VolumeIcon.icns and background for example. Basically, it seemed something to tell readers that they are on a Mac system.

  Earlier today, I solved this problem. It seems that someone (probably me or my son) XPlay 3 was installed on the system. For some reason, this included a copy of MacDrive. I think that MacDrive caused the problem by making the part Apple Mac of the CD to be the only part that was visible to my system. I uninstalled XPlay 3 and everything works fine now.
