Licensing question vSphere fast 5
I'm a bit confused with the vSphere licenses 5. Am I right assuming, for a 5 of vSphere Essentials Plus Kit, the maximum RAM for each physical processor is 32 GB? And that the total amount of RAM through the three physical hosts cannot exceed 192 GB (IE 6 x x 32 GB physical processors / CPU = 192 GB of vRAM shared?)
I try to cover:
3 x Dell servers
each with:
2 x Xeon 8 processors (per Server = 6 physical CPU total)
44Gb RAM (Server = 132 GB in total, less than the total amount of 192 GB for Essentials?)
This should be covered by an essentials more kit right? Or did I read it wrong?
I read that someone citing licenses of the company for a similar setup is to say 6 x company licesnes (I'm asusming for 6 physical processors on the physical hosts 3 x?)
Not sure why they would need enterprise license considering that would be nearly double the price of the essential?
All answers are appreciated
That's right
You get a 32GB vRAM right by CPU Socket
This will give 64 GB per host and 192 GB queued in your case which is all good.
Please allow points to useful/correct answers

vCenter VDI Licensing questions
Hello
Basically, my question is if a standard of vCenter license can manage hosts with VDI and Non - VDI workload without violating the EULA.
For a more detailed explanation, please see below:
Thank you very much in advance
concerning
Luis
----
Environment:
-vSphere 4
-Cisco UCS
Customer has acquired the following licenses:
-1 vCenter server standard (Cisco OEM)
-vSphere Enterprise Plus for 16 cores (Cisco OEM)
also, as VDI will run on the VI client thus acquired a set of 5 view come with:
-1 Server vCenter for VDI
-See the first 5 Add - on licenses (200)
-vSphere Enterprise more to View 5 (200)
The current implementation has a unique vCenter and 8 blades, divided into two groups:
-6 guests for Admin more application VMs
-2 VMS VDI host
Scenario has):
-If we use the vCenter VDI license, according to the "View4LicensingFAQ.PDF" of VMware, support Non - VDI running in a VDI VI is not allowed (see below)
Q: can I run other workloads from server on the vSphere which is included in the view?
A: No. vSphere and vCenter beam view components are limited to desktop deployments. A desktop virtual machine is defined as a virtual machine that is running the following operating systems:
Windows 95/98, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista business, or Windows Vista business, Windows 7.
The only exception to this rule are the elements that make up the virtualized infrastructure Fund (View Manager, vCenter Server, a Broker for the connections and/or management and tools used for Virtual Machine (s) of Office ESX hosted within an operating system of a server performance monitoring only). Download the EULA here for details http://www.vmware.com/download/eula/.
Scenario B):
-If we use the Standard-vCenter vCenter license, according to the "View4LicensingFAQ.PDF" of VMware this is not recommended (see below)
Can Q: you the customer mix vSphere hosts who have licenses from the beams of the view and vSphere license via vSphere la carte?
R: a mixed environment is not recommended because there is risk of workloads server live-migration of a cluster of vSphere (via VMware vMotion™) in a scenario of disaster recovery for a license to view vSphere host, what would constitute a violation of the EULA. Guests are asked to keep their separate environments or buy to the map view to entitle the deployment of a mixed environment vSphere, vCenter, and licenses.
Leaving apart from the facts that:-View licenses need to be reclassified from vSphere5 in vSphere4
-The client may have bought more than necessary licenses
My thoughts are:
- -I have not read anywhere that the use of a Standard-vCenter to cover the VDI and the workload of Non - VDI is not possible at the technical level.
- -I'm not 100% sure that it is aligned with the EULA
- -Similar situation for ESXi hosts accommodation VDI VMs licenses
If you use the view bundle vCenter only VDI workloads are allowed. If you use vCenter who bought outside of the whole of the display, you can run anything you want with it.

