launch of time machine breaks down mac

When I use launchpad or on the icon time machine in the menu bar to find a saved file my mac crashes with a frozen image of the date 'ladder' on the right side of the screen. How can I fix?

First of all, make sure that you do not use wireless to connect your Mac to the time Capsule.

Connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to a <>- on the Time Capsule LAN ports, restart the Mac and the Time Capsule, and then try again.

  • Time Machine breaks down during the work week, working all weekend after preferences rebuilt

End of 2013 the MacBook Pro 13 "Retina display, 16 gig RAM, OS x 10.10.5, gigabit networks are home and work, NAS at home only.

MacBook is used as working on simple business network machine all week. Time Machine off and save a couple hundred K and then crashes when I connect to home network at night. Same thing happens when I return to the home network for the weekend. I have disable TM, kill the TM preferences, restart to create new ones, back up on my home network NAS all weekend without problem. I turned off TM before going to work on Monday and back at home Friday night, and it fails. If the routine is now restore preferences TM Friday night, let the backup of its contents all weekend, turn off TM and go to work all week.

I would like to have the security of offline backup that comes with the TM run all the time.

It was suggested elsewhere to rebuild the Spotlight database. It did not work. I use locate on the command line and have rebuilt the database too.

A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of Netatalk incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

  • Open the project file CC on the second machine breaks down

    Hello!

I believe that I ve read most or all of the matching topics here, but I'm still stuck, then here´s my situation.

On my primary I ve of the workstation has created a project of medium complexity (150 GB, about 200 files, 5 sequences).

    Here, everything works fine.

On my laptop, I also installed Adobe CC. I copied the entire projects to workstation 1 folder on my external HARD drive and connected to my laptop.

Opening and cutting works fine here too.

Now, when I save and resume the project (project only folder) to the workstation 1, here first Pro CC fails to load up.

The loading bar goes to about 75% and then freezes. If I give it some time (10-15 minutes) he finally finished loading, but first does not display a reaction to the mouse or the keyboard, that there is no visible sign at all. Basically he broke down, that s that is not indicated by the Task Manager.

I ve tried all the tips in here as well as the "usual stuff":

    • Save a new project file, nothing.
    • Removal of the preview files, and then save a new file, nothing.
    • Import the AE project and export a new project (on my laptop), nope.
    • Delete all dynamic related comps of the former, save and then taking it for 1 laptop, open and save again, to take back to the workstation, don't.
    • Completely removing all Adobe on my workstation 1 and re-setup CC, ' experience ', but nothing helps.
    • I have followed the solution of the similar problem on another thread here in the forums, with having unzipped xml file and removing some lines of code and so on, still nothing.

Then I advanced and installed CC on my second laptop (not at all to be considered as a workstation). Here the projects saved on laptop 1 open just fine (request of media files of course...).

    EDIT:
I forgot to mention that a new empty project since laptops opens fine on my computer...

So I have to consider that something is wrong with my main workstation. Right?

    Any ideas, anyone?

It s a new installation of Windows 8.1 with 24 GB Ram, GeForce GTX 570, i7 950, WD drives only, Windows on a separate drive hybrid...

    All CC installations are up-to-date.

Any help would be greatly appreciated my deadline is Monday...

    Thank you!

Try to assign the same drive letter to external hard drive from the laptop that you assigned to the media player on your desktop.  This way, any project saved on the laptop will have the same references to absolute media file which has the workstation.

NB: If the Task Manager still think Pr reacts by showing you that it is using the memory and cycles microprocessor, then Pr probably has collapsed.  He's just busy and taking his sweet time on everything he does.  (Especially the 'probably')

You talked about the removal of the preview files, but you don't say anything about your media cache cleaning.  Try this.  A good cleaning of your user and Windows temporary files might help.  You must also run chkdsk on drives of your desktop to help you diagnose the hard drive failure is imminent or not.

    See you soon,.

