Lack of crude Windows Update SOLVED

Redefined in short problem: no single update it has been the work stoppage.  The system essentially choked on 200 + updates & automated attempts went for 4 hours at a time.

Optimal solution.  Manual update, in small doses.  Finally seemed about 60 MB worth.

Problem updates 1 taking sometimes 2 hours has never been resolved.  Sometimes, it would take 20 minutes

Original content of message left here.  Its largely irrelevant, but the fact that I did a clean install & updates there more than he could manage.

Windows Update colossal fail as illustrated in the history of the update 30/01/2016.  BACKGROUND. On about 01/09/2016, I did a clean install after virus trashed video card a few seconds on the use of Mozilla & Mozilla visit sites with multiple windows that I never asked.  Save some files but removed most of them.  Some people saved the files before I could fully virus checking due to the lack of internet use.  AVG found no virus before video card be trashed.  Kapersky found virus or rather the hacks in the folder temp of the Mozilla browser.

One installs own repeated after update fails.  Router died under warranty after that I have cut the power by mistake by pulling a power cord from wall outlet.  A PC shop & had replaced video card.  At this point, the update then the singular problem disappeared.

Almost a fortnight of use limited computer like no internet.  I was able to use the notebook & Windows Media Player only.

28/01/2016 obtained replacement router.  Windows, seemed ok of memory update.  Kapersky anti-virus installed trial version.  Kapersky update & ran full scan of the system and on attached USB drive as soon as POSSIBLE before going to anywhere on the internet.

Only applications that I have installed are VLC Media Player, Adobe Acrobat Reader & Open Office.

update 30/01/2016 went 2 hours minimum, failed & updates have been canceled for another 2 hours.

Found WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.  It takes a long time until I thought he hung.  Apparently, he was partially successful.  In the performer several times produced a list of the errors he claimed he fixed with fixed errors.  1st realization was initially fixed/no 1 to 4.  He executed several times and it seems to repeat the same conclusions, including the things he claims are fixed.

Fixed errors & error set report.

Fixed final error is 0 x 80070057 for which I found the following:

running 'Windows Update Standalone install' and I have a progression non-barre "search for updates on this computer...". »

«Fix for Windows (KB947821) (update 1 of 1)...» "worked

Windows Update is automatic & fails after 4-5 hours & am forced to make manual

Always have a LONG list of updates failed after the last test.  I ask for some more help not bound not to each individual article in the Knowledge Base, but something together that seems to be the cause.  Then I could have considerably less failed installs & can start to examine them individually.  I don't understand why a clean install would not fix all the problems, at least that this Virus (s) ransacked other components.

I learned that I can manually update a number at the same time - 20 both seem to take the same as 1.  200, it was too much.

It has been a success & he'll sometimes also short as 20 minutes for several updates, other times, it takes 2 hours for 1 day.  Original message changed to better present the problem and the possible solution.  SOLVED

  • KB2442962, KB982214 and KB2345886 updates fail in code 800b0100 and 8007065E. Upgrade system preparation tool does not resolve. Windows Update Troubleshooter does not solve.

Hello. I recently acquired a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium x 64. At first startup, I ran Windows update. As usual, a large number of updates have been downloaded and installed. Reboot, Windows update run and failed with the failure of the code 800b0100 and 8007065E. By clicking on the error codes led to a suggestion that 800b0100 could be solved by downloading and running the "System Update Readiness Tool" (KB947821). The help text for 8007065E says nothing useful.

I have downloaded and run the tool preparation system update, but after that Windows Update has failed once again.

Deselecting all individual updates but I finally managed to get everything except three to install. The other three are KB2442962, KB982214 and KB2345886.

I ran the system update tool several times.

I ran the "Windows Update Troubleshooter". He noted that he has made no changes to the system.

I downloaded the updates individually and run them manually.

    They do not always succeed.

    Grateful for any suggestion.

    Hey, Marc P

Thanks a lot for your offer to help. If I had checked this thread earlier I would have taken you to this topic.

However after trying various other ineffective solutions proposed by MS supports (such as installation of downloads in 'safe mode', which produces the error message "this service cannot be started in safe mode") I ended up doing a reinstall instead of the BONE. That fixed it.

Thanks for all your attempts to help.

  • KB954430 continues to appear in Windows Update, Error Message for lack of Log File during manual re - install

I followed several other discussions about the inability to install this update, but I succumbed.

My problem started when I did a system restore to solve a problem with a newly installed program.

Under update history, windows update is of the opinion that this update has been successfully installed several times.

The 954430.log log file is not present in my windows directory.

The update is not present in the list of installed updates.

