Limits of variable width of race?

Hello

I've been playing with and loving the novelty race variable.

I have noticed, if I'm not mistaken, that a stroke must be aligned with the Center to operate...

Is this correct?

Also, I can draw with the pen tool or a pencil and change the width by using the variable width tool, but I can't change the width when you use a brush?

Is also in fact, true?

Thank you!

Babs

Yes. Achieve with varying widths, you can change a line to appear on one side of the path, if necessary, by pressing the keys (Alt/Option), addressing only one part of the race. But the Basic setting should be aligned to the Center.

And

A little. Art model brushes allow variable width, all the other brush strokes will not.

  • Variable width tool not work - cannot adjust the position of the points of width - Illustrator CS6

    Hello

I'm having a Mare with variable width tool in Illustrator CS6...

When I add points of variable width for a stroke I can't move the position of the decimal point of width. I watched several videos showing the width point slide seamlessly along the racing line - but I am unable to do this in my session of Illustrator!

However, if I move the cursor width-tool on the end of the race only point, a (~) symbol will appear and I am able to slide that point only along the race. But this isn't a suitable way for me to realize the effects I'm trying since.

I would be very grateful of any advice or experience with this issue.

    Thank you very much!

When you create a new point width, you can move it in the direction of width but does not change its position. Howeven after the point is created, you can move your cursor near the point which is along the central axis of the race, to move along the racing line.

  • Profile of variable width Brush tool keeps resetting

This problem is baffling to me. I'm relatively new to Illustrator, so I would appreciate help. I use Adobe Illustrator CS6 with a mouse, rather than a tablet of pressure.

When I create a line using the paint brush tool, I hold on to contain a profile of variable width. For example, narrower at the beginning and at the end of the race, but thicker in the middle. Now I can do this by selecting the line, after that I did the race and choosing the fundamental definition of the brush in the drop-down list.  But if I try to draw a new line, the settings are reset again.  I can't create a variable race during the creation of the race. The definition of brush guard given to pt 5 round and accidents vascular cerebral width 1 pt. It would be much faster if the race remained as a profile of variable width I created features.

I noticed the same problem with the blob Brush tool, except that it's even worse. With the blob Brush tool, the weight of the race resets always regardless of whether or not I try to define a profile of Variable width.

I tried to uncheck "New Art has basic appearance" mentioned on another forum, but that has not worked.

I know its possible because I've seen on this youtube video. http://www.YouTube.com/watch?v=R5wW_65iAiU

View the profile of variable width is maintained, like artists, raffles. It is not keep resetting.

    Thank you

OK - I thought about it.  I was tried on a thicker line, but I guess this line had been created by the brush, or at least brush "3 PT round" had been applied to it.  When I clicked on the back of base, the designation of variable width appeared.

Phew!  Thanks for sticking with me on this little stupid thing!

Why would I do this? I want to be able to sketch quickly, make the design of the characters and have a single shape to export Flash as a symbol of the head, etc.. I could use the tool brush and then object > path > terms of contour, and then use the Pathfinder Panel for unit all the traits described together form a compound... but it's too disruptive to sketch...

  • bars of variable width in the bar chart

I would like to establish a curve that looks like a bar graph, but I want to be able to specify the width of the bars. For example, if the user enters 0 for the x - min, 6 for the x - max and 5,000 for y - max, then I want to draw a bar that starts at 0, has a width of 6 and a height of 5,000. It seems that the options bar in a xy chart chart don't allow variable width, but rather centered around any value of x is associated with a particular value y.

Can I do this without having to manually draw line vertical and horizontal of each rectangle?

  • Variable width profiles do not apply

Jumped into illustrator this morning to simple line drawings. Made sure to uncheck new art has basic appearance. I have change the width of the stroke to any random value, choose a profile of variable width and draw. Profile width never changes. I jumped on one of my co-workers office and asked him to do the same. Same results. I feel like I'm overlooking something with this (latest CC) version, same results on windows 10 + 8.1 I've never had a problem with that in all my years with the help of Illustrator. Any thoughts would be great appreciated.

