vSphere Enterprise license with vCenter 5 Standard edition 5
Guys quick question
can I add a vSphere Enterprise 5 (or more) allowed a couple of new hosts (especially need FT and DRS) in conjunction with vSphere standard licenses already in service (and you want to keep) under a vCenter Standard edition 5?
Thank you
I don't see a problem with running differently licensed hosts on one instance of vCenter server. Due to different features, you will need to place them in separate well groups. With respect to the vRAM, I understand how it vRAM is pooled by license type, then you will end up with two swimming pools.

vSphere Enterprise Plus &; SMP 8 licenses see
Hi all
This post is to understand in some detail more added functionality SMP 8 channels with the purchase of the vSphere enterprise than allowed.
We just bought a new battery of vSphere with Enterprise license (guests are taken-2, 4-cores CPU based) and upgrade to vSphere another battery of existing ESX 3.5 servers (hosts are 4 socket, 4 core based processors).
We know that, according to the license of the company, we will be able to assign our VMs a maximum of 4 vCPUs each (and up to 6 cores per physical processor).
Should upgrade us to Enterprise Plus licensing, what would the number of vCPU max we can give in to a virtual machine in each of our farms? Would he still be 4 (since our CPUs are anyway all 4 cores) or 8 (for both the 'old' farm hosts 4 4-cores and the new farm-based based on 2 hearts 4 guests)?
In fact it is not clear to me if the maximum number of vCPU is always equal to the number of physical processor cores (e.g.: max vCPU & lt; = carrots/physical CPU AND max vCPU & lt; = 8) or not.
For example, I would have a crowd of vSphere license-powered Enterprise Plus and ewuipped with 2 processors 6 hearts, vCPU how can I assign to a VM as a maximum? 6 or 8?
Thank you very much for your help.
Best regads,
Salvatore
Enterprise Plus allows you to assign 8 vCPUs, Enterprise and bottom - 4.
It does not matter the number of cores is on each physical processor. The only requirement - the total number of cores must be greater than or equal number of vCPUs you want to give a VM. So 2 quads allows you to create 8 vCPU VM.

Upgrade to ESXi 5.1 (free version) to vSphere Enterprise Plus 5.1
I've been running the free version of ESXi for a few years now and I am currently on version 5.1. Recently, I decided to buy Enterprise Plus licenses to take advantage of features such as vShield and agent less backups.
in any case, I loaded the new license in vSphere client and it shows now all the options available in Enterprise Plus. The profile of the iMage is ESXi - 5.1xxxx - standard. Is it enough just to load the new license or is there a different image that I need to use instead?
If it's a different picture can I put it on top of what is installed without losing the guests?
THX!
It won't matter. Host---> Configuration---> Licensed features---> if it shows more Enterprise, then you will have all the features. I have attached a screenshot to show what he looks like. If it's the same then you don't have to worry.

vCentre with vSphere Enterprise and vCentre with vSphere Enterprise Plus
We used 4 * VMware ESX Enterprise 3.5 U4 with Center Virtual v2.5 to our datacenter keys for 2 years. With the release of vSphere we have upgraded to vSphere Enterprise with vCentre since we had bought maintenance for 3 years.
Now let's deploy another 4 * vSphere Enterprise more than servers in one of our other data centers in another location and use of the vCentre same server as our key data center. Two data centers are connected via an MPLS connection.
My query is what is happening with regard to the two lic. and the characteristics of vCentre/vSphere so we have a places vSphere Enterprise Clusters and in another site running a vSphere Enterprise clusters rained for two configurations of the plant as the vSwitch distributed with Ent to a network running. More and the other added features more from the company. What happens if we use the Cisco Nexus 1000 what impact also who have on the global configuration if a site is running Enterprise and other companies.
And also how should I handle the licenses of some of my servers are Ent. and others are Ent. More?
Thank you very much
Of course also take into account the fact that you can't mix and match servers with different levels of license
For example: If you use enterprise more to Host Profiles and dvSwitch - you can't have the ESX hosts with a lower level of the license in the same cluster

This is info from the doc. Enterprise has been left just by mistake?
VMware data recovery offerings
VMware data recovery is included in vSphere Enterprise Plus, advancedand Essentials Plus editions.
VMware data recovery can also be purchased la carte with vSphere Standard Edition.
Thank you

It included, take a look at this comparison chart: http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/buy/editions_comparison.html

