Leave 1 USB key type

Hello

Where I work we have a pool of laptops;

For security reasons whe have secure USB key to store data for transfer to and from these laptops en;

I wonder if it is possible to configure the laptops so that they perform some type of script at startup which allows the user to use only the USB secure and non-personal USB keys.

I was browsing the internet and found something on a provider that is stored in the windows registry ID, but I can't understand how to use this information and transfer it to a working script.

Anyone any ideas?

See you soon,.

Paul.

In Windows Vista and Windows 7, there are functionality similar to what you want in group policy, but in Windows XP, you must look for third-party tools to do that it is NOT the windows component.

  • password does not stay when I transferred the file to a USB key

    Hello

In my office, we have 2 different types of adobe, the licensed version for what we pay and some people have the free version, in both cases where we password protect a document and transfer it with a USB port on a different PC, password protection disappears. We have windows 8.1 and it becomes a real security problem. Can someone tell me how to fix this bug?

I suspect that it is a possibility.

    The user opens the file.

The user accesses the properties and sets a password.

User is dragging the file on the USB key in Windows Explorer.

    The user closes the file.

This is easily done and will of course leave a file unprotected on the USB.

You can check this quietly looking at the modified date on the file on the USB key. If it has been modified until the user says that the password has been set, you can show that this is what happened.

  • If you like a challenge? Weird USB problem, he does not see my own USB key, but he sees another USB, but on other computers - it - see my USB key! P.S., Already tried a lot of solutions (unemployed). I'm an ITer.

    Hey there.

I have the weirdest problem ever. I have a computer that does not see my USB, other computers but do not see my USB.
Now, we tried another usb key (with usbstick I mean a ^_^ usb flash drive) and he DOES not see that stick! My own stick is a SANDISK Cruzer without U3, just ordinary storage 8gigs. None of the firmware see-as-CD. And the other was a different brand, but I don't remember.

I also tried to plug a very specific device (A P2000 keystrokes recorder, it is a device that recorded incidents, I work for the firedepartment/police/ambulance and it records events), but he doesn't know that aswell of device, as if it has never been plugged in (we have installed the correct drivers for it).

Now, I did some standard troubleshooting (check drivers, drivers of reupdating) and I removed all the usb drivers, restarted, drivers were back as usual, is not yet connect mine but it connects the other stick. My usb key works perfectly well with all computers but this one (same for the recorder to P2000), reupdated and installed, checked and stuff. Ports SHOULD work.

I would appreciate help! Thank you!

    P. S.
More info; It does not take into account the USB and connects anything, even the little blue light inside the usb key does not illuminate. Its as if she was never plugged on. The other has worked flawlessly on the same port, however. And my USB works on other computers. (Ditto for the P2000, but is not on the P2000.)

    P.S.S.
I guess my computer-type is too relevant?

Recently, I bought a relay 8 GB USB Flash drive, and it works great under XP. But in Vista, it will run for 2 seconds and then stops. I tried everything I can think of. (Tho can't really remind them now. =) Staples support has not been able to help me, (big surprise), so I guess it has something to do with Vista. I just installed SP2 as well and it still doesn't work. When I bought it, I have the formatted in FAT32, with the Vista laptop.

It does not give any error message, it just stopped responding. Almost as if I would take it outside, but it's not. Whenever I try to open it, it closes. With whatever it is.

    Hi Tosai,

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

Vista does not recognize devices that are the reason for the USB key to the FAT 32 format, that is perhaps not getting recognized, you may need to convert the machine to NTFS, follow these steps to convert the machine to NTFS:

Click Start > type in the Device Manager in the research starting > expand disk drives to find the USB device > click with the right button on the player > select Properties > then go to the policies tab > select the "Optimize for performance" option and click OK, and then do the format, then select NTFS.

  • Drive (USB key) cleaned using the command line. Not able to use the USB.

I had downloaded Chrome OS vanilla http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/ and writes to a 8 GB USB key. After that I checked, I tried to remove it. I plugged my USB and it asked me to format it. There was only one option of 1 GB. After formatting, I just had 1 GB on my USB key. Then, I tried http://erlern.wordpress.com/2010/04/02/repair-unallocated-space-from-usb-flash-drive/ and followed the procedure in the comments.

    Step 1: Start-> CommandPrompt->
    Step 2: Type diskpart-> Enter
Step 3: Type list disk-> Enter
Note: (find the allocated number of the disk)
Step 4: Type select disk X-> Enter
Note: (If X is the number of your drive)
    Step 5: Type clean-> Enter

After that when I plug my camera he asks me to format the drive. It shows unknown capacity. After clicking on start it says Windows could not complete the format. Then when I close it, it says Windows can not format H. check that the drive and the drive are connected correctly, make sure that the disc is not dead, and then try again. For more information, search the help of read-only files and how to change them. Now I can't use it and it has no memory. Please help me.

