I'm trying to figure if VMware Data Recovery is available with the Enterprise license.

If you see that the page VDR says that it is only available in Enterprise Plus, advanced and Essentials Plus Edition.

    http://www.VMware.com/products/data-recovery/

But if you check that page compare shows THAT VDR is available in Advanced and Enterprise.

Data recovery is available for download from vSphere ESX(I) and vCenter Server downloads.  Download of data recovery will include a device to the OVF format, a vCenter plug-in and a restoration of file system component.  There is a simple installation guide, but basically, install the vCenter Plugin on your client computer, import the OVF, Plugin allows you to configure the device of data recovery.

    Hey North Carolina,

It is precisely one of the problems of VDR: you don't master's degrees not starting backup time! You define time slots during which the backup can take place. Then, the VDR system decides alone when launch the backups. The only thing you're on, it's that no backup takes place during the time slot prohibited (in grey in interface).

    Good luck.

  • VmWare data recovery and work with independent labels

I read on a forum: If you want to drive the snapshot of the virtual machine is not affected, in its properties, select the "independent". Moreover, if the virtual computer is 'Independent' disks, the snapshot cannot be included in his memory.

There was a question if the readers to all virtual machines 'Independent', would work "VmWare Data recovery?

I'm not sure about my discoveries. SO please don't take this as a solution to your problem. My conclusions are:

When you start to take a vDR of backing up a virtual computer that is configured with an independent record, it will not be successful. As vDR is used to take a snapshot in order to perform the backup of a virtual computer. If the capture is here, Independent disks prevents taking snapshot.

  • How many vmware data recovery machines possible?

    Hello

is it possible to use more than one computer of vmware data recovery? I need because the vmdr is limited to two destinations and I need one more backup on a USB key.

    Greetings

According to VMware Data Recovery requirements

Ten aircraft of backup data recovery for each instance of vCenter Server

However. I don't think that storage device USB is supported as a store of deduplication.

  • VMware Data Recovery 2 in a vCenter Server

    Hi all

I need a base backup of VMS backup solution. I know that each camera VDR is bounded to vCenter server, you might not use vcenter several with one camera VDR. But in a sense the opposite? I use several VDR devices with a vCenter server? I know about the limits of the VDR and probably I can achieve limit of 2 TB and only solution in this case use another camera VDR, but I don't know if it is possible to use more than a VDR with a vCenter.

You can use up to 10 of VDR with a VirtualCenter.

Look at the "VMware Data Recovery Administration Guide" on page 16:

    Special data recovery Compatibility Considerations:

Ten aircraft recovery backup of data for each instance of vCenter server.

An upgrade of potential of VMware Data Recovery from 1.2.x to 2.0 x?  I looked through the VDR documentation and there is no section on the upgrade.  I want to keep my existing backup definitions and data if possible.  Does anyone know if upgrade is possible and I have to start over again?  Please notify.

  • Backup the VMware Data Recovery backupstorage?

    Hello

Anyone who does backupstorage VMware data recovery backups to tape is?

We back up several virtual machines on a NAS via CIFS. I don't know why someone would be the backup to a vmdk if they have a single SAN. This would mean that your backup are on the same storage as virtual servers, you backupped.

VMware Data Recovery can keep track of the story according to your configuration. But if the NAS goes down, then you lose the history. My suggestion is to backup all the backupstorage on tape, but I wonder if it works. Do you need to take it apart if you are sure, that there is no dedup or optimization of processes running? A restore work? I want to say VMware Data Recovery will accept this 'old' storage and you only give access to the files? Because when you look at the backup storage, you'll see the files that don't resemble the original virtual machine.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

  • Types of backup destination VMware Data Recovery

IM test VMware Data Recovery and reading it can save to different destinations. Here's a sentence from of the Administrator's guide.

You can store backups on network, VMDK shares, or RDM.

The only option I see is the network share and make a folder called VMwareDataRecovery with other files and folders in it. If I backup more 1 VM to this nextwork share looks like it mixes everything together. I was under the impression that you can save in a file single vdmk.

The only options I have under VMware Data Recovery for Destinations are Refresh, add a share of Nework, Format, Mount, Unmount, Extend and integrity check

Remove you it from the virtual computer by means of the settings?  If so, have you selected the option to remove the virtual machine and remove the disc?  If you have them removed from the virtual computer through the settings, then you can delete browser data store.  It will come to your space.  Also, see IO errors is because you took the disk to the virtual machine without removing firstly by vDR Console's Configuration.

That said, I would do the following:

    1. Ensure that the VM vDR does not any VMDK attached other than the VMDK root which is 5 GB in size.

    2. Open the browser of data store and make sure that the former VMDK you created have disappeared.  If not, select them and click on delete.

    3. Go to the Configuration Console for vDR and look at Destinations of backup to make sure there is nothing there.  There should be nothing in the list of destinations, if there are, remove them.

    4. After checking the above, create a new size 15GB VMDK.

    5. Restart your virtual machine of vDR

    6. Go into the Console to Setup vDR and select the disk that you created in the backup Destinations, do a right click and select format.

    7. The size should report something similar to what my screenshot of previous shows.

I would like to know if that works for you!

If you have found this helpful at all prices please points using the correct or useful!  Thank you!

  • ESXi 4.1 + VMware Data Recovery 1.2 (without vCenter)

    Hello

I installed VMware Data Recovery 1.2 on my ESXi 4.1 and when I connect to VMware Data Recovery I get the message "connected to the ESX Server, automatic backups will not be made.

This means that scheduled backups only work if I receive vCenter? I without vCenter run backups manually?

That is right. vDR is configured to discover your VM inventory via vCenter. The vDR is designed to provide a central interface for your VM backup/restore via vCenter.  The cool thing about this is that vDR keep track of your virtual machines if you transfer them via vMotion, HA, DRS, etc. But, Yes, you NEED vCenter.

  • your processor does not support long mode. use a 32-bit Vmware Data Recovery distribution

    Hi all

When I tried to start VM in Vmware Data recovery, her gives me error as

"your cpu does not support long mode. use a 32-bit distribution"

I tried searching for the 32-bit version of data recovery, but not able to find out.

You can add a 64-bit host to a virtualized session of ESXi. The ability of VT is not transmitted to a guest operating system.

  • Programming Interface to call VMWare Data Recovery

    Hello

I wonder if there is no out-of-box API call VMWare Data Recovery.  In other words, if there is a way to simulate all the operations that we could do to vSphere, creating a backup task, by selecting several virtual machines, etc., go to run in a period of time, either programmatically or by command line.

    Thank you.

    Lei

as far as I know, no such API exists for vDR.

  • Deduplication before vSphere VMware data recovery 4

    Hi people,

I decided to give a try to the Vmware Data Recovery product. I have recently updated our 3.5 ESX to vSphere 4. I installed the plugin for recovering data and the device, and I think that it does not work as it is supposed to, but I have a question.

I read the documentation about the product to recover data and on page 8 of the admin guide, there is a note on the optimizations not applied to virtual machines created with vmware vSphere products 4.

I vmotioned my machines windows and upgarded their vmware tools and equipment of 7 virtual machine. I was wondering these machines were created with ESX 3.5 and now that I've migrated to vSphere 4, doesn't that mean that deduplication will not take place with data recovery products when I'm in my data store backup? or am I misunderstanding this?

    Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the forums.
