It's time to build a new machine?

I get the build bug now that new Nvidia cards are coming.  I would have preferred to hold off for as long as I can and let prices naturally come down, but recently (even using first 12 items) I have questions perfoirmance.  I recently started playing with AE CC and saying it's slow is an understatement.  It of time to upgrade or is anyway to improve and save my current rig.  I'm not a gamer and honestly I always use Photoshop CS3 because CC is super slow as well.  Any suggestion welcome and thanks in advance...

Ive asked this in the AE forums as well, but I actively use Photoshop, AE and Premiere Elements and really want to have a platform that can skillfully executed all the

The first thing to check is the temperature of the CPU: If the temperature of 54 ° C is idling (as opposed to slot a load), you have a heat problem, which is usually caused by a thermal installed incorrectly heatsink cooler / CPU fan. In this case, when you try to do something to all the bosom of Premiere Elements, this CPU temperature springs to near 100 ° C and accelerators, then the clock speed way, way down. At idle, the CPU temperature should be only about 30 ° C, 54 ° C No.

  • Construction of a new Machine first, looking for an entry

    Hi all

I am building a new Machine of first, and I'm looking at some of the entries from which direction to head in.

My main question is what is more advantageous for a first machine. Less cores clocked more high, with more power CUDA, or more, lower the cores clocked, with less CUDA.

    Here are my two courses:

1 chip to Intel 3930 k Sandy Bridge six core clocked at 4.5 ghz

    2 x Nvidia 680 GTX in SLI

    32 GB of Ram

    256 GB SSD

    2 x 1 TB WD Black Raid 0

    1 x 3 TB WD Green Backup

    or

2 six main Intel E-1660 to 3.3 ghz

    1 Nvidia GTX 680

    32 GB of Ram

    256 GB SSD

    2 x 1 TB WD Black Raid 0

    1 x 3 TB WD Green Backup

First take advantage of the SLI?

Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Haven't seen that any criterion of reference again, but wise (Bang-for-the-buck) RE-ENGINEERING, E-1660 to around $1 K each, as well as the additional cost of the cost of the motherboard, memory and the lack of overclockability makes the Xeon solution very unattractive. See also http://ppbm5.com/DB-PPBM5-2.php

    I guess a single K 3930 to 4.6 GHz will outperform always a double 1660, and that's why I came up with this: http://ppbm6.com/Planning.html

Yes you can, you may need to reactivate by phone if:

    Mathias,

Looks good, by making two comments:

1 consider going for 12 GB of memory.

2 consider going for the GTX 480. There are more that double carrots at half price with a higher clock speed and will, according to some rumors, certified in Q3.

  • Windows 7 Pro Full Retail Edition - building a new 64-bit machine.

I installed and registered Win 7 Pro on a 32-bit computer. I have the full retail version, which includes a 32 and 64-bit installation cd

Now, I want to build a machine separate 64 bit of all new components. I would like to install the 64 bit, Win 7 Pro just to the point where I can check that the construction of material and install Win 7 Pro worked.  I should be able to do it from the 64-bit installation CD.

When a system of work is done, I can remove my 32-bit computer, install the software on my 64-bit computer and switch the recording of my 32-bit to my new install Win 7 64-bit.

When I did my 32-bit installation on my current machine, I think I got a 30-day grace period to register for my 32-bit installation of Windows 7.

This strategy works? Is there a grace period of 30 days? Who should I contact at Microsoft to move to the record?

    Ed Perry

It would be helpful to know what version of W7's retail, you have (?)

For example, I have W7 Pro retail.

The COA license key is good for installation on my computer or any other 'one' computer.

With retail W7 pro, I can use it to upgrade to a new computer, if my old one died or I just want a new computer (the old OS is more usable however).

If the HARD disk drive dies I can replace the HARD drive and reinstall without worries.

I can install 32-bit and in a year I can change to 64-bit (and vice versa if I want). There is no time limit on this for 30 days.

There is a period of 30 days at the entrance of the key to the COA on the 32 bit or 64 bit OS, and not on the ability to switch.  32-bit is certainly 'old technology' now and also really limits your choice of 3 GB usable RAM Max!

