License to use Windows 7 upgrade Windows Vista to Windows 7.

Original title: Windows Vista to Windows 7.

My laptop running windows 7 is dead.  I want to know if I can update my old laptop on Vista, which I now have use to Windows 7 using the license key provided when I bought the laptop that is running Windows 7.  Windows Vista is the operating system that you are slower.  It seems that I wouldn't have to buy an additional license, especially if I'll still be run on a computer.  Thanks for any help and information on this topic.  PS: I am not currently interested in Windows 8 in all.

Hello

No.; You can't use it on another PC.

If the laptop/computer came with preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key provided with your computer/laptop to the OEM license preinstalled and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

Only retail Operating System license that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

See you soon.

Lol when you upgrade you send upwards with a license, not two. The license of Vista is subsumed in Windows 7 one and can no longer be used. This is the reason for which an upgrade is cheaper than licensed full.

  • Invalid # license when upgrading from vista to windows 7 using hp W7 Home Prem upgrade disc

    Hello

I bought your desktop at the end of Vista so I got a free upgrade to Windows 7, which made me send HP.

However, until the last days vista was work fine.  When he had problems, rather than research the issue, I finally used Windows 7 Home premium upgrade disk from HP that I got for free weeks after I bought my computer.

The upgrade went very WELL!  Until the end when W7 asked me my license number.  I entered the license number of Vista (which is the only one I have ever had - I have not received a license # with the upgrade).  Window 7 crossed the verifcation license and told me that my license number was invalid.

I tried to discuss with HP, but the site won't let me that my computer is no longer under warranty.

How can I go about solving this problem?  I have to call HP and get a license number or what?

  • I'll be able to install Windows 10 from scratch and use my Vista license to activate Windows 10?

Original title: 10 free for Vista Windows?

    Hello

I know that Windows 10 will be a free Windows 7 upgrade or 8/8.1 for the first year.  I run Vista Ultimate, and I would like to upgrade to Windows 10 as well.  I'm not interested in upgrading my Vista installation - it's almost 10 years and it's time to start over.  I'll be able to install Windows 10 from scratch and use my Vista license to activate Windows 10?  I totally understand don't want not to support an upgrade of a system of directly to 10 Microsoft Windows Vista, but Vista licenses will be able to 'upgrade' to Windows 10 licenses?  I have not found information on it online.  Everything speaks to us (ameioration) for Windows 7/8/8.1 for Windows 10.  It would be a shame for Microsoft to extend an olive branch to some legitimate users of Windows and others do not.

    Thank you

When important changes to your computer, for example an upgrade, it is always recommended that you back up your system before installing a new version of Windows. In your case, you can upgrade to Windows 7 depending on the edition and the architecture of Windows Vista, you have installed. If you are running a 32-bit version of Vista and upgrade to a 64-bit (Windows 7 edition) version, you'll have a pure make install, it is the opposite case.

If you are using Windows Vista Home Basic or Premium consumer editions, you can only upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. In addition, you can make downgrades, which means, if you are running Windows Vista Ultimate Edition now, you cannot downgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. You perform logical upgrades:

Windows Vista Home Basic > Windows 7 Home Basic, Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium > Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Professional, enterprise or ultimate edition

Windows Vista Business > Windows 7 Enterprise

Windows Vista Ultimate > Windows 7 Ultimate.

can I upgrade Edition Vista Home premium to windows 7 using vista anytime upgrade for free?

Lol you cannot use Anytime Upgrade upgrading Vista to Windows 7.   The Vista program to THE was the upgrade of a Vista edition to a higher edition of Vista only.  The Vista program to THE ended when Vista was removed from retail sales.  It has never been free.

THE present program is to upgrade an edition of Windows 7 to a superior and is only available to current users of Windows 7.

If you want to upgrade Vista to Windows 7, you must purchase a standard upgrade of Windows 7 at retail price.  Please see

    No, it will not work.

Windows 7 anytime upgrade: you have Vista or XP currently installed?

If the product you have Windows 7 'Anytime Upgrade' does not allow to move from XP/Vista to Windows 7. You can buy the product at retail of Windows 7 Upgrade not the ' Anytime Upgrade '.

Windows 7 'Anytime Upgrade' is for moving from one version of Windows 7 to a higher version, such as Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional.

  • How can I do an update instead of a new installation if you are using Windows Anytime Upgrade from Vista Home Premium, Vista Ultimate?

I have a server at home, but one of my main computers cannot remotely access because it is running Vista Home Premium.  As a result, I bought a Pack anytime upgrade to upgrade to Vista Ultimate.
When I ran the installer, it downloaded updates to update and then opens a screen where the options are updated or install fresh.  However, the update option is grayed out and there is a message at the bottom of the screen saying that if I want I must must upgrade to a newer version of Windows.
A new facility is out of the question for me.  I'm almost 2 years of work on the machine and it is set as I want.  I have a few training licenses, I don't think I'd be able to reinstall it.  Besides, I don't want to spend days and days software and reconfigure my system.
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine, but I want to leave this machine as a Vista machine.  At I throw my money on the upgrade pack or is there someway around this problem?

Looking for a difference in numbers/Service Pack levels.

If Service Packs came pre-installed on the operating system, there is no way to uninstall them.
You will need to swap the disk to upgrade to a later version that includes the missing Service Pack.

On your installed operating system Service Pack level cannot be greater than what is on the disk to upgrade.

