Lenovo B590 won't usb key boot

I just bought this laptop and it came with windows preinstalled 8, and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on it.

I have a bootable usb key, which I've used several times to install Windows on my other laptops, but the just B590 won't. I feel I have tried everything. I changed boot priority in the BIOS with USB HDD as number 1, but it always starts just in windows 8.

I tried to delete everything except the boot order USB devices, and now I get this start menu:
http://i.imgur.com/1iV2iaW.jpg

Which is exactly what I want to boot from, but when I press ENTER to boot the USB device, nothing happens. It's incredibly frustrating.

The USB device IS bootable with a primary partition. I used these steps to make it bootable in DISKPART:
http://social.technet.Microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/234.how-to-deploy-Windows-7-from-a-USB-Dr...

After having no luck on the B590, I tried to boot from the USB stick on another computer and it works perfectly fine. Start the installation of windows 7. This suggests that the problem is not with my USB.

I even tried to restore the USB and use Lenovo generator Bootable application to make the bootable usb key, with the same result.

Can anyone help?

Hi Hypotaksen,

Thank you for using the Community Forums of Lenovo!

BIOS backwards

Under the Startup tab

Change Boot mode in legacy

USB boot must be enabled

Under Security

Secure Boot should be disabled

In case the above options are grayed out in your BIOS, got to the tab out and change OS optimized defaults to other OS

and look at the options.

Once all are set be sure to save all changed by pressing F10 and enter for Yes

After Hitting enter it restart and you have to keep tapping F12

This should make the Start Menu that lets you choose where to start. You should now have your USB optional.

Let me know your results

    Hello

Thank you for the update on the issue. I appreciate your time and effort in resolving this issue.

You can try the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

You can use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment (Windows RE) to troubleshoot and repair the following items in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    • A master boot record (MBR)
    • A boot sector
    • A Boot Configuration data (BCD) store

Note: When you are troubleshooting startup issues by using the Windows RE, you should first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialog box. If the Startup Repair option does not resolve the problem, or if you must troubleshoot more steps manually, use the Bootrec.exe

Use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/927392

If the problem persists, proceed to method 2.

    Method 2:

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Tool command prompt open in the mode of the Windows recovery environment .
    2. You will see X:\Sources
    3. Type chkdsk c:\ at the flashing prompt to launch the utility Chkdsk. replace c:\ with the letter of the drive that you want to run the Chkdsk utility. If the hard drive is d:\, then type that instead.
    4. After the "chkdsk c:\. "insert \f command to fix errors on the disk volume or the \r to recover bad sectors and then press ENTER.
    5. Restart the computer once the chkdsk command has completed.

Note: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive, it attempts to repair this sector, if all available on which data may be lost.

Elite Mini PC 8300.  I made a bootable USB key but cannot get the Menu of boot or boot order configuration in the BIOS to see the player.  Exactly the same as in this other thread pending: USB not available in the Start Menu

In 'Device Configuration' (BIOS) is listed, it does NOT appear in the Boot configuration order, even if I save changes and reboot.  I have disabled UEFI and Secure Boot, activated Legacy BIOS, I intend to install Windows 7 x 64.  When starting I press F9 or ESC to display the start menu and the USB key is not listed.  All USB ports are enabled.  Tried the ports front and rear (except USB 3.0 those W7 with no support from the other drivers for USB 3.0).  I tried he prepares with Microsoft USB DVD Tool and Rufus.

The flash player has worked well with several other PCs.  for example I have HP Pro 4300 SFF and the flash player starts without a problem here it is configurable in BIOS and select from the Start Menu.

First attempts on Elite 8300 was with BIOS v2.99.  But I also tried after update BIOS to v3.03 because release notes made remarks on improving support USB, but there was No change even problem.

Take the battery CMOS press switch reset CMOS on the systemboard put the CMOS battery, restart the device to fix a date and time in the BIOS and check if this is useful.

  • Satellite M40-237: CD Boot does not not + is possible startup USB key drive

    * Model: Satellite M40-237 (PSM40E) *.

I decided to reinstall windows, my hard drive is now formatted. So as usual, boot from the Windows CD is necessary to start the instalation but it does not start. I never had problems like this, always worked boot. It's as if there is no bootable CD in the drive (but it is bootable and it works on another PC).

-J' have the latest version of the BIOS
-The BIOS detects the optical drive and everything is ok, HARD is the ODD main drive is secondary
-J' tried selecting the boot priority, with F12 and/or the BIOS setting but it works anyway

What could be the problem here? Drive does not properly (hopefully, that and not something worse)? I had some problems with the drive I have (...) before, but it reads the disc normally and as I said start was working fine before. I cleaned the lens a bit, disconnected it and it put. Is there something more, what can I do?

I'll try to find someone who has the player that fits so I can try with that one, but who knows when is what will be.