I got it. I HAD to PLUG IN ANOTHER PORT USB (IT DOESN'T WORK ON OTHER TWO) AND USE the TOOL in http://erlern.wordpress.com/2010/04/02/repair-unallocated-space-from-usb-flash-drive/ (in the tool, that the device will not be detected in the tool in the other 2 ports) Thank YOU

    Hello

Thank you for the update on the issue. I appreciate your time and effort in resolving this issue.

You can try the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

You can use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment (Windows RE) to troubleshoot and repair the following items in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    • A master boot record (MBR)
    • A boot sector
    • A Boot Configuration data (BCD) store

Note: When you are troubleshooting startup issues by using the Windows RE, you should first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialog box. If the Startup Repair option does not resolve the problem, or if you must troubleshoot more steps manually, use the Bootrec.exe

Use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/927392

If the problem persists, proceed to method 2.

    Method 2:

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Tool command prompt open in the mode of the Windows recovery environment .
    2. You will see X:\Sources
    3. Type chkdsk c:\ at the flashing prompt to launch the utility Chkdsk. replace c:\ with the letter of the drive that you want to run the Chkdsk utility. If the hard drive is d:\, then type that instead.
    4. After the "chkdsk c:\. "insert \f command to fix errors on the disk volume or the \r to recover bad sectors and then press ENTER.
    5. Restart the computer once the chkdsk command has completed.

Note: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive, it attempts to repair this sector, if all available on which data may be lost.

  • Faulty USB key

I have a USB, I was working on something, and then suddenly the USB not working anymore, I wonder if this has something to do with the file I was working on or is the USB aisle and I can't use it. I have all the backups of my USB and I have important work on that in fact I remember deal files to the computer, but I deleted them that I also tried to put the USB key to a different computer, but still nothing happens.

    Which computers I used:

    Lenovo ThinkPad X 220 and

    Acer Travelmate P645-MG

I need work on the memories soon Please update.

    This is a generic USB

It is likely that the USB (I assume that's what you're referring to the) failed.

You can try a few things - assuming that it displays in the list of the computer:

Use Chkdsk: In the Accessories folder, right click on the command line item.

When the black window, type chkdsk, space, (drive letter see you for this in the list of the computer), space/r.  For example, it might look like this: chkdsk f:/r, it is possible that the 'disc' is corrupt and chkdsk can fix.

If this does not help, always assuming that it displays in the computer list, right-click on it and choose reformat.  This will make you lose data, but it might save the device.

Keep in mind USB thumb drives are cheap.  Marks for not even.  USB 3.0 drives 32 GB go for about $20.

Know as well as USB FLASH drives have a limited life span.  Technically, every time you write something, you ' wear it. "  They are good for move files from time to time, but not a good thing for backups or constant daily use.

  • BitLocker without TPM refuses to recognize the USB key at startup.

I have a Windows 7 PC, I'd need to BitLocker, but it fails to recognize the USB key at startup. I've resorted to skip verification and now enter the recovery key every time you start (this PC has a lot of data on what should be confidential), but it's not ideal.

What is curious to me, is that the computer will start perfectly fine from a USB key, or produce a message of type "non system disk or disk error", if the USB key in question is not bootable. So it is not a matter of lack compatibility USB BIOS. When Bitlocker should read, yet there is no actifvity on the USB key. It seems to just try to read the empty floppy drive then give up.

The PC is an all-in-one RM with an Intel D915GX motherboard.

I tried two different USB, 64 megabytes cheapo player drives I usually use as a Bitlocker key and a 2 GB Cruzer Blade. I mucked with some of the BIOS settings but not in a particularly organized way. And I checked the key file is saved on the disk. Everything I did, Bitlocker will not always see the USB.

    Any suggestions?

  • USB key is always write protected even if the value is zero

WHEN READ VALUE IS SET TO ZERO PENDRIVE NOT REMOVED THE WRITE PROTECTION

    Hello

    1. Are you having the same problem, if you connect the USB to different computer?
    2. Are you having the same problem if you connect different USB key to your computer?
    3. What is the brand and model of the pen driver?
    4. Have you tried making the virus for USB scan?

Write protection is a feature found on many different types of media. When the write protection is turned on, you will be able to view the information on the disc or USB key, but you won't be able to write or transfer information to it.

Write protection is an element of protection which prevents accidental deletion of important data. Sometimes turning off the write protection is as simple as uncapping the USB key to find a manual switch. If your player lacks an external switch, the procedure requires a few steps to complete.

    (a) turn on your computer and plug the drive after that your operating system is loaded.

    (b) open 'My computer' and the list of readers of research until you find your USB drive letter

    (c) right click on the name, then click 'properties '. Browse the tabs until you see the option to remove the write protection. If this does not work, proceed to the next step.

    (d) visit the website of the company for your USB key. Go to the help or support section and search for "write protect".

    (e) search the Internet for software that will remove the write protection. Download the program and install it on your computer.

    (f) open the software. Follow the instructions to remove your USB write protection.

I also suggest you analyze your USB key with the Microsoft Safety Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.
The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While running scan on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when scanning try to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.
