  Look at that for the features, it's at vSphere5 but outside the license of vRAM model most of the stuff is the same. So you will need minimum Enterprise license.

  I have 3 hosts ESXi 4 (free) and do the jump to vCenter server. As part of the last server HP ordered, we got to host vSphere Essentials Plus 3 license. I used the activation code to generate license keys on the vmware.com website portal. I also downloaded and installed vCenter using VMware-VIMSetup-all - 4.0.0 - 208156.zip file

  My question is how to apply licenses on the vmware license portal, I see 2 licenses:

  vCenter Server 4 essentials (1 instance) and vSphere 4 Essentials Plus (6 CPU).

  So, clearly the essentials vCenter Server license is installed on the vCenter server. What the essentials most license? Is this also on the server? Have I not to enter certain licenses on each host?  I thought as essentials over the server vCenter license?

  One with 6 processors listed - you can convert?  When I first came to vCenter Foundation, I had a license for vCenter Server and 6 CPU license for vSphere 4 Adv (1 key).  What I had to do was to convert and you can choose how many processors to generate a key for.  Once I did it for 3 guests, I have now 3 license keys.  1 for each host with 2 processors.

  I hope that wasn't confusing.  Let me see if I can get a screenshot.

  as you probably know, the license of endpoint vShield is now includede in all editions of vSphere 5.1 and kits (besides essentials).

  I am about to install Trend Micro deep Security on a vSphere installation 5.0. Now someone if you must upgrade to vSphere 5.1 to have vShield endpoint licenses available or if you can stay on 5.0?

  My problem is that TrendMicro Deep Security 9.0 (which supports vSphere 5.1) is not yet published. Deep Security 8.0 doesn't support vSphere 5.1 - only vSphere 5.0.

  I'm not aware of a limitation for the Essentials Kits. The only one I can think of with a limit of one per site is an acceleration Kit.

  Anyway, if you consider three Kits Essentials more, it may be useful to check if the benefits of vCenter Server more ESXi Standard licenses justifies the price difference.

  Enterprise Plus allows you to assign 8 vCPUs, Enterprise and bottom - 4.

  It does not matter the number of cores is on each physical processor. The only requirement - the total number of cores must be greater than or equal number of vCPUs you want to give a VM. So 2 quads allows you to create 8 vCPU VM.

  vSphere is licensed per socket. So for your server, you will need to purchase licenses vSphere 4.

  price depends on the edition you purchase (standard, enterprise, enterprise +)

  The boss has bought a few licenses vSphere 4 Essentials PLUS to cover our two guests of dual processer and a spare part for future scalability (it was all before I got there btw.) I'm the new IT guy ) we finally had the end of last week and I went and deployed the License Center forget the hosts. Came to do today and keep said I can't use this as VMotion is powered. SO I checked the virtual switch on two hosts to see what the script was there and they where not enabled for vmotion.

  That brings me to now, any suggestions before I find myself out of time eval: P (13 days)

  Have you checked all your exchanges for VMotion vmkernel? Also, try to disconnect/connect your hosts again after being sure that it is not all vmotion enabled.