  • migrate time machine again Mac... then re time machine without duplicating the entire hard disk?

    Hello

It should work, but it is not for me!

My MacBook Pro retina is 3 years old. Running the most recent El Capitan.  I time the Machine every day, and everything's fine.

You just bought a new MacBook Pro to replace my old.  All the information has migrated to the new machine through Migration.

Everything worked successfully, and my 'new' machine is a 'mirror' of my old.  (Finally, especially!)

But now... after a few hours I want to re-time Machine my new Mac to the same backup drive Time Machine I just migrated to.  I use about 200 GB on my Mac, and he wants to take about 2 hours and re back up everything!  But I've only added a few emails in the last 2 hours. My question - WHY Time Machine wants to fundamentally rewrite all or most of my data again?  It's all there and nothing is changed?  My current user administrator name is the same on both.

Hmmm... I saw somewhere my old mac was named Larry (2) Mac and I see it now has named Mac Larry (3).

I did that, I guess El Capitan did.  Would be - which is why he wants to rewrite all the data?

Thank you very much - I think I'm not the only one out there who has this from happening?

    Larry

    Hello, Larry Cohen,.

I understand the desire to have a time Machine just continue to use the existing backup with the new computer. It takes time to backup everything, and unless you erase the disc, first you'd have muliple backups on it.

This article gives the instances when you can have the new Mac inherit the backup.

  • questions of failure/replacement of Time machine

I have an old time machine that was failing and I'm going to buy a new drive. When I get the new drive:

    1. How do I format it?
    2. is there an advantage to making it be bootable?
    3. If so, how I would be bootable?
    4. is it possible to copy the contents of the current time machine disk to the new disk? The old time machine disk drive is 500 GB, and I don't have 500GB free on my disk system hae. Should I just unplug the old drive and I only connect if I can't find a file? In addition, 500 GB drives no longer seem to be available. The smallest drive available now is 1 TB.
    5. Is it possible that the failures of time machine, I had are with the time machine of tine software, not the drive? I'm under mountain lion. I don't want to update to OSX, because I do not know if all applications will break.
    6. the reason why I asked question 5 is that when the disc goes down, I disable the mac, disconnect/reconnect the time machine, turn on mac. It is possible that the mac start-up is enough, and I don't need to disconnect/reconnect the time machine. Thoughts here?

  • Can't the connection time machine to my airport extreme

Initially we have only got a PC and got the AirPort Extreme Wi - Fi.  We now have a Mac and I can get the WiFi to work with the extreme but I can't get the backup part to work.  I don't know if it's because we already have a network in place or not, but when I enter Time Machine my Time Capsule is not appear:

I need to create a new network?  I'm just very confused and would appreciate your help.

The names which assigns Apple can become confused. For example...

Time Machine is a Mac software that is used to back up data on the Mac on another hard drive.

A Time Capsule is material... specifically, it is a router wireless ( AirPort Extreme) that has a built in hard drive that can be used as a destination for the backup.

The AirPort Extreme is material... specifically, it's a wireless router only... but a hard drive can be added to a USB port on a new version of the AirPort Extreme to create a destination for the backups. If you do not have the new AirPort Extreme... (it has the shape of a tower)... you must have a separate USB hard drive connected to the AirPort Extreme, if you want to save the files on your Mac.

Thus, in order to go in the right direction at the beginning, should first confirm if you have an AirPort Extreme... who's a router only... or if you have a Time Capsule... who's an AirPort Extreme with a built-in hard drive.

On your Mac, open Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility

Hold down the option key when you double click on the image to your Apple device

The model you have will be displayed

  • Slow backup on Time Machine to Seagate Maxtor M3

    Hello

I'm trying to save on a Seagate Maxtor M3 2 TB external, portable player using Airport Extreme and Time Machine, since my Mac Book Pro 13 "beginning 2015."

Is 7 hours for a 91 GB a reasonable turnover?

The backup seems to stop when the machine mode 'sleep', is there a way to keep it alive and back up, even with the black screen?

