE".

    It is automatically (!) is:

    svga.guestBackedPrimaryAware = "TRUE" :-(((

    Now the problem is: how to block this change? Yes, I can always change read-only VMX file, then I guess there is another parameter controlling the guest VM configuration the automatic changes! If you have an idea...

    Message modificato da jtayeye spelling check :-)

    Sorry, I think that the specific configuration option changed in recent versions.

    Try to set the following configuration option:

    svga.minVRAMSize = 8388608

    That should guarantee a minimum of 8 MB of VIDEO memory for patterns VESA you are trying to define.

  • VMWare Workstation 12 and 18 of Linux Mint (Ubuntu 16.04) and vmware tools or open-vmware-tools

    I created a new virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 12.1.1 build-3770994 with a guest OS from Linux Mint 18 (which is built on top of Ubuntu 16.04). I have two monitors on my system, the two 2560 x 1440. I am unable to get this virtual machine Linux Mint 18 to cover all of my two monitors when I disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my vm settings, I get an error. I have another Linux Mint 17 VM running on the same VMWare Workstation 12 on the same host machine from Windows 10 and it is able to expand on my two monitors very well with "Accelerate 3D graphics" disabled, but he does not open-vmware-tools.

    I have read instructions telling me to install open-vm-Tools-Office in this guest operating system of Linux Mint 18. I did it. Then I restart the guest operating system. When starting, I can click on 'Enter full screen mode' in my menu of VMWare Workstation, and the guest OS has a monitor as expected. When I then click on "Cycle multiple monitors", I get the following error. "The virtual machine could not be changed to the selected screen layout. If you add a monitor to the host computer, you must turn off and turn on the virtual machine to use this monitor. »

    I can optimize my VM to automatic adjustment, only one of my two screens, but not both. I tried to uninstall and reinstall open-vm-tools, open-vm-tools-desktop and restart. I tried to use /vmware-tools-distrib/vmware-install.pl's original vmware tools and who does not work either.

    In my vmware.log, I get these two lines that occur when I get the above error.

    When I activate "Accelerate 3D graphics" with the configuration described above, I am able to use both of my monitors. Why is this the case?

    I think remember having to disable "Accelerate 3D graphics" in my Linux Mint 17 comments vm because it would crash randomly. I try to run this VM Linux Mint 18 with 3D acceleration and see if it crashes, but why is there a difference with spanning multiple monitors?

    Thank you.

    I didn't experience this problem for a few weeks. I don't have a definitive answer to my original problem.

    I installed Mate instead of cinnamon 3 to my MINT 18. Then, I created a new VM with Ubuntu Gnome 3 16.04 running as the OF. I did have problems with both approaches. I also tried using Firefox as my main browser instead of Chrome, as I read that Chrome can have problems of memory. It could be a combination of several of these changes that have allowed me to work without problems.

    Knowing what I know now, I think the move away from cinnamon 3 is what seems to have fixed my problems. I can certainly say that you use Firefox consumes less memory, as I can monitor the monitor system under Ubuntu. Chrome would eventually eat all my system memory, that I could see. The extent of the why? I'm not sure at this point.