If your building a new computer, see my article "pinned" Tech PC first about 'breadboarding' a new build :)

New generation of computer? Test the material first.

  • Error when installing SSO 5.5 on the new Machine

    I tried to install VMware vCenter Single Sign-On VMware-VIMSetup-all 5.5.0 - 5.5.0 - 1312299.iso, and like others, I have a problem. I want to install on a VM Windows Server Datacenter 2008 R2 SP1 64 bit new.

The first time I ran the installer, I display Single Sign-On prerequisite vCenter and realized that my network on the new machine settings were a bit off. So I canceled the installation program, fixed my network, started the Setup program again and this time I got the message "DNS resolution is effective."

Then I continued my way. I select "vCenter Single Sign-On for your first server vCenter Server", it starts to install, the State can "configure SSO components... "and then it shows" restoration of action: ", then"vCenter Single Sign-On the Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. "All attempts to install later resulted in the same thing.

I've seen some solutions proposed elsewhere, and I've tried:

    • Run (VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.5.0-1312299.iso)\Single Sign-On\prerequisites\VMware-python.msi (tried right click menu: repair and also uninstall then install))
    • In 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc. \VMware Infrastructure', there is no SSOServer

I have attached vim-sso-msi and vminst.log of %TEMP%. I also found a vminst.log of a directory longer % TEMP %; I joined who as vminst - Temp.log too, in the case where it is useful.

    I got vminst - C:\Users\Administrator.MCI\AppData\Local\Temp Temp.log

Does anyone have any ideas on what I can try, or any other information that might help?

So I think that I just found out the real reason, it was a failure. In the above-mentioned documentation, they say that; "" "^-are not valid characters in a password. But they missed a character: space. I was using a space character in my password.

I tried on the setup of a bunch of times. When one of the invalid characters above is used, Setup will continue anyway. And then launching a 1326 in this another log file that I mentioned. Using a space does the same thing. And it's not as if they are not checking the password at all. If you do not meet the complexity requirements in their documentation, then you get this notice:

I don't know why they accept invalid characters in the installation program. And I don't know why they missed listing the space character as a character not valid in their documentation. It is an ASCII character, after all (0x20).

I tried a few other passwords a long time ago, but I think that was before found this documentation, so I used one of the other characters that are not valid. Or maybe I used another invalid character who is undocumented. If the space is not documented as an invalid character, so who knows how many other invalid characters are?

And so I say to all those who believe that they have the same problem I did:

First of all, make sure that it is the same problem. Check that you have found an error code 1326 in the other file vminst.log, located in a directory above %TEMP%. If you can't find a 1326, then you probably have a different problem.

Then, try other passwords. Do not use the documented invalid characters. And keep in mind that there may be other invalid characters without papers.

The password doesn't have to be the same as the password for the local Windows administrator account. Just, it cannot contain invalid characters without papers.

I hope that I was clear because I am confused and help or direction will be greatly apprciated.

I would opt for configuration 1.

Use the Raid0 of 3 x 500 for a fixed return for 8 or 12 GB file, cache of media, previews and rendering files.

Use the D drive for projects and exports and the E drive for your support.

  • AE CS4, plugin Keylight, rendering time and specification of the machine

I do a show which takes 15-20 minutes.  We use a wall of chroma chroma (green) and various images and graphics in the background.  It's a show of several camera.

The chroma chroma Keylight for AE plugin is amazing. The finished file looked very good, but it really took a lot of time to render.  More than 25 minutes for a test of a minute sequence.  If I had to make it 15-20 minutes, it could take all day.  Is this normal for these long there rendered moments on clips matched with this plugin?

My machine is an older machine.  Win XP SP3, HP/compaq dc7600, Duo core, both 3.4 GHz, 3 GB of RAM.  If I had to update this machine, which would be optimal for the shortest rendering time?

I found a quantity of decent info on how to use the plugin, but not big thing on recommended card machine or times normal.  Where can I find more information on the card of what machine are needed to take full advantage of tools and plugins of EI?

