large hard drive in a series 7741?

I currently have a 500 GB hd in mine, with a 1.5 to in.

specifications, max out at 500 GB, but they also maximize the processor to an i3, one that I have an i7 620 m in mine without any problems.

So, wha is the largest hard drive that someone has put in his?

A small database with the maxed out specs would be nice, but I guess that we can build our own.

Well the 1.5 TB drive went smooth as silk.

I bought a basket of cd-rom to take advantage of SATA instead of USB transfer rates.

I use Ghost to transfer files and start the recording as well as the score for "system restore."

So, to all of you who wander the limitations of the size of your system, it can only be limited by the "OS" and not the bios or chipset.

I keep the original 500 GB which was in it and moved to the cd caddy, as is disk 7200 RPM and is much faster than the 1.5 to, which is only one disk 5400 RPM. It will allow me to convert movies much faster with less overhead.

Now the only thing left is to change a 7741Z-7741G motherboard which has the built-in ATI video card with 1gig of ram video.

But right this second, I think that this forum is pretty much maxxed, but running smooth as silk.

Thanx Acer for such a well built system with the ability to upgrade!

    Thank you

    Hello

The Portege 7200ct seems to be an older unit.
I googled around and found some info on the delivered HARD drive.
It seems that the laptop came with a 12 GB of HARD drive.

ARIN, I think 20 GB HARD drive would work and in my opinion the BIOS does not recognize the larger hard drives.

  • Can satellite A30 - I install a larger HARD drive?

I thought I had taken care with boards and pieces of kit. but after the reconstruction of my A30 (having the replaced DC Jack), he comes up with the following messages:

    * SMART failure provided on hard disk 0: TOSHIBA MK4018GAS (PM) *.
    * WARNING: Immediately back up your data and replace your hard drive. A failure may be imminent.*
    * Press F1 to continue. *

I tried winding connector to HARD drive decision-making, which seems OK.

So start thinking I killed this disk somehow. If Yes, can I install a larger drive, say 80 or even 160 GB and should I look for a magic word MK4018GAS, or is it SATA or IDE, I'm looking.

    Thank you. Robin

    Hello!

If you delete the old HDD, you can see if an IDE or SATA HDD but the Satellite A30 is equipped with an IDE HDD.

You can use a larger HARD drive. This should not be a problem, but as far as I know this laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that the disc size limit is 128GB and so you can use a 120 GB HARD drive.
If you want to learn more about this read the article on Wikipedia or here: http://www.48bitlba.com

So, you can buy a 120 GB HARD drive or an 80 GB HARD drive as you suggest. I have good experiences with Hitachi and Seagate hard drives.

In any case, I think that it s a good idea to exchange the HARD drive. SMART error message appears as if there is something wrong with the HARD drive to back up your data as quickly as possible. ;)

  • How to switch my system on a larger hard drive without having to reinstall the OS and lose my data?

    replace the hard drive

I'm looking to replace my hard drive but I need all the files it is about it, passing a small hard drive to a larger hard drive. My question is how can I save all the files on the disk and how can I get the operating system on the new hard drive without the original disk

If your current system does not work, there is no need to bother with data backup, installation of applications and get a Windows XP installation CD (although regular backups are important to do as a general practice).

Instead, clone your current hard drive to your new hard drive.  All you need is an external hard drive enclosure and disk cloning software.  In addition, once you have made sure that everything works correctly, put the old drive in the external box and use it for backups.

Some of the cloning apps below are also disk 'images' (e.g. Acronis True Image).  A disk image can be compressed so that, for example 58 GB of data can produce a 40 GB image file.  Some of the apps, and of also can selectively backup specified files.

The housings of external drives more to connect to a USB port.  Make sure just that buy you one with the good 'form factor' (portable = 2.5 inches, computer desktop/Tower = 3.5 inches) and internal drive connector.  Many but not all speakers can deal with SATA and PATA time.

This example (for laptops) is not the less expensive external hard drive enclosure, but it's a decent case that can be used with either SATA or IDE (PATA) drives and comes with its own software package of cloning: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602

It is a very good buy for a drive IDE (PATA) Office size: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602

In general, Newegg is a good place for your search options by looking at the comments by users.