I moved msxml4.dll and msxml4r.dll in the system32 directory.  When I try to reinstall KB954430 manually, the following error message is received: "error opening installation log file.  Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable. »

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the attempt to help Umesh P.  Went before your answer.
Something I've done has solved the problem, if I'm not 100% of the exact solution.

So, I found some of these random number files that contains kb954430 log files in the home directory of my swap file partition.  I deleted these.

I tried to reinstall manually, it still gave me the same "log file" error as described in my post above.  Then, I tried to install it via the automatic update service.  Then, he stated that the update was not necessary.  The update kept bugging me on this subject, but finally, after a reboot or two, I noticed he had stopped to ask.
My computer seems to work now, as far as I know, although I do not have the patch installed in my list of updates, and the msxml dll never came back.  Is there a chance that the patch was never installed and he abandoned?

After having problems with my computer at startup, I finally decided to try to use my Windows XP CD to repair my file system; However, it seems that the CDs partically reinstall some older files. Examples: the browser I was using was Internet Explorer 8, I have been using Windows XP Service Pack 2. After you use the Windows XP disk to try one the files system and stabilise my system, my computer was back to IE 6 and Windows XP Service Pack 2 was missing altogether. Like, I ordered this drive Windows Sp2 from Microsoft (to their urgering), on a CD a few years ago, I reinstalled it from my original disc. To try to solve the problem with my computer screen constantly enter engery saving as the system mode has been started, it seems that I deleted inadvertently or otherwise destroyed the Windows Update files must verify the authenticity of my software! Any help that anyone can provide with this problem will be more appreciated!

    Hi William

Windows update no longer works for systems with SP2 or less. To check your systems service pack level, click on Start, run and type Winver in the Run dialog box. If your system does not already have Windows XP SP3 installed, download and install XP SP3 from the link below. (Ignore warnings about professionals of computing and network facilities).

2 have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

  • Fix for common problems associated with Windows Update repeatedly trying to solve the same problem

When the machine running Windows Update on a Windows XP Professional (SP3 with IE8), the information for the download of the ActiveX bar does not appear. Tried to run the Fix for "Common problems with Windows Update" and it says "Windows Update components must be repaired. Difficulty-it short, reports of success, "Found Themes" saying "one or more components of Windows Update are configured incorrectly". However, still unable to download updates from the information bar does not appear. Repeating the difficulty happens with exactly the same problem i.e. reports etc. but no success still can not download the ActiveX on Windows Update since the information bar never shows up.

At tried all the suggested solutions I can find for the reported similar problems such as checking the downloads ActiveX security settings, reset Internet Explorer settings, and even resetting Windows Update (Articlce ID 971058) components. Still no luck. Therefore, I am unable to manually check and download updates of Windows security.

Otherwise my PC works well. Norton Internet Security is installed but did not prevent Windows Update to work on another PC I have. The information bar appears sometimes for other downloads, and it doesn't seem to be a problem on the Windows Update page.

Please can you help. Thank you.

No, I'm not not first uninstall IE8 (or IE7) before proceeding with the repair facility...

Long history, technical, short version: do not uninstall IE8 (and/or IE7) before doing a repair installation (Windows XP only!) leaves the two Internet Explorer and Windows in a State of "confused" or "broken". Your only recourse now is a clean install of Windows (after backup your personal data).

No, another repair facility won't solve the problem - even if you uninstall IE8 beforehand.

Follow the instructions in this post of mine in another forum (to-the-letter & in order! ) to restore your computer to a State safe & functional: http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=44636

If you need additional assistance with the clean install, please start a new thread in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-system

Note: The computer must NOT be connected to the internet or local networks (i.e. other computers) in its current state. All your personal data (e.g., banking online & passwords credit card) must be considered at risk, if not already compromised.

Wish I had better news for you.  Good luck!

PS: So that registry cleaners can solve some problems (temporarily, at least), they are not & cannot fix what caused the problem. Compare to treat a broken leg with a stick and a couple of BandAids.

  • How can I fix error "changed default location for Windows Update files" that Fit-It notes several times, but does not solve?

Using Windows XP Home Edition SP3, IE8, and Firefox 13.

Used several times to install and MS Fit-It tool to try to fix Windows Update so that will download the updates of high priority.  4 four security updates not always settle.  Fix - It tool shows that "one or more Windows Update are configured incorrectly" and that it has been fixed (run 10 times).  He also pointed out "where Windows Update stores data has changed and needs to be repaired", but offers no solutions to fix this problem.  Cannot find any reference to this in the KB or MS answers.

Is it possible to repair this problem and it will make a difference by allowing for installing security updates?  I talked to Ms. telephone and e-mail do not install security updates, but they say I have to pay $99 to get this issue fixed MS Update.  I thought I read that security patches are supposed to be supported without charge.