    Thank you

MMH, Yes, it's still ambiguous to advise on the matter. For your business a Core2Duo should be just fine. Just make sure it is later a (8600 E currently). I wouldn't bother with a Core2Quad in your situation - if there is no hope of improvement, what be soon, it's a bit pointless to invest in a more expensive processor and motherboard. Given the fast-paced development cycles, you buy a computer for the next 2 or 3 years and already in a few months to not consider any worthy material updates. At best, so I'd go for a new AMD Phenom II X 4 because it's much cheaper while offering better performance (current quads of intel are a little behind). Yet, would be exaggerated, especially if we consider that "crunchy" all can be more important for you, to get fast feedback while you work more predictable rendering times. The performance by heart is less about quad systems, they burn only if you use the hearts of all time, that your proposed combination would not. AE and many plug-ins don't are not especially optimized in terms of multithreading and if you use the option to make several images at the same time would compensate, is another matter. Definitely get these 8 GB of RAM and Vista 64 Business or Ultimate, so you can max on the memory of EI usage and are on the right side, when future versions are going to 64-bit. For the graphics card, settle on a GeForce normal 275 / 285, not a multi-GPU as 295 card. With regard to the suggestions of the brand - Dell and HP are trustworthy, but not the cheapest. I could recommend other brands are specific to the Germany / Europe, so he can't help you. also, if you know a good computer guy, think about him having to build a custom machine. This will shave a little money here and there, because you can order the individual components of those who sell at the lowest price. I went like that with my Core7i and was thus able to save almost 500 Euros compared to these sellers of stock...

  • HP Pav 23-q105na AiO: perform a clean install on new machine

    Hello

I would like to do a clean install on a new machine of all-in-one HP I have and would like to know about activation of a couple things.

The machine comes through OEM Activation 3.0 (OA3) or by Product Activation Windows (WPA). The reason why I would like to know this, is that once the own installation took place, automatically Windows know that the machine has a license valid Windows 10 and will be so it turned on once he gets online?

Please note that when I got the machine, I let it install the version of Windows 10 comes with the machine, and made sure it has been activated. (recorded with the MS servers)

I will also be wiping the part of the resumption of training as well during this process.

    Kind regards

    Richard

    Hi TheOldMan,

I have now completed the clean install on the machine and it activated fine. I had media via Windows Media creation tool.

He activated properly, so now just re - installs all the necessary drivers / programs again. I have another machine I boaught at the same time, so now do the same for this one. I used ShowKeyPlus to check and verify my key before starting.

    Thanks for the reply but.

  • Can I migrate vista windows of a dead to a new machine?

Recently, the hard disk went on a laptop I bought in 2007.  I had been running Windows Vista.

To replace it, I'm Mid-building a new PC, and I'm price of BONES.  Like almost everyone, I would like to avoid paying the full cost for windows 7.  So, while it may be a long shot, my question is this: is it possible to switch the license for Vista my old machine, death has a brand new (for the purposes of backup and just get the W7 upgrade)?
Sorry if this is silly and my thanks!

If your copy of Vista comes with the laptop, then no, you cannot migrate to another computer.  Windows OEM copies are related to the motherboard of the computer, they are provided with and may not be used on another.  If you bought a copy of Vista retail, then you can transfer.

If you create a custom computer, you will need to purchase a copy of the full license of Windows for that.  Do not buy an OEM System Builder copy from a retailer like Amazon or NewEgg.  OEM SB packs are for custom builders, selling computers to customers.  A person who built his own computer is not a builder of sytem as defined by the Microsoft license program.  Such a person is a do-it-yourselfer.  The correct license is retail.

Don't buy Windows 7 on a discounter in line, the Amazon Marketplace or eBay.  The internet is full of counterfeits produced in China.  They are very good imitations, as you can see in this video:

As long as what you bought is a "Commercial" and not an OEM of Windows 7 version, Yes, you can install and activate on your new PC.  However given that the product key has already been activated on your older PC, this time you will need to activate by phone.

strictly speaking, you can install version 7. But since it cannot be activated this is of no use in practice. In any case would not work on modern systems.