If you have a Western Digital hard drive, you can get a version of Acronis True Image free of WD (http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get the software of cloning separately (this is not an exhaustive list and in no particular order, some are free, some not):

    Acronis True Image Home
    EASEUS ToDo Backup
Paragon Drive Copy or Partition Manager Personal
    Casper
    Norton Ghost

  • More large hard drive for Compaq Presario CQ56-103SA

    Hello

I have a Presario, model CQ56 (103SA), the hard drive that I want to upgrade. Is this possible?  As the laptop has Windows 7 preinstalled, how can I do to get re-installed?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Ed434

The specifications indicate a hard drive of 250 GB. Yes that can be upgraded to a 1.5 to (6 times larger) or somewhere in between. 750 GB is the sweet spot right now or even 1 TB.

Also, your drive is a model of slow 5400 RPM so I suggest at least upgrade to a 7200 RPM model. This is the model 750 GB 7200 rpm:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=9SIA2W014M8026

This shows how to replace the hard drive physically:

    https://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=CiZxo9DjM6c

If your old drive still works, you can burn recovery DVD in the HP Recovery Manager. If the Windows installation is still OK (no viruses or anything like that) we can show you how it is enough to copy the old drive to the new so that you have all your programs and data. This operation may take some special software and hardware but not expensive. We can also provide a Windows 7 reinstall only disk image, you can recover Windows and then get the pilots and others from this site. There are several options, in other words.

  • Satellite P300 - upgrade to larger hard drives and 7200 RPM?

I have a Satellite P300, model PSPCCA-01W073 (sold in Australia). Machine has two 320 GB of HARD drive. Yes, it's all up to 640 GB. I upgraded to Windows 7 OS and I have dual boot in to Linux Ubuntu.

My job is editing/processing of multimedia files big and my hard drives are overexploited, so I now I am forced to exchange large files back and fourth with various USB hard drives. If I can replace the existing readers with much larger models, then I will go ahead and do it. .. But at this point, I'm out of my depth!

I asked the support from Toshiba if P300 supports larger disks but they will not engage all the answers outside the original specifications. They suggest that I should try Toshiba users forum for more help.

A kind person could tell me if it is possible to run drives 320 GB and the size. Also, I believe that the existing drives are 5400 RPM. My online store parts and pieces of local computer lists a choice between Hitachi, WD, Seagate and Samsung with sizes:

    (2.5 "/ 5400 RPM") 320 GB, 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB as well as sizes: (2.5 "/ 7200 rpm") 500 GB, 640 GB and 750 GB.

So my second question; y at - it no advantage or disadvantage to the superior speed of 7200 RPM.

TIA, your help should prevent to me yet an another expensive blunder.

    Longbow-00

    Hello

Theoretically more big hard drives must be supported and should not be a big problem to use this HARD drive as the SATA controller is not limited to any size.

Also the use of the faster HARD drive 7200 RPM should not affect the performance of the laptop even if this HARD drive faster produce more heat

In my opinion you can upgrade to a larger and faster HARD drive

  • Tecra S3 - impossible to duplicate the HARD disk of larger HARD drive

I have a new Toshiba Tecra S3, I bought one a few years ago with a 100gig hdd.
I'm running out of room and wanted to move to a larger capacity drive.

I bought a WD 400 GB sata 5400 RPM and the Appricon Easygig 2 cloning software and the USB universal drive adapter.
My first attempt I used the default settings and cloning went without problem, but the player does not start. I get the blue screen with an error message.

I tried cloning with accurate corresponding partitions, same result.
I tried to use the digital software West, the same results.
I tried the Acronis software with all the different options, the same results.

Given that my laptop came with the hidden recovery partition I don't have the original Windows XP pro disk, so I borrow one from a friend and tried to use the recovery of windows on the new drive I just cloned and could not find the hard drive at all.

I suspect it has something to do with the RAID drivers, but I don't what to do at this point if it is.
I don't want to start from scratch, I want just all what I have on my 100 GB to my 400GB clone.

Interestingly, I have used the Appricon method on other SATA improvements on other laptops completely successful, but this Toshiba has me out of resources.

Does anyone out there have a solution to my problem?

    Hello!

Garret is right to integrate the RAID driver software Acronis.

Therefore, you should use BartPE (http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/).
Install Bart PE and then copy the drivers RAID PE builder folder PE Builder\drivers\SCSIAdapter
Create a folder for the drivers, and copy the drivers inside.
In addition, you need the plug-in for Acronis True Image but I do not know Mr. you should find it on the site Web of PE Builder.

Then, you can burn a bootable Windows CD. On this CD is also Acronis software and then you can clone it.

