Laptop starts up. Using Windows XP. Possible virus.

Is anyway to remove a virus from a laptop myself.  I have a Dell Latitude c510 using Windows XP.  Can not get it started. Just keep to this unknown hardward message prevented windows from start, then it counts down to 30 seconds to restart and the same thing/message happen again. D & lc = 1033 & urlnum = 0

skee40,
It could be the hard drive, but it could also just be that the OS was corrupted too badly to start properly.  If you have a recovery disk or the XP disk, then you can perform a repair installation, see if that fixes the problem.  If it's a recovery OEM installation of repair disk may not be an option and you may need to do a factory restore (which will erase the drive).  You should consult the manufacturer of PC on the food options they provide. Somehow when I installed my HP Envy, I was able to get the Favorites of my Dell laptop which uses Windows Vista in Favorites on my desire that has Windows 8.1. Now, they are not there and I don't know how to recover. Tried the system restore, but no luck.

    Hello:

If you are referring to the favorite links to Internet Explorer, it's what I do...

Get a USB and navigate to your Vista username account and copy the Favorites folder on the flash drive.

Plug the USB on your new PC W8.1, go in your user name folder and copy the Favorites folder in this window and let it overwrite the existing Favorites folder, as you see here.

After the Vista Favorites folder replaces the empty Favorites W8.1 folder, you should be all set when you open Internet Explorer on your new PC.

When you get to the part where you have the possibility to search on Windows update, take it.

If your computers are running all Vista or Windows 7 or 8, set up a group home on the computer that hosts the printer, preferably one that will always be connected and look for a network printer on all of them except the host that should already work.

If that were the case, the test free Norton or McAfee have been re-installed, but not valid, when you reinstalled Windows. If this is the case, you MUST uninstall the free trial AND download/run a specific removal tool & restart BEFORE you install updates or Service Packs and upgrades of IE AND BEFORE installing your new antivirus application (for example, BitDefender).

    Help!

    Hello

    • What version of Windows are you using?

    1. it is possible that you are missing the codec to play the file or it is clashing with other codec files.

    2. the link provided below lists supported by Windows Media Player file format.
It does not list the AVCHD or. MTS files supported file format directly:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/316992

    3. yet we cannot be sure at this point that the issue is due to interference with some files.

    Method 1:
Alternatively, you can perform a restore of the system to a previous point, when the issue was not present. The System Restore tool uses points of restore to return the system files and settings to an earlier point in time. You can use it to restore the operating system to a point in time where you have not experienced the problem.

Note: When you use System restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

To do this, there must be a restore point from the system in which the connection was successful.

Please refer to the below of the help links on performing a system restore.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/what-is-system-restore
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/system-restore-frequently-asked-questions

    Method 2:
You can determine which codec was used with a specific file; read the file in the player, if possible. When the file is playing, right-click the file in the library, and then click Properties. On thefile tab, look at the Audio codec and Video codec sections.

Then you can uninstall any installed codec and install that you need to do the job file.

If you have several codec for the single file to work they can clash and cause problems.

You can check the link for assistance on the issue - below

I have been unable to upgrade my laptop Windows 7 Edition Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional by using Windows Anytime Upgrade.
