Latest flash player installation fails in IE8/Win XP

I tried to install the latest version of Flash Player on my XP system for two days. Here is my system info:

Win = 32-bit Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3

Browser = Internet Explorer Version 8.0.6001.18702

Flash Player - one I used (recent but not a beta) has been uninstalled when I tried to install your latest version on your site in the usual way. After a few attempts to install, I downloaded and executed the Player uninstall program according to the instructions found on your site - Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1 software installation/uninstallation r53 - just to make sure I was doing a clean install. I also downloaded the latest version and it ran manually.

All attempts to install failed. I saw two different installers, BTW, and all two reported a failure but a reason and suggested to your troubleshooting page.

I went to the troubleshooting page, where I've tried everything, by the book.

More recent attempts produced the following message appears when you try to install on your site:

"The version of adobe flash player ActiveX that you are trying to install is not the most recent version. Please visit http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer_fr for the latest and most secure version. »

I went to this page, again without success. There is no Flash x components listed in my active browser objects.

I managed to install the latest version of the Shockwave Player (I tried, just to see if that would fail, but who succeeded).

I must add that I work from web using Flash 8, so it's also on my system, but I've ever run into a problem installing a newer Flash Player up to now. (And I've been using Flash since before Macromedia, when it was called FutureSplash.)

Obviously, HELP!

It almost made me. Countless installs / uninstalls, Poirier, etc later, I finally found a solution that worked for me:

http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/494/cpsid_49419.html

I hope this works for you, too!

A damaged Windows system registry or incorrect registry permissions settings may prevent you from installing Flash Player.

Symptoms may include:

  • During installation, you see the error message "unable to install. For troubleshooting, please see: http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166. »
  • Your installation of Flash Player completes without error, but you cannot view Flash content in Internet Explorer.
  • Some sites tell you that you don't have the correct version of Flash Player, even if you have installed the latest version.
  • Some sites tell you to reinstall Flash Player, but after you do, you see the same message.

Permissions can be tricky, but in most cases, you can install and use Adobe Flash Player, if you are connected to a Windows administrator account. If you are unsure how to proceed, consult your system administrator or read the Windows documentation.

System administrators

If you are a system administrator, see permissions for registry required to install Flash Player or update (TechNote tn_19148).

Solution

Warning! By following the instructions below, you will modify the Windows system registry. A mistake could cause serious damage to the system, which may require you to reinstall your operating system.

If you are not comfortable editing the registry, get help from your system administrator or other COMPUTER professional.

If you choose to proceed, first back up your entire hard drive, and create a Windows System Restore Point.

Adobe Systems cannot be held responsible for any damages resulting from your following these instructions.

  1. Make sure that you are connected to a Windows administrator account. If you're not, you will not be able to use SubInACL.
  2. Download SubInACL from Microsoft Download Center.
  3. Follow the installation instructions. Make sure you only install SubInACL (subinacl.exe) to the directory C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools.
  4. Download the reset_fp10.zip file.
  5. Open the fp10.zip file and extract the reset_fp10.cmd file to the directory C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\. Note that this file and SubInACL (subinacl.exe) must be in this directory.
  6. Double-click reset_fp10.cmd. A command window will open and SubInACL will run.
  7. Do not use the machine while SubInACL is running.
  8. After SubInACL is completed, you will see a prompt "Press any key to continue".
  9. Install Flash Player on the Flash Player download page.
  10. To verify that your installation was successful, see the about Flash Player page. At the top of the screen, you should see a message that says "Adobe Flash Player successfully installed."

Now, I had a similar problem with 64-Bit of Windows 7 with Flash Player for Mozilla. Installation just told that he failed, without giving more details.

Following the advice I got in http://forums.adobe.com/message/3919367#3919367, I downloaded an installer explicitly http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/.

This site Web redirected me http://get.Adobe.com/flashplayer/ where I have downloaded http://aihdownload.adobe.com/bin/install_flashplayer11x64_mssd_aih.exe .

Running this program continued for about 20 minutes and eventually resulted in the error message: "Setup encountered errors: Actionlist not found."