Click Start > right click on computer > properties > system > it will tell you which SP you have install.

  • Bottom loading and use of the licensed version of Windows 7 instead of the licensed version of Windows vista Home premium on acer ferrari laptop

I use an Acer ferrari laptop model with windows vista home premium OS. I would like to know if I can do the free download and use windows 7 instead of windows vista in laptop (I understand that there is a similar model earlier). The laptop is used entirely for personal use @ home, not for purposes of Trade/office.

Windows Vista is to give a lot of problems even with installed virus scan software. It is slow and gives challenges to the use of household memebrs.

Many offered computer manufacturers free updates from Vista to Windows 7 on computers purchased during a certain period of time, but this time with the supply have long expired.  There is no such offer to download/update free available anywhere.

This upgrade to vista family premium is still available? is this useful? How much would it cost?

    * I just did a full factory restore, which helped.

but when I reinstalled the operating system, it wouldn't let me put in the same primary place on drive C?

I had to put it in a secondary partition and it saved a lot of old stuff and labeled "old windows"?

I do not understand why it does this. is there something in the old system files I need?

cause the entire purpose of the restoration was to get rid of all that. now, I have essentially 2 copies taking up room.

because he saved much of the old system files, there's no enough space in the main square.

Do you think I can manually remove the "old windows" copy C drive without doing any harm to the computer?

I did enter and delete all of the photos and docs & downloads which he recorded, that I didn't, with no negative consequences.

but it still has a lot of program/file system I fear not remove.i shouldn't need them... right?

everything I need should be there since the operating system reinstalled, I just did?

    Help?

    Marc Zanyk

By all means delete the windows.old folder.  Use disk cleanup.  You will find a box to check the detached, although it will not be called "windows.old" specifically.

It seems that your computer has a recovery partition.  You would not be able to install.

As for Home Premium, Yes, you can switch to HP.  If you can still find a copy.  Vista Express upgrade is no longer available since Vista is no longer available at a retailer.  However, you can find a copy on eBay.  Make sure you buy a retail copy and not an OEM copy.  You will not be able to update an OEM copy.  No matter if the copy of detail you find is a copy of full or upgrade license.  You'd still be able to do an upgrade in place with one or the other.

  • can upgrade you vista Home premium to vista professional in order to install windows 7 Professional upgrade?

Husband bought the windows 7 Professional upgrade.  Of course when it did not work and the message was to do a "clean install", we both had type light headed as we thought it that will take all day and probably does not work smoothly since is the most "literate" computer.  I did some internet research and according to microsoft, windows vista business upgrade to windows 7 Professional is an upgrade and not a clean install.  Is it useful to try and uprade my 64-bit edition windows Home premium windows vista professional in order to upgrade to windows 7 Professional?  I don't think we can get our money back because the packaging is open or I would say just that we trade it for ultimate.  If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.  Also I don't know even where to download vista business or haow only as much as it would cost.  Thanks in advance.

N ° there is no way to go from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional OR Vista business without what you call a 'clean install', so there is no point in spending money to upgrade to Home Premium to business before the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.  Upgrade Vista Home Premium only allowed on-site is ultimate.

Use Windows Easy Transfer to keep your files and settings.  Then, start the computer with the Windows 7 dvd installation and moving forward.  Do not remove Vista.  Windows 7 upgrade installation should detect a copy installed Windows so that you can use the upgrade product key.  Once you reach the installation type selection screen, you will see the upgrade option is grayed out.  Choose the custom option to continue.

If you want to do a clean install, you can use the tools on the installation type selection screen (until you click on custom) to reformat, etc., but this is not necessary if you don't mind remove the old Windows folder later.  If you start with a blank hard drive your upgrade license will be a problem then don't attempt is not a clean install of the old way.

  • It keeps rejecting my product key! (upgrade from Vista home premium 32 bit to Windows 7 64-bit).

Thus, as the title past Windows is not accepting my new Windows 7 product key. I bought the product key and copy (at the same time of course) of my college, as I am a computer SCIENCE student is trying to catch up. Anyway, if I get home and install my new Windows 7 SP1 (whatever that means) through "BIOS" because I've been upgraded to Vista Home premium 32-bit. When he asked my product key during the installation/installation that it wasn't working, I thought although it may need some updates or something. So I click on ignore and continue the installation. Then after all updates etc... I then try again the product key, and of course it does not work as most of the new technologies in this House works the first time. Please help, it's that some of become a nuisance. Thanks for reading :)

  • Reinstall Windows 7 after upgrading to Vista?

I have my old watch office that I've upgraded from Vista to Windows 7, and after 4 years I want to reinstall Windows 7 to start fresh. The Vista that was on it, I have the disc Version of OEMs and for Windows 7, I have the disk that was given to me by the technology that made the upgrade for me after that he did the upgrade. It was made by the upgrade online. J' have the product keys for both. My question is: what I have to reinstall the Vista using the disk of Vista (and key) and then go back and reinstall Windows 7 using the Windows 7 disc (and key) or can I just do a custom installation using the disc of Windows 7 only and the product key for this? I just want to wipe all of my drive and start again with nothing other than the Windows 7 above. I've moved to Windows 8 on my new computer, but want to keep my old machine running Windows 7 (I'm sure that all your diehard 7 users understand why!). Please let me know how to do this.

    Thank you

    Just make a custom installation:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.