Thank you very much in advance for any suggestions you may have.

    Kind regards.

    Toni

Hello Toni, I had this problem too. Your backup hard drive maybe a good speed, but the usb of the airport is only a USB 2 port, and he has always shown to be slow for me when I connect a hard drive in this way. My suggestion would be to go in on your mac Energy Saver preferences, and then select the power adapter. Then select never sleep. Then at night, turn your MacBook Pro on the charger and let it open. Then connect the backup hard drive, and it backs up during the night. Airports have shown to be a little weak in this area. In fact, my Airport stops working if I try to do.

  • my time machine just to complete a backup, but it is not listed?

I have three macs backed up on a time machine. The mac, I want to migrate was on the list, but I made a new backup to get the latest version. Now that it's over, it is not on the news on the time machine. No idea where it went? It drives me crazy.

    Your question is unclear.

I have three macs backed up on a time machine.

You mean a Time Capsule? They are backed up by Time Machine on every Mac.

The mac, I want to migrate was on the list, but I made a new backup to get the latest version.

Mac that you want to migrate from appeared in the Finder with a sparsebundle? It's still there... Have you opened it manually and check the dates?

Now that it's over, it is not on the news on the time machine

Sorry now it gets too complicated... did you really mean Time Machine here?

If the Time Machine works normally... hourly backup you would not need to do anything special, so I'm lost exactly what you're doing different.

No idea where it went? It drives me crazy.

Me too.. I don't know where he's been... because I don't know what that means, or it you are talking about.

Missing the sparsebundle to the backup?

It is simply not enough the last backup date?

Backup details will be in the paper... you can go through it and find out what happened.

If you are migrating to a new computer before get rid you of this computer... Just use migration between the method of computers... not the method of TM. Transfer works very well... better even... If you connect two computers together through ethernet (love at first sight would be fantabulous)... and transfer on the standard gigabit network. If your method of backup fails for some reason any.

But there are as many reasons for the failure of TM is not easy to understand.

Use a work around if it is important to do this via the backup instead of direct.

for example... a USB plug into the computer and use it as the target for backup... TM has done well above the local level as network drives.

You can also create a clone bootable disk USB using Carbon Copy Cloner who is free to use for one month.

  • How to clean the files of time machine restore after reinstall

Just did a wipe and reinstall on an iMac 2011 (10.8.5) mountain running Lion.

I don't want to do a full restore from Time Machine; I just want to take a few important files (cache profiles, e-mail, etc.). [Did the reinstall because my system was flawed and nothing else I did fix it.] [The story is here:beachball recurring in all applications in Lion, finally freezes iMac]

When I open Time Machine on my 'new' machine and turn it on, he says he has no previous backups, but begins to make its first backup in 120 seconds. There is no option to "enter" Time Machine and recover individual files.

I then turn off Time Machine because I'm afraid that it will make a new backup and erase / unrecoverable my previous backups.

The drive Time Machine target exists in disk utility. A 600 + files (backups, no doubt!) and verified without errors.

Before the clean and reinstall Time Machine worked perfectly. I have test-recovered some files and everything was good.

How do I introduce my iMac 'new' to my old backups Time Machine?

    Thank you

Use tmutil inheritbackup such as described by the end Pondini in his FAQ, here: http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html. Follow the instructions in the blue box, entitled "inherit a backup. The is short and simple but please follow carefully.

I believe that you won't always be able to restore individual files until that Time Machine backs up new, then let him. Once this is done, you will have access to your old backups.

Alternate procedure: since you can not keep this old backup after the restoration of the individual in any case files, you can hold a key option key while clicking the Time Machine in your Mac's menu bar. A option «Browse other backup disks...» ' will be displayed. What to choose.

That said, if the files in question are outside of the Virtual Machine and inside the OS X Filesystem, for example in your Home folder, then Time Machine will back up what the file system of the host that is not excluded.
