Lightroom backup

Hello

I have 5 Lightroom on Windows 64-bit and you have a question about the backup of catalogs in lightroom.

I had little space on my pc, so once I changed myphotos, I want to take on the other hard drive with the settings I made in the lightroom. Is it possible to recover these settings in lightroom after I have backup copy, my photos already amended in the lightroom? I mean if I copy the Images and the backup file on hd and remove them from my pc? Lightroom he read again? Thank you

Yes, it is possible, but do yourself a favor... when the photos come out of the camera, put them on your other hard drive, straight out of the camera and work with them. don't put on the hard drive internal, then move them later to another hard drive.

To make use of your changes to a photo that has been moved to another location, please follow these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

  • On lightroom backups

I just found out that my lightroom backups weighs more than 50 GBs that kills my computer and put LR terribly slow.

Anyone know if this is normal? How do I size?

I use LR 2.5 and I have about 30 000 RAW images in the catalog.

    Thanks 4 your help

I think you're confused backups of catalogues LR (essentially the metadata that LR is used to treat an image) and back ups of real image files themselves. Two very different things.

You LR Cataloguez back ups that are created according to the schedule you set in preferences are just back ups of the catalog, not the image files themselves. These will be located where ever you led LR to put and would generally be on a different disk whenever your work catalog is located. They will usually separate folders created and named with the date of their creation. You only really need to keep the last two or three of them if everything works well, the others can be deleted.

Previews of LR data do not get saved by LR and you need not really back this up, as LR can regenerate previews whenever you need them.

Image files themselves can be saved on importation otherwise LR itself does not return files. Always make sure that you have at least two copies of each file, in different places is basic in any workflow. I have three. That in my catalog files located on an external drive for use with my laptop and my office. A copy of all the files carried out upon importation of an internal hard drive kept for that purpose and a copy of all the files on a web server.

Regarding the conversion to the format DNG is going on that it can be done import or at any time within LR. With files not in a LR catalog, this can be done using the free DNG Converter software.

You will find useful tips by clicking Help in LR, it comes to the page that discusses the backups.

  • Can automatically Lightroom backup originals to another disk when importing the photos?

I want to save my photos on an extra HD to get a chest to the top of the original.

Of course I can do it with Time Machine, but can I also do to the time when I import photos into lightroom?

Yes, see the capture screen. The choice is available in the high import dialog on the right side. See the screen capture.

  • Big file called Lightroom backup? It's almost 70 concerts!

I opened this file expecting to see all the photos that I have worked on but which is not normal because I have a terabyte almost full of RAW files. What are things like in this huge file?

LR creates a backups folder and in a folder with the date and time of the backup. In this folder, you will find a copy of the catalog (*.lrcat) or in the case of LR6 a compressed copy of the catalogue.

You can remove old s you like - at your own risk and perils - after making sure that they really are your old backups.

Easier to do is of course to open LR and set its options of catalog to create a backup at each end. If you close now LR it shows you the path to your backups in the backup dialog box.

  • Lightroom CC backup on external hard drive Seagate

My Seagate hard drive is perfectly functional, make backups of several programs, including CClone, Joelle, and Time Machine.

Yet when I recently tried to backup a catalog from Lightroom CC, I get the following error message.

"Lightroom is unable to create a folder for your exports in the location you have chosen. Please select a different location. »

Lightroom has no problem backup up to my 2 TB Lacie external hard drives.

I use a Mac Pro with the latest version of the OS

Can you guide me through this?

This is the location you have chosen, IE the folder on the drive. Create a new folder on this drive called Lightroom backups and LR point in this folder to make its backups to. In Finder Right click on the new folder that you created and make sure that your username has both read + write permission.

Also, it's a bad idea to have a single drive for Time Machine and store other files on this disc. Time Machine should have it own dedicated player to do back ups for that is not used for anything else.

  • No images when restoring the backup.

I want to install Lightroom 4 (upgrade to 4.4) on a new SSD with Windows 10 which is supposed to be compatible. I always saved my catalog on an external hard drive, but when I go to open the backup with LR catalog, I have no Images or previews. The file structure and image file names are there, but not images at all. What I am doing wrong?

Lightroom backup procedure only creates a backup of the 'file Lightroom Catalog"the catalog file that is data file containing information on your original files, where they are and the changes and all the work you've done with them. It has a file extension .lrcat

    (LRCAT, Lightroom Catalog abbreviation).

The catalog file does contain all the image files or copies.

Backups of your Original Image and Copies files must be backed up separately.

Preview the files are found in the file with the same name as the catalog file with the extension .lrdata (LRDATA, abbreviation for the Lightroom data) there.

There is no need to back up your files to preview because once you have a copy of your catalog file and your original Image files or copy, you can recreate the previews.

    See screen capture.

  • I have a Mac and Lightroom 5. I was working on some files when inadvertently I did something to cause all my photos to disappear from lightroom. If I re - import how to retrieve the catalog?

I organized some files and noticed that a progress bar appears at the top to left that moved slowly from left to right. A message appeared to say something like "2 ongoing operations". When he finished all my photos had disappeared from lightroom.