Do I really need a server license 5.0 vcenter for my vsphere Enterprise 5.0
Hi all, im new to the Forum vmware and encryption currently in terms of licensing for our small internal data center facility.
My physical features are for licensing
Guests: 2Number of CPUS: 4by CPU core: 6For each host RAM: 32 GB will later expand to 64 GBand a device to IBM SANIf I purchase 4 licenses of the company and need to use the FT features and HA I really need the server vcenter license for that? What will miss if I do not buy the license of vcenter server?Buy licenses without any SnS that it's expensive, and we want to keep to a bare licensing.I thank in advanceIt will be possible to lower the cost even more far by going to an ENT AK but with vsphere Foundation? instead of the standard... or is it a fixed regime that cannot be changed.
The Kits are sold as announced. These are especially price of starter kits that can be purchased once per site. What other discounts can I ask my distributor to provide other than VPP.
Can't help you on this. I'm not even sure if you can get the volume for only 4 licenses processor licensing more vCenter Server. If above our list price no idea what sort of profit my distribution partner for vmware will do about that? How are they able to cite much less than these rates mentioned above!I don't think you will get an answer to these questions. Not sure what your company product, but I'm sure that you don't tell your clients how much profit you make on your products.André -
Problems with ESX VSphere Enterprise license more
Hi, I have a host ESX 4.0 with 2 processor that is running under eval. I bought 2 x 1 processor license (I'm told that you can not buy a 1 x processor 2 licenses, you must purchase a separate license for each processor).
I downloaded the keys, but when I entered I get the error "the entered license key doesn't have a capacity of this entity).
I'm guessing it's because vSphere knows the host with two processors, but I can get only one key at a time by the processor he does like this?
Hi Matt,
If you have two keys, you should be able to combine your licenses in a single key. Go to the website of VMware license portal web and generate your new key.
It will be useful.

Licensing question vSphere fast 5
I'm a bit confused with the vSphere licenses 5. Am I right assuming, for a 5 of vSphere Essentials Plus Kit, the maximum RAM for each physical processor is 32 GB? And that the total amount of RAM through the three physical hosts cannot exceed 192 GB (IE 6 x x 32 GB physical processors / CPU = 192 GB of vRAM shared?)
I try to cover:
3 x Dell servers
each with:
2 x Xeon 8 processors (per Server = 6 physical CPU total)
44Gb RAM (Server = 132 GB in total, less than the total amount of 192 GB for Essentials?)
This should be covered by an essentials more kit right? Or did I read it wrong?
I read that someone citing licenses of the company for a similar setup is to say 6 x company licesnes (I'm asusming for 6 physical processors on the physical hosts 3 x?)
Not sure why they would need enterprise license considering that would be nearly double the price of the essential?
All answers are appreciated
That's right
You get a 32GB vRAM right by CPU Socket
This will give 64 GB per host and 192 GB queued in your case which is all good.

Tests of VSA - license included in Enterprise Plus?
Hi guys
At my work, we want to test the ASB of VMware with vSphere's new version 5. We have an available Enterprise Plus license for our configuration of vSphere, but we would like to know if the ASB is automatically terminated with the Enterprise Plus or if we must acquire a license VSA...
VSA is no not part of the company liked... you will need to buy it separately. There is also a v1 product and there are a few limitations he...

SRM with vSphere Enterprise and vSphere Advanced
Hello
I saw the FAQ license RS saying that SRM requires no vSphere all be of the same edition and features will be affected by which edition is used.
Which raises a number of questions in my mind. For example if my environment is as such:
- Production site with multiple ESX using Enterprise Plus with Nexus 1000V
- Recovery site with several ESX using Advanced edition
- Enough to set up for two sites license SRM and vCenter
I guess that network should not much question, as I can manually map the port network group on the recovery plan.
So my questions:
- Can I configure manually this ESX made uses SRM for commissioning virtual machines running the recovery plan?
- I don't have a DRS on the DR site to distribute virtual machines and use all the resources.
- What happens when SRM tries to start a virtual machine with more than 4vCPU in the DR site?
- Advance Edition limited my VMs to 4vCPU
See you soon,.
IsabelleYour correct indeed neglected the advanced part, DRS is not supported. But another question for you: do you only use the equipment have the Dr site for DR purposes or you also make use of the material for other purposes as for example the test? Is it not that you can always create a business case to buy a license of the company and use the site of recovery for test purposes. In case a disaster occurs and a failover is invoked, you can add stimulus to stop your test virtual machines on the recovering site, before the SRM protected VM. This way make you full use of all the material on the protégé and the recovering site.
Looking at your question again, it makes me think. If you create a cluster on the recovering site and map this cluster cluster on the protected site. All virtual machines that are protected will be started on the cluster during failover. OK you won't have DRS so resources are not distributed on the hosts, but they run and computers vMotion virtual host to another, you can manually.
Point which is that you want to map individual VMS to ESX host, making your your design SRM very complex and difficult to maintain. Rather go for mapping clusters and take account of the fact that you have to manually virtual computers vMotion between host computers to create a balanced distribution of resources (or buy some DRS). It makes your life a lot easier.

Can I create with vSphere Enterprise Edition distributed vNetwork distributed switch?
From the following URL, I wonder whether we can create vNetwork distributed switch with our existing Enterprise Edition.
http://www.VMware.com/products/vSphere/buy/editions_comparison.html
If the answer is YES, could any elaborate colleague on "Enabler for 3rd party switch support? Currently, we use DELL switches.
Thank you
as said Enterprise Plus license is necessary for a vNetwork Distributed Switch. You can create one under Enterprise license, but don't be fooled, you can not use.
Maybe VMware one day will remove the ability to create even one based on the license model.