  • Flash player installation fails on Yosemite/Mavericks

I could not update or install flash player for some time now.  It started on the Mavericks several months ago, when an update has failed, but I am now on Yosemite and the problem persists.  I tried many, many things on the forums apple and adobe for trying to get flash to install or update including starting in safe mode, remove the drive completely, flash Offline Installer and many others. I even spend about one hour with Apple in a chat session and another hour to a Genius Bar appointment - two technicians have been very knowledgeable but ultimately could not help.  I became convinced that something weird was messed up in my OSX installation so tonight, I reinstalled the operating system tries to solve this problem, but even that has not set.  The symptom is always the same - download fine, but little time in the installation phase fails.  The more useful info that I could get is running Setup directly via Terminal.

There are a few posts here with the same "Installer: certificate used to sign the package is not approved." Use - allowUntrusted to override. "question.  Please see the following threads:

Installer: certificate used to sign the package is not approved. AllowUntrusted - allows to substitute.

Untrusted certificate...  Flash will not install OS X 10.10?

The installer is signed correctly, Setup online smaily refers both the Offline Installer. Setup online simply download and install Setup offline silently in the background, while the Offline Installer is the full installation package.

  • Help! Flash Player installation fails (Vista; Internet Explorer)

I have problems installing Flash Player (14 I think - the installation program is called: install_flashplayer14x32ax_chrd_dn_awa_aih) on a laptop with Vista and IE. I'm PC illiterate, so don't know what version I have...

The Installer seems to know what I have and choose which version to install? Is this fair?

I get the performer or backup of the installer options, but everything I try, the installation seems to think it's worked, and I got to a browser's screen showing other things I might want to install. However, Flash Player does not appear to be installed, and the content does not, telling me that I need to install Flash Player.

I noticed one thing is that the installation bar moves at a slow pace and then all of a sudden, the last section goes into a microsecond, as he is abandoned, but it goes then on this other window. I have Malwarebytes Pro is installed for the protection.

    Could it be prevent installation?

I wish a notification if it has been, but get nothing...

Oh, and I used uninstall to get rid of the previous versions, but I have still some Panel for Flash Player settings, if I put the Flash Player in the search box?

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but even if I can fix it the motors and things, all PC stuff is somewhat a mystery so far...

    Thanks in advance.

There is no need to uninstall the previous version of Flash Player; the installer must do that for you.

  • OSX: Flash Player installer appears easily 10 x per day

    Dear Adobe team,

On my Macbook Pro with OSX 10.11.6 the app to install flash player launches easily 10 times a day, without asking me for it.

What is happening is that I do my job and at random, get a pop-up saying that Flash player is up-to-date on my system.

    10 times. a. day.

Unfocuses some app I work too much so I often in bulk text because of its input.

I don't know what make the top to open it, I have the following programs open all day: Firefox 48.0.1, Apple Mail, Mailplane 3, Slack, Apple Notes.

I can't spend a day with these applications closed for troubleshooting, it's my work machine.

Do you have any suggestions what to do? How do I update the Flash Player installer or why is this application even on my system?

Thank you very much for your help!

    Screen Shot 2016-09-07 at 14.44.44.png

    Thanks for the info.

The reason that the pop - up that happens is that the plugin PPAPI (used by Opera and browser based on Chromium, except Chrome) is an older version of Flash Player.  Update checker runs and tries to check for an update, but the check fails because of an error "unable to connect to the server.  Because he cannot connect to the server, it then returns the message you see.  We have not seen the error returned in your log file and need to continue the investigation.

    Use a proxy server?

Your system has restrictions on what processes can access the internet?

If you use the PPAPI plugin, launch the Chrome browser that uses it and go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download and install the latest version of the PPAPI plugin.

If you have / use a browser based on Chromium, I recommend you to uninstall.  Unfortunately, the Mac uninstaller program currently does not support remove them that type a (for example, PPAPI only or NPAPI only) Player.  It allows you to uninstall all Flash Player plugins present on the system and you will then need to re - install the NPAPI (used by Firefox) plugin.  To uninstall using the standalone uninstall program or the Adobe Flash Player installed by located in/Applications/Utilities.  After that the player is uninstalled, start Firefox and go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer to download and install the NPAPI plugin.