Lightroom to backup every week and I have disc full back ups on external drives. When I re - import pictures I had already worked on them are now non-edited. What is the best way to restore my edits on the 10,000 photos that disappeared?

Basic rule: re - import is most of the time - or even never - a good idea

    • Quit LR
    • Back up your current catalog (*.lrcat)
    • Open the last zip of the backup folder and replace the current catalog.
    • Start LR

  • my photos on an external drive. my catalog is also stored there, (in the case where I have to change computers. where are stored my backups to the catalog? (can't find them!

as noted, my pix is on an external drive (pc), my catalogs are on the same drive. where are my backups being stored i cant seem to find them. If I open the folder lightroom with the name of the catalog on the outside, all I see is a bunch of files labeled 1,2,3, etc. and has, b, c.

shouldn't there be a folder labeled bacvkups?

If you have enabled the option to make catalog backups (you?) then your backups are in any case, indicate when the backup dialog box is displayed when you close Lightroom. If you enable the option to make backups of catalog, then you have not all backups.

Yoou can use the search function of your operating system to find the files on all hard disks that have a name that ends with. LRCAT to find all possible backups.

Note: the functionality of catalog in Lightroom backup makes a Backup of your file to catalog only. He doesn't have backups of your photos, you have to do it through other methods.

Note: backups SHOULD go on a different drive than the originals; you make a terrible mistake if you put them on the same disk as the original.

  • Files zip backup gave 'temp' defeats attribute set, backup software

    Hello world

I do regular backups of my Lightroom Catalog. I also have my backup catalogue included in the backup of my system. However, when Lightroom creates a backup of the catalog, the zip 'temp' attribute is defined. It's quite understandable, some (including mine) backup software will ignore files with the attribute set temp for the Catalog backup is not saved. See the 'T' in the column 'Attributes' in the screenshot below:

Note that Windows displays normally all attributes. You must explicitly add the column for the display as shown above.

I use 10 Windows on a PC with the latest 64-bit LR. I consider that this is a bug in the LR backup. The backup files are not temporary! I'm posting here hoping that Adobe's technical team will recognize and correct this problem.

    Thanks for reading,

    Brian

  • Lightroom and windows10

I upgraded my Windows 10 office a few days ago. After the update, I signed on my microsoft account and everything was all set to level. I added about 2500 files in lightroom and then I used the mobile synchronization. I backed up my images to a closed player and lightroom. A few days later, I turned on my desktop and it says that my PC has fully upgraded and gave a tutorial and all the new features. After that everything was back to normal and I open lightroom to find all my pictures have disappeared. I tried to find the catalogue but it didn't exsist anywhere. I also tried to look through the recent catalogues and nothing showed up. Where's all my images? They are also not on my Tablet?

    Hi youric,

Search your computer for the .lrcat files that would list all Lightroom catalogs you have.

Also, look for backup catalogs if you saved after you have used the last time.

By default, backups are located under Pictures\Lightroom\Backups

  • Backup options

    Hello

Overall, I am very happy with subscription mi CC!

The only thing I'm disappointed about is Lightroom backup options.

I want to mi original files backed up and synchronized.

So I think using Google Drive or Dropbox.

Is files is lost or corupted an isue with these services?

Should I get these two services to make sure?

Are there other sollutions in the same price range?

I keep a backup on one of my external hard drives and a cloud.

I'm not aware of cloud services lose or damage files, but I guess something might happen. You might want to consider this issue in the forums of Google drive or Dropbox forums.

Please make sure that you are also regular and of automatic backups of your catalog file, by using the function of Lightroom that makes backups, make sure you check "Integrity Test" and "Optimize catalog" when you perform the backup.

  • I do keep all backup files?

My pictures/Lightroom/Backup folder has HUNDREDS of files, from a few years ago... do I have to keep all these (there are 109 as soon as 2013, 99 from 2014, etc...)? They use a bit of hard drive real estate (each of the most recent backup files has a lrcat about 400 MB file)... I tend to go up when I close each session of LR... it would make sense to just keep a few recent versions? Thank you!

    Screen Shot 2015-05-07 at 11.26.38 AM.png

You should keep as much as you want to make your feel protected.

For me, it's about a month with a value of backups.

  • How can I change my lightroom catalog access path?

I had to completely clean my Macbook Pro laptop and start again - and I could NOT use Time Machine (something about the corrupt somewhere code). So well, I backed everything up and flies over my files and were in the process of re-installing software keys, such as the LR5. The problem is that my username on my laptop 'day' is different from a letter, so when I started Lightroom and directed her to my catalog, he came empty because the backup file has a different path that my current set up ('/Users/davidalden/Pictures/Lightroom/Backups/2015-05-03 "as opposed to"/Users/davidmalden/Pictures/Lightroom/Backups/2015-05-03 "" ")... it seems that trying to change the file user on Mac would require a factory re - install again , so I wonder if there is a certain * easy * way to change the path for my LR catalog...
