  I have two ASA 5510 devices in Active mode / standby.  I think of buying both used IPS modules and their installation.  My question is, me 1 or 2 licenses IPS that requires?  We are on 8.4 right now, and I see 8.3 Cisco changed license to c/o to where you need only one license, not two.  This is true for any way VPN licenses, so I was wondering if the same applies to licenses IPS.

  I have a 881 Cisco I would update the IPS Signatures on. I have a standard contract of SMARTNET 8 x 5 for it, so I'm able to download IOS updates etc. Do I need a special assistance to access the signatures contract updated EAR or I'll be good to go with what I already have?

  To update of the signature of the IPS, you must purchase the IPS subscription license. The Smartnet you only allows you to update the software, not the signature.

  Yups, this is an issue that is seen. Downgrade of Java should solve the problem. If this is not the case, turn on java debugging logs and paste those here:

  Go to control panel-> java right click-> Open-> Advanced-> check all the boxes that appear under debugging and click the radio button to see the console

  Rerun the IDM in browser and collect data in the java console window and paste it here.

  If you started the recovery image, you have a partial installation. You need to go in the module with the command of session and launch the installation. Once you have a Setup "bootstrap" in place, you can complete the recovery process by installing the full image.

  Something like this:

   ciscoasa# session sfr console Opening console session with module sfr. Connected to module sfr. Escape sequence is 'CTRL-^X'. Cisco ASA SFR Boot Image 5.3.1 asasfr login: admin Password: Admin123

  Then run the installation program, followed by 'system install' to load the full image (pkg) package as follows:

   asasfr-boot> system install ftp://@/asasfr-sys-5.3.1-152.pkg Verifying Downloading Extracting Package Detail Description: Cisco ASA-SFR 5.3.1-152 System Install Requires reboot: Yes Do you want to continue with upgrade? [y]: Y Warning: Please do not interrupt the process or turn off the system. Doing so might leave system in unusable state. Upgrading Starting upgrade process... Populating new system image Reboot is required

  Once you reboot, the module of sfr should show that up to. You can then connect back (using admin / Sourcefire), accept the EULA, and end with the re-definition of addressing, and then adding the definition of a Manager.

• Impossible to get in sensor IME or ASDM

  I have a brand new ASA 5515 X.

  I've ridden in the sensor of the CLI, gave the sensor a name, a password for the account, retained the IP 192.168.1.2 (address management ASA is 192.168.1.1), changed the time zone and DNS settings and left everything to default values.

  However, when I try to contact the sensor by using IME (or ASDM) from the management network, I get a message saying that the sensor cannot be contacted or load.

  I can't ping the sensor (not sure if this is allowed), but I can ping to the management on the ASA interface.

  What I'm missing here?