Unity double switch integration - licensing question unity 4.0 (3)
Unity double switch integration - licensing question unity 4.0 (3)
The unit was sold as a single IP integration. My client needs Dual Switch with an Ericsson PBX. I received the license key of ORC, and I opened a folder of TAC.
TAC said that the license file will not allow installation double switch integration. The Cisco SE on the account indicates that the license key will allow me to make the integration of the double switch.
Who is right? I heard that the moderator here has all the answers :)
The is correct. Any customer with a license 4.0 can do double switch. You don't need a special permit.
Thank you

Dear.
We have a witch of cluster HA vsphere 4.1 has 3 hosts with 2 processors.
We want to add 2 guests with 2 processors each to this cluster, but when I add the license error appears: license is not valid for this product.
This is the license: VMware vSphere Enterprise 5 for 1 processor (with 64 GB vRAM) right by processor
Is this the wrong license...
Thanks for the reply
best regrads
Sjef
Yes, you will need another license. If you have a two hosts, you will need a license of 2 Sockets.

Newbie - ESXi Hypervisor v5 but the license question is v4?
I am a newbie of VMWare, has received licenses for VSphere 4 Enterprise Plus and VCenter Server 4.
As a result, I went to the site web download ESXi 4.1 vmware.com hypervisor to install on my Dell of bare metal server. When you select "Download", it shows a page to download ESXi 5.0.
From the web since I downloaded 5.0 ESXi hypervisor requires I guess it works with licenses v4 that I registered, but I wanted to confirm that there is backward compatibility. Or I have to put the hand on ESXi 4.1 hypervisor?
Thank you.
V - nice
BTW. If you want to use version 4.1, you will be able to download this by clicking on the link

New user vSphere Hypervisor license Question.
I realize, it's maybe a stupid question, but the free license, I received for ESXi said 5 licenses of the Machine. It's that 5 guests? or 5 virtual machines on a single host?
Thank you.
In fact, there is no such limitations. The current version is only limited to 32 GB memory physical host and some lower limits for virtual machines (e.g. max. 8 vCPUs/VM). Also, you will have limited access API, which prevents to use most based virtual machine backup solutions. For more details, see Getting Started with Free VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) .

vSphere/ESXi licensing questions
I have improved my Foundation 2.5 Server vCenter to vSphere 4.0. The Foundation Server managed a single host VMware ESXi 3.5. After I updated, I added a HP ESXi 4.0 host. ESXi 3.5 host gets its license to a central license server. ESXi 4.0 host has a 60-day evaluation license. I looked at the license for the HP ESXi host tab and noticed that the only licensing option is to enter a key. My first question is, ' is it possible to use a centralized with vSphere 4.0 and ESXi 4.0 license server? I downloaded the distribution for the ESXi 4.0 HP host so that I can get for my HP hardware monitoring agents. I have to go back to HP to get a key for this host?
Thank you
Greg
The license server is necessary unless you continue to use 3.5 hosts.
ESXi 4 can be a free license - sign up for vmware for a free license code - but it can then be managed from vCentreServer, only the direct vSphereClient, which has characteristics of low-cut. Having said that there are many uses for the features single and manage only one host at a time by the customer.
Please aware points to any useful answer.

We are currently conducting environment vSphere with vCenter Server 5 5 (using the VCSA). My vSphere, ESXi licensing have the right to upgrade to vSphere 6, but is not my vCenter license. After further review, we have seen that the SnS support contact us on our vCenter license had expired in January 2015, so we went ahead and got that renewed back support. My question is, now that we have renewed the support we may update this license vCenter vCenter license 5 6 or we will have to buy a new license of vCenter 6 new? I checked my VMware Licensing Portal and this shows that we have supported on vCenter 2018 license, but I don't see any option upgrade to this topic. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the community,
as far as I know all the licenses that are (or were taken over at the time a new version was released) by an active subscription can be upgraded. When you select "Update license keys" in the drop down menu "I want", you should be able to select and upgrade your vCenter Server license.

