Lightroom 6.5 - very slow import

I've been running Lightroom on my iMac for years, since LR3.  I upgraded LR6 and El Capitan, and he worked very well until about 6.5 LR who showed some problems.  I'm on LR 6.6 and El Capitan 10.11.5 now and it has not been resolved.

IMPORT is EXTREMELY slow.  I shoot events and it took about 15-20 minutes to import a full 32 GB card.  Now, it takes an hour or more.  It also takes a lot more time to build previews than before.

In addition, the files are is imported in a random order, not based on their timestamp.  So if I rename files when importing file sequencing is not in order when I sort by capture time.  I solved in don't rename does not then import, and after importing I sort by capture time and apply my naming conventions, a step that save me time when import is now of no use.

None of my equipment or the workflow has changed.  I shoot with a Nikon D600 and D750, always NAVE.  Import to the local HD.  The rest of my computer works well.  I am so incredibly surprised by the giant latency import has now.   The amount of time it takes is atrocious.

Thoughts?

This issue should be fixed in the 2015.6.1 CC update that went live today. Please upgrade to Lightroom to the latest version.

  • Lightroom develop Mode very slow to respond to commands

When I try to get a photo ready to print and I am in the window to develop, the response time when I try to make adjustments to the phots are not acceptable. Very, very slow and almost impossible to accomplish what I need to do to get the photo in print mode. I have a blockage somewhere but I am at a loss to know how to fix this problem. Any help greatly appreciated

Issa, john brings a very valid point

I had some problems not unlike yours, and all that was needed was an update for my Nvidia driver.

Because I updated the driver, my lightroom {and computer} runs smooth as silk.

You can check, to see if a new driver is available...

I hope that wiser member with chime in here?

  • Lightroom 3.3 very slow export performance - help?

    Hello

Last night, I installed the patch 3.3 and I began to edit the value of a day of pictures. Everything seemed fine until I went to export photos. I had only 140 photos, exported as jpg, 800 x 600, 72 dpi, while they were quite small. Normally it would take upt 5 minutes to do, but last night after about an hour, it was only 36% of fact. On top of that my whole system slowed and frozen, and I had to reboot. Export the remaining photos took another hour, so restarting does not solve the problem.

If there isn't a fix published soon, I have to downgrade to 3.2, but I don't know how to do this. My business is suffering because of this.

I'm operating a fast processor on a PC with 4 GB of RAM so I should be fine. The performance was excellent until the recent upgrade, and I have not installed anything recently.

    Help!

    Hello world

I just stumbled upon this very exact problem. Export of lot of 378 points jpg resized and LR 3.3 minutes filled my SSD with 40 GB of data scratch/temp and was only about 150 items in the export process.

Since I rarely use the 'Limit File Size To' option in the dialog box export jpg, I could quickly identify it as the culprit (at least on my system).

Turning off this option returns LR 3.3 to its normal operating speed without creating a huge temp files.*

Hope this indication is useful in some way and report if this workaround works on your system.

  • Lightroom 6 made very slow

I have recently upgraded to Lightroom 6 and found that rendering previews takes about twice as long as 5 Lightroom. I have an iMac with screen Retina 5 K and Lightroom says that the GPU is enabled in the settings. I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same problem, because I thought that this version of Lightroom was meant to be faster.

    Hi kylegherman,

Suggest you update your graphics card drivers and check then the same.

Just updated LR 4-6, so I find lightroom does not not like before. LR 6 is very slow at the start, whenever I pass 'Library' to 'Develop' or import images, the Apple beach ball will roll for a few minutes first. My iMac uses OS X version 10.10.5 are all these compatibility issues?  What should I do to make it work better the lightroom?

  • Release of Lightroom CC 2015.6 VERY SLOW!

    Hi guys,.

I use Lightroom CC 2015.6 contacted Camera RAW 9.6 out of 10 Pro 64 bit and I have pretty decent rig: i7 6950 X (10 carrots), Asus Radeon Strix 1080 GTX, 64 GB 3200 RAM, SSD on PCI.  'Use the graphics processor' is enabled in my preferences of LR, but I don't see an important when different it is turned off.

First of all it takes LR about 3-4 seconds per image to build 1:1 previews, which means several hours if I have thousands of images from a shoot.

When I try to get a glimpse of some of the images at 100%, and to quickly move between them it works fine for maybe 5 minutes and then it starts to slow down: it takes LR seconds to create each preview and also from seconds to move between images. Furthermore, the previews are 3840px in size and average quality.

In Manager tasks I can see that at the start after start LR uses only 5-10% of my CPU resources and about 2 to 5 GB of RAM, but after a few minutes the use of RAM increases 15-20 GB and that's when LR becomes very slow. It seems he keeps each image previewed in memory and not release to the system when I close the preview.

I also tried another software to compare and other programs were significantly faster (Aftershot Pro is the fastest, followed by DXO Optics Pro and Capture One).

So it seems that this problem is strictly linked to the software and not to my material at all. Also, I noticed that after the recent updates, so I wonder if relling until one of the earlier versions might help.

Ideas to improve my experience with the latest edition of LR?

I'm really scared, because I don't really have time to wait for the software when working on thousands of images each week.

Your response will be appreciated. Thank you!

Adobe Lightroom GPU troubleshooting and FAQ

    https://helpx.Adobe.com/Lightroom/KB/Lightroom-GPU-FAQ.html

You have your system configured to save all 1:1 previews in your catalog for ever? I set mine to delete every 30 days, so I don't have all that stored somewhere in a cache with LR.

Because it goes so slow down anyway I don't think you have much to lose by trying to clear your cache. But read up on it before making this decision.

In addition, if your photos are stored on an external I wonder if there is a problem with this external hard drive bus speed?

Or if it's all beings stored on your local disk with the OS and applications, maybe it's having a shape any conflict with something the OS or a partner app? Do you think these performance issues when other applications are turned off? Just think-tanking with you here because it seems to have no else responded yet.
Hope of those is the solution.

  • Slow importing photos Lightroom

Hi I use Adobe CC when I import pictures from my memory card directly from the computer card reader into Lightroom 15 import is very slow

I use a PC Windows recently installed Win 10. My hard drive storage is aprox 50% X 4 4 GB Ram processor 640 3.00 GHZ.

It took more than an hour to import 30 images I take Raw and JPEG using 95 MB/s of san disk card.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Thanks Peter

Looks like you have a faulty drive or camera card. Try another material to do the import.

recently purchased a samsung NX30 camera which came with lightroom 5, after several hours of searching on Google I got it setup properly with the right camera raw to be able to access my raw images. I found that my old laptop is very slow during the processing of hundreds of images that I usually take on a weekly basis.  I bought a new faster laptop, but when I looked for the cd with the software of series and I couldn't find in the mess of Christmas.  I downloaded a trial version of lightroom and got, it works on my new laptop. Is there a way to access the serial number of my version already installed and insert it in the version of track to make it work for me?

    Myron

If you take the time to register to your original with Adobe installation (which most people do not), you can log in to your Adobe account and get the serial number. If you use a Windows computer and still have access to the old computer where Lightroom is installed, you can do the following:

    1. in the window folder options, make sure that you are able to see hidden folders.

    2. go to the C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Lightroom folder.

    3. use Notepad to open the file, Lightroom 5.0 Registration.lrreg

You will be able to retrieve your serial number of this file.