    Good bye

  • Tecra 8100: Larger hard drive possible

    Hello

I would like to know what size of the hard drive for a Tecra 8100 can be. The original GB 12.1 broke down and I can't find a disc hard it big/small or large. The current hard disk to the start of the sale to 80 GB, but I am not sure if it will work.

I don't know what version of BIOS is loaded currently, but I plan to upgrade to the latest version anyway.

    Thank you for your answer!

    Roy van Lamoen

    Hello

because your computer has a set of chips Intel 82440BX/ZX, you will have some problems of large drives with 80Gig or similar facility. I've heard users here that 40 GB drivers work well, so if 60 GB works - I know Don t. 40Gig has been proven, so if I were you I would buy a 40Gig pladder and update my bios before installing the drive.

    Should work so perfectly. :)

  • Need new BIOS for Satellite A30 - 404 to upgrade to a larger HARD drive

I want to install a new (larger) disk on my Satellite A30-404.
He says have Bios version 1.80.
I probably need more recent (since it was purchased in 2003).

Y at - it a newer version for this machine?

    Hello

Latest BIOS version can be found on the European driver Toshiba page.
Currently, the version of the BIOS 1.80 is available and published for the Satellite A30 PSA30E.

By the way; a more recent BIOS will not help to use a bigger HDD!
The point is that your laptop supports the Enhanced IDE (ATA-5).
Since the ATA-5 interface supports the 28-bit LBA addresses you should be possible to use Max 128 GB OF HARD DRIVE. I think that this is the maximum size, which is possible.

  • New larger HARD drive Validation

    Hello

This is especially for the Lenovo support, when can we expect the validation of new th 5 to/to 6/8 to HARD drive currently on the market from various suppliers to make it on the official PX6 / list approved PX12?

Some of the orders of higher capacity were already available for months and yet to see any official support fo these until now.

We need a new NAS platform and the official support of these larger readers would certainly be helpful in the final decision.

  • File invisible or inaccessible space on large hard drives

I have two hard drives of 2 TB on a Win XP x 64 workstation (I think it's the SP3). I formatted the two disks using the DiskManagement tool which is reached by MyComputer. Manage | DiskManagement. After formatting, both discs showed only 1 TB of disk space available.

I used the same process successfully several times previously on drives 1 TB.

Readers were brand new, directly from the supplier of HARD drive. The computer has never been connected to the internet, and the risk of a virus is very low.

XP 64 bit supports more drives of 1 TB?  The DiskManagement tool is able to format these large capacity disks?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Hello

    ·         What was the size of each drive when you logged on to the computer?

    ·         What file format you format the hard drive (NTFS or FAT32)?

    ·         What kind of formatting you used (quick format or full format)?

Also operate a virus virus scan not only attack from the internet, but can also be transferred to any external drives that connect to the computer.

  • Computer does not recognize large hard drive.

I installed a larger capacity hard drive in my Dell laptop (Vista) ranging from 100 GB to 500 GB. I've used EaseUs Todo v4 to clone the hard disk and then put the new 500 GB in the laptop. Everything works fine, but the system still says that my OS has only 100 GB instead of 500 GB. The system recognizes the new hd (he calls it by name). I rebooted and you press "Esc", "F1" and "F8" all now claim. I'm sure this is an easy fix (hopefully) but I am at a loss. Your help will be appreciated.

    David

You may need to Flash the BIOS.  There is a barrier to 127 GB.  Go to the Dell web site, enter your service tag and check the updates to the BIOS.

I hope this helps.  Good luck.

  • Change to larger hard drives in Raid 1

    Hello

I have a PowerEdge R710 with 4 x 250 GB, SATA, 7,200 Hotswap TPM. Operating system is Windows SBS 2011. The drives running in Raid 1. A disk with the operating system and a disk with data and the other two discs are then the mirror disks.

I want to change the discs at 4 x 600 GB SAS 15,000 rpm disks.

My plan is to start with the data disk. Replace the drive with a new one, then wait for the reconstruction of the mirror and then swap the other drive and wait for the mirror to rebuild again. Then go to disk management in Windows Server and expand the disk at full capacity.

    But this procedure is possible?

And if not - otherwise, how can I change the hard drives of larger size?

    Kind regards

Is based on the backup software and type. If your software is capable of recovering "bare metal", there should not be a problem. If you just make a copy of the score, then no, it does not start.