Now, here's the second question, which I've linked to this. Because my laptop is practically useless now (I can't install anything), is it possible to boot from a:
    (a) optical drive USB external
    (b) USB flash drive

BIOS on this laptop has no USB boot option, it has HARD drive / CD / floppy / network. But I red somewhere this FDD = USB legacy emulation is enabled.

If that is correct, I should just plug in the USB key and select FDD as boot option? If I can't find a USB optical drive, I thought make it bootable USB flash drive and copy the installation of windows xp on it. So once it starts in DOS I start just the installer from the key.

First I must say that the initialization of memory flash USB (USB key) is not possible and you shouldn't t waste time to try this.

With regard to your reader of CD/DVD boot problem
Well, it s really strange, it sounds a bit like a sort of master/slave/c-salt settings problem. But generally, you should get an error IDE (#0 or #1) if one of the devices (ODD or HARD disk) would not be recognized?  :|
    This whole thing seems mysteriously
There may be a firmware issue

    Hello

You will need to work with the IT Department. to work to get the files not encrypted on the disc so that you can
use the disk and the files at home. "" They could add ability to encryption of your system at home
If you need that and they allow it.

    Hello

    1. you are trying to install Windows XP by using the bootable USB key?

Check if the sequence of the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is set to boot to the operating system from the USB key.

For more information get in touch with the manufacturer of the system.

    Note:

BIOS change / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Your system should boot from a bootable USB key, as long as you select in the BIOS or at the time of booting as a device to boot from. What is an update of the BIOS... version 5.23 corrects the display of the configuration Menu of the BIOS for SATA Port 2 and 3, CPU microcode updates and updates v115M for MXIC SPI AWDFLASH.

  • Dell: inspiron 1525 not boot from a USB stick, USB key are not not in the start option.

    Hi all

I bought this dell laptop inspiron 1525 in the year 2008 with mentioned configuration:

    Core 2 duo processor

    1 GB OF RAM

Due to some problems in my windows vista, I decided to install a new windows vista in my laptop. I run the dell support live cd at the start of my laptop and created the partitions on my system. But while the new installation OS on the cd i found that optical drive of my system does not work very well. so, I decided to install the new OS of USB. I went to the BIOS and selected the USB key in the boot sequence. but when I tried to install the new OS while pressing the F12 key, USB key is not listed in the start option.

could someone help me to install the new OS in my machine? It is very urgent that my machine is down for 1 week.

Please try attached BIOS changes screenshot than everything be useful to me.

    Thank you

    Gurpreet

    Hi Gurpreet,

    Thank you for your response.

My apologies if I seem repetitive, but when you go to the Option of boot sequence in the system configuration screen, do you think that the USB storage device listed? And do you see a number in front of it?

Go to the option for embedded devices and check if the USB ports are enabled or disabled. If disabled, change the option and enable the USB Ports.

If this step does not help, go to the Maintenance option in the system configuration screen and press enter on 'Load Defaults'. On the side right, highlight 'Continue' in green, press Enter and then save & exit.

Please keep us informed of the results.

    Thank you and best regards,

    Hi all

I installed a host vmware esxi 3.5 starts using a USB key.

My problem is that the key has been broken.

I have reinstall a new key with the same version of esxi 3.5 and assigned the same IP address to the host.

Should what steps I follow to host my comments towards the top and run again?

Thanks a lot for your help.

    It's not good

Are you sure that your storage space is not the original problem?

If you start from USB, and the key fails, ESXi will continue to function until you restart the box. ESXi RAM tracks

If your storage space is 100%, you can try the following

Advanced settings under configuration if I remember correct:

    EnableResignature change to 0

Replace disallowSnapshotLun with 0 as well.

A new analysis of the storage card at least 2 times

Change the values back to 1 if it works

  • Cannot start T400 USB key.

I'm trying to start a Lenovo T400 laptop computer from a USB key.  The USB key contains a version of Ghost that I start in order to image the laptop to my Ghost server.  I can successfully start a Ghost on a CD session, but I have to change the SATA settings in the BIOS to achieve this.  I'm trying to get away from the CD and change the BIOS.

Whenever I try to start, I get the message "Missing Operating System".  Successfully, I can boot and picture one boatload of Dell computers with the same USB key, so I don't think it's the drive.  On the laptop's operating system is Windows XP.  The USB stick uses command.com Windows 98 to start and is formatted in FAT32.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Hey, Zoltan-thanks for the post, it was very helpful.  I'm not fluent in Linux that I'd probably, but your mention of the HP trainer got me interested in it.  I reformatted the drive USB with the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and then copied back all my files.  I can now successfully start a Lenovo T400 with my USB.  I was using a Windows 98 bootdisk to fdisk and then format the drive.  (This is my first attempt at this and a colleague suggested it was the right way to go)  Even if the system with the USB drive as C drive, I guess he doesn't properly format it as the active drive.

    Thanks again for your help!
