Limit hard drive under XP?

I have a number of programs that are not supported under Win7. My solution was to install a third hard drive in my PC and when I need sometimes to run XP, I just start to HD using the selection of BIOS which HD to boot from.

My Configuration:

500 GB SATA HD Win7 64 bit

350 GB IDE HD XP 32 bit< this="" is="" in="" a="" docking="" carrage="" so="" i="" can="" power="" it="" off="" when="" not="">

70 GB SATA HD - no data a few BONES.

From a few weeks if I booted to XP, when I right click on a file in Windows Explorer, it would break. Initially, I suspect a Virus but many controls with Norton, Malwarebytes and Windows Defender found no problem other than Defender would break using XP, after getting most of the way through the hard drive Win 7. However when I ran the AV programs of Win 7 HD HD checked OK.

The "Fix" was simply not to connect the 500 GB SATA HD to the PC. When disconnected XP works well. If I just plug in the SATA HD and before doing anything else, XP try clicking with the right button on a file on the disk XP, Solution Explorer crashes. I repeated this three times control.  It was turning off connection and disconnection of the HD.

Ideas or suggestions how I can avoid having to physically disconnedt Win 7 disc?  I have two partitions on that drive with a lot of data on the second partition I would sometimes do under XP.

If necessary, I guess I could move all my data files and move the OS disk 500 GB etc. etc, but it would probably also require a new installation of one or more of the two BONES.

Well I 'solved' the problem with a fresh install of XP

  • How to install a second operating system on a partition on the same hard drive under xp?

Hello!.. How can I install a second operating system on a partition on the same hard drive under xp?... Thanks in advance!

With the elders the older operating systems, in this case 98, has prior installation.

Is that of Vista as soon as it does not matter what operating system is installed first to do a dual boot.

With Vista, you can then install XP as the second installed the operating system in a dual boot.

But this isn't like you do is 98 or XP...

  • I don't see the entire hard drive under Vista. When I try to shrink a volume, I seem to lose space.

Original title: I see all the hard drive under Vista

I see on the C drive properties
    "space used = 143 GB ', and"
"494GB of free space.   But, when I try to do a third partition to install windows 7, using the disk management tool, after I click on
shrink the volume on drive c, I don't see that: ' available shrink space: 79, 917 MB ' and I also see 'total size after shrink in MB = 573891'.  I expect all the free space 494 GB available shrink.  I'm wrong.    Why all the 494GBs are not available to reduce or at least half of it, I guess that instead of only available to shrink 79Gs!
In addition, currently, I have three partitions.  For vista, office and other programs and data, C D like Factory Image of HP, a 11.3 GB and yesterday I made a partition for windows 7 with 48.83GBs and installed windows 7 Professional there.  Then I realize, I need more space to install office and other programs and data.  This is when I tried to shrink the c drive and encountered this problem.
    Can you please help me
    Thank you

    Hello

you do not shrink the C: drive and then expand the E: drive back in the space that you did

You cannot extend a drive backward

and I gave you a link to read and use on the problems of shrinkage

If as a result of the information on how vista disk management work does not fit what you want to do, you may need to buy 3rd party partition software

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.

  • Replace HARD drive under warranty?

This request is on your laptop L655 - 17H.

I think my hard drive might start to fail, so I wonder if Toshiba it will replace, even if it is currently in a State of 'working '. I recently have slow downs and several boots failed, but this issue seems to have stabilized itself for now (the hard drive seems to have reconfigured the bad sectors). From my experience, once sector remapping starts to happen, things tend to come down quite quickly from there. Here are the S.M.A.R.T. data off the drive.

Given that the threshold for sectors reassigned on this player is 36 (until he comes in and mark it as a failed disk) and 13 of them have been used in such a life short (less than 300 hours), I think the HARD drive in this book can be considered to be defective.

Would Toshiba share my view and replace the drive under warranty, or what I should expect some sort of catastrophic failure before going through the motions?

As a side note, Toshiba does not seem to be recognizing the serial number of this laptop, which is strange.

Thanks a lot for any input,

    Gareth

How can I get rid of the old points of restor on my hard drive

A better program of disk cleanup is cCleaner. Delete System Restore points may be important if you have little free disk space. The ability to delete them is one of the tools options. You can selectively remove those created in less important moments.

cCleaner comes with a registry tool. Do not use this tool as any registry cleaner could lead to the creation of very difficult to resolve system errors.

Yes, you can. I would, however, first back up the data before you extend the partition.

You must use the diskpart utility to extend the partition in the unallocated space. Basically, you need to delete and format the information contained in the other partitions.

This link should help you understand the diskpart utility

  • replacement hard drives under windows 8 PC

I bought windows 8 pro during the period of discount (until January 31). I installed it on my PC. Now, I want to replace my old hard drive to a newer version with more capacity. I backed up all my data, uninstalled all my software and apps on my laptop so that I can transfer this back when the hard drive is replaced. All that's left on my desktop PC is my OS.

What should I do for it so that I don't face problems (such as a copy of windows have perhaps been installed on several computers (error 0xC004C008)

during the installation and activation of windows 8 new hard disk?
Is there something like "disable or remove or uninstall of" windows 8 on old HDD to activate again?
or just replace the hard drives and the installation of windows 8 on new HARD drive without doing anything for windows 8 on the old HARD drive would do?
Thanks for the solution in advance.
    Yoann

The best thing you could have done would be to clone (image back up) the old hard drive to the new hard disk.  As long as you have not changed the BIOS or motherboard, there should be no problem with the license.

However, if him did not have the above and if it was an upgrade to win 8, you should have the old version of windows, e.g. Win 7, on the new hard drive, then install the upgrade.

  • Limit hard drives R31

Hi people, can someone tell me if I have reason to believe that the largest capacity HDD that can recognize my R31 (2656-MLG) is 137 GB?

If I get one more big one (say 160GB) I'm likely to have problems or should I stay under the limit?

  • Moving the virtual computer between hard drives under Linux...

I've got VMWare Server 2.0 on a machine Linux Debian (Lenny) AMD-64 with 1 HDD and 2 G of RAM.  I have 6 virtual machines all running operating systems.  I want to add more, but am running out of disk space.  If I add a second SATA drive on my machine and I have to dedicate a partition that it can just create a new data store, copy the virtual machine and add them to the inventory.  Then delete the original VM and the original data store?  Or is there a better way to do it.

I hesitate to recreate the virtual machine as the operating system and Applications literally take weeks to get through all the updates and settings.

Thank you for the helpful answers.

    Hello

This method will work. Keep the paths of directory under the same data store.

Close the virtual machine, then copy them. Add the VM that is copied to the inventory, start them and answer that they were moved.  Don't start again the originals, they can now be removed.