    Summary:

selection of a variable width profile does nothing for newly created paths.

What did you use to draw the lines? The pen, the pencil and line tool would work with the basic definition of Brush, but the brush is not.

  • How can I request a profile of variable width or brush to various traits of a length without them sculpting?

I am trying to get an effect of line drawn by hand with an illustration that I do. I built my art with the pen tool and have tried to apply a profile of both custom variable width brush that I found online. They both look good on the longer path segments, but they scrunch on shorter paths. Is it possible that I can apply the brush or the profile of all paths and have the brush apply evenly along the way for its length and then just stop rather than try to up the ante on the path set any length it is? I use Illustrator cs6 on a mac with the mavericks.

    Thanks for your help!

Apply a default line. Remove the profile of the wdith and brush

    Apply the "contour" effect

Apply the "Scratching" effect with small values.

In the Panel "Scratch" aspect should be below "shot of contour".

  • How to remove points of variable width?

I read a few methods to remove points of width variable tool on a path (NOT points of access path or paths.)

None of them does not work for me; y at - it a trick to do it?

I read: A) hover over the unwanted point (with var width tool) and positioning Delete and B) select unwanted point with var width tool and click on delete.

The two movements cause the entire path being removed.

    Thanks for any idea.

    w

Yes, this is how it works. Cclick to select after your icon changes (pointere with a tilde ~) and delete. If you have a single point of variable width, it may have the appearance of the deleted row, try aon a path with 2 points of variable width, until you get the hang of the present.

Yes, but as shown in your video, when all is said and done, you have the exactly width anchor point where you originally placed the cursor.

I noticed a 'ghost' width anchor point appearing when I tested, but it disappears as soon as I move the cursor.  The anchor of width is created exactly where I initially put it-in this case, at the intersection of the guidelines:

  • I have a circle of variable width, trying to figure out how to change start / end variation of thickness

    Hi all

I was wondering how I do and still be able to change the starting point / end point thickness?

In this screenshot, I try to get the starting point (point more thin) a little thicker.

Can I change these profiles of variable width or? Any other / better ways to do it?

    Any help would be great

    Use the width. {SHIFT - W}

Click the border, and then drag in or out to adjust the width. Drag the center point of the new width to place on a different, if necessary. Pressing DELETE will remove the new adjustment.

  • Locking access to Global Variables to avoid race conditions?

    Hi all

I'm developing an application where 'control' Subvi accesses a Subvi 'action '. The Subvi action is actually limited by a number of different high-level subVIs to I really need to use globals.

I wrote the next part of the code and was struck that it could lead to a race condition. Essentially my Subvi control runs two loops in parallel. Each loop reads the global increments a different value in each of them, wait a while and then returns to its previous value.

I wrote this piece of code to demo what I mean. The table of waveform takes the place of the Subvi 'action '. Running this code resulted in a competitive situation (one of the values goes from 0 to 5 range to the range of 5-10) after its loading into memory using a second time usually allows it to operate for a long time.

I modified the VI to exaggerate the effect of the condition of competition for demonstration. I've also implemented a solution using a local variable to stop the globals accessed at the same time. However, it is far more elegent and I don't think it will work for more than two loops. Finally, I need to use three loops.

I have attached my demo/exaggerated solution. If you can suggest a better way to solve this problem, I would be very grateful.

    Thank you

    Dave

I'm just out of the laboratory for a bit of fresh air--after watching this problem for hours - and he hit me. If I write access to my Globals in a Subvi - what I can do - and do the reentrant VI will not program only be able to access the globals in the order and avoid the condtion race in this way?

A reentrant VI uses its own separate for each instance memory space, so it means it can be called in parallel with another instance. In other words, it gives you just the same situation as what you currently have.

Or do you mean I can access to the global queue - I'm able to do it without a huge rewrite!

No, I wasn't talking about the queue access globally. I was talking to store the data in a queue.

Encapsulation of the value in a Subvi refresh, it's what you would do with a motor of Action. Note that you want an 'update' action so the write occurs inside the engine of Action VI.  This will give you as close to an atomic operation that you can get.
