  I had to remove the regedit.  for some reason the mail windows refuses to unassociate so go to regedit, I don't like playing with regedit, but it worked, I deleted and then again, all ok now.

  When I click on a link in my email Word 2007 opens in read-only mode and not a browser so I can visit the site. I'm using Vista Home Basic Service Pack 1. By clicking on a link in the body of the email will not open a browser. It opens Word 2007 in read-only mode.

  The answer to this problem is to make sure that Internet Explorer is your default browser in Windows 7. For some reason, a change was made in Live Mail which, if IE is not the browser by default, links mail won't open in Word in offline mode.

  My problem is the opposite of the OP, but the result is the same. Years of the use of previous versions of Firefox have conditioned me to open links in a new tab by selecting the second choice of right click menu without looking. After a week of trying to readjust in places reversed 'Open link in a new window' and "Open link in a new tab", I'm always unintentionally opening new windows instead of tabs every time after time. The point is, why should I have to adjust (or need a plugin external to solve your problem). YOU TEACHES ME HOW to DO THIS WAY, then why you changed it? Do you think that the reversal is most effective? A task force of new users select the new range? Do you have a taste of trial with Pepsi? Have you adopted Microsoft 'we know what you want better than you' policy? People in the drive of England on the left side of the road with the steering wheel on the right. Maybe it's actually a better way to do it. Maybe we should just rethink all cars new American model in this way and reverse all the signs from one day to the next without any warning - no ads, no choice, do it just because the engineers decided that it is better. While we're here, maybe you should adopt menu 'Ribbon' of MS then. I do sound a little angry or like if I have too much time on my hands?   Well, babacar, you were lucky that Verizon was trying to help out you.  When I called AT & T, they told me that was a problem of software 3rd party, they could not help me, and I should call Microsoft.  Like you, I am on disability and can't afford to pay the costs of assistance.  So, it is certainly a problem of Microsoft.  Maybe on one of the updates it I screwed up.

  My OS is Vista Home Premium 64 x.  Contacts files Windows Mail suddenly became dysfunctional.  The first indication was that individual files appeared as of the empty boxes with the exception of about 5%, which was the icon standard faceless person. When I try to open files by double clicking I get a notification that "Windows cannot open this file...". ».  However, I can open them via the edit function.   Try to go in the Panel. Default programs | Associate a type of file or Protocol with a program and then find and highlight the .contact file type and then click on change program button, and then set the program on Windows Contacts.

  See if that fixes it.

  Hello fantastic support network. Read these previous responses, but none of the work steps or apply here.

  It is a January 2009 HP Pavilion dv6-1030us notebook PC that is pre-installed with VISTA. I immediately

  client Windows Mail enabled & his works well on AT & T / yahoo mail Uverse. Microsoft Security Essentials is my protection.

  * November 30, 2011, receive POP3 abruptly stopped at ~ 15:00 but SMTP sending worked. With the help of the

  send-receive button gave the infamous 0x800ccc0f. Another IMAP account has always worked in the MAIL client.

  * The process of POP e-mail is reported in the normal status window: it's the same as always... connection.

  Bruce asked jumping me in here, because I'm more familiar with Winmail and the database and I wrote WMUtil.  The reason why I wrote this is because there is no easy way to manually compact the database, and WMUtil simply encapsulates the MS utility to make it easier for users.

  Here are a few suggestions:

  If you have the WinMail gadget running, get rid of it.

  For MSE, go to settings and disable the eml file type analysis.  Which prevents the eml files scanned and deleted, resulting in a database inconsistency that corrupts the database (fixes WMUtil).  If you are unwary enough to open an attachment infecting, MSE will always be in the background to block.

  Your problem is caused by one of the two possible, from what I can discern.  The database in Winmail opener could have been damaged, you can run WMUtil (and let him finish.  If you are worried, then do a backup of things, if you do not already have (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm)).  Then see if the e-mail problem accounts work.

  If you get the error, then the other question could apply, that is, there may be a problem message on the server that cannot handle Winmail and generates the error.  In this situation, you will need to identify the problem message and get rid of him.  Since you already have 2 copies of your 20,000 messages that you have in the POP3 Inbox, I suggest that you create a new folder of mail on the server and move messages from the Inbox to the server to it.   Then add another copy of the POP3 account in Winmail and see if it will download the most recent messages.  Who can get rid of the question then.