License question - do need me a VSAN license for all hosts in a cluster?
I have a 6 host cluster exist using the VSphere Essentials Plus package with a single server VCenter. Can I buy x VSAN 3 licenses, for example to add the storage to the 3 hosts I have install the VSAN license on and access the VSAN of the 3 other hosts in the cluster data store? (Assuming only 1 CPU for each host.)
Thank you!
Hi Daniel,.
Since Virtual SAN is activated at the level of a cluster, all cluster hosts can consume storage since the virtual SAN data store regardless of how many guests contribute to storage. So to answer your question, you need all 6 hosts in your cluster license, even though only 3 of them contributed storage.
Also note that the licenses are per CPU so in your scenario if each host has 2 CPUs, you need a total of 12 CPU licenses. I hope this helps.

A new doubt on the license - VMware vSphere Essential Kit
Hi guys,.
I play virtualize physical servers in the company I work (about 10 smaller servers).
To start some tests, I bought a Dell r.620 server with two processors and 64 GB of RAM.
I think buy just one license of VMware vSphere Essential Kit, just to test some features, management, and support provided by VMware.
My doubt is: to support all the RAM (64 GB), I have purchase a license of the vSphere Essential Kit, or I need TWO?
I'm a little confused on how much physical RAM memory on a single server, the vShpere Essential Kit can handle.
OK, I know I can use a free version. But this test server will be transformed into a production server, and that the price of the vSphere Essential Kit is very good, I would buy it and start my test as a test of "production"...
Guys, sorry for my bad English, it is not my mother tongue. =(
Thanks much for any help.
Hi Alex,
Since you are doing a test on a single server so a Kit should be good at this point. In addition to Essential Kit do not fully support 64 GB of RAM so no need to buy two. Only the free versions have limits in support of only 32 GB of RAM.
Diagram below will give you a good idea on the different Kits.
Also, you can read about licensing and prices here: http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/products/vsphere/VMware-vSphere-Pricing-Whitepaper.pdf
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Cannot assign VMWare Essentials-PLUS license, says "vSphere FT" in use.
I am desperately trying to activate VMWare Essentials plus, but when I try to asssign the key to these two hosts ESXi 5.0.0 get:
License may not be assigned, features in use: vSphere FT
The other key "In VSphere VMWare Server" just assigned very well.
That amounts to two questions:
How remove vSphete FT, even when disabling HA completely it always says "are in use."
I was informed by a representative of VMWare "Fault Tolerance" is included in Essentials, but the reality seems to be different. So either I have a technical problem or we have been deceived.
Any information to clarify what is happening is appreciated.
Check the configuration of your network on the host, especially the VMKernel ports and make sure that you have not accidentally activate the checkbox "logging Fault Tolerance.

I have ESXi 5.0 upwards and running with a new installation, leva Vsphere client and go and I cannot figure out where to put my license key. In 4.0, it is under the administration, but in 5.0, I just roles and newspapers, no license. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated
I feel like this is a stupid question and miss me just something, but for the life of me, I can't find where to put the license. And, Yes, I searched on the community.
- Connection to the ESXi 5.0 directly using vSphere Client host.
- Click host ESXi 5.0 in the inventory, and then choose the Configuration tab.
- In the configuration tab click allowed under the software features.
- On the right side you will see change the hyperlink, click on it.
- Click on assign a new license key to the host, and then click the Enter key
- Enter the license key, and then click OK twice.
- Now you should see all the features of the product in your license.

Foundation vCenter license question
There are four servers, that we want to use as a vSphere ESXi hosts.
VMWare vSphere Advanced Acceleration Kit (6 CPU) license includes vCenter Foundation licenses which supports up to three ESX host. What happens if we add a fourth ESXi host (if that's even possible)?
Would it always be included with the other three, except with features like 'HA/VMotion"unavailable etc.?
Silly question, but both of my dealers give me different answers.
Thank you
you get an error something like "insufficient license to...." "When you try to add the host fourth to your inventory of Foundation.

Hey guys,.
Just a quick question on Labview student of license. I have the 2010 student software package and I was wondering if its possible to install in on a desktop and laptop at the same time with the same license.
All the best,
Tom
The general license contract should have been included with LabVIEW software. If you don't, you can read it here: http://www.ni.com/legal/license. For the Student Edition license you can install it on 3 computers. It's the same as a regular license "named" for the edition of non-students of LabVIEW.
