Links related to the root & local test server

Yesterday, I realized that I have to use links to the root in a SSI file included so that it would work from templates and pages in my main directory (or other directories, besides), for example, "src=/image/picture.jpg". However, as my site is PHP, in order to test the pages or even to use the Live View, I do use a server 'test '. I did it without much trouble using a package called EasyPHP, support that puts in place a local web server as well as the module PHP, MySQL, etc. It all works very well.

The problem is that, in order to support multiple web sites, I have to use a "virtual directory" spec to direct the web server to the correct location of the files in my site. In the configuration for the test server, so I have to specify a URL prefix such as 'http://localhost/corinthian' of this particular site. Which worked previously, but breaks when using the root-relative links because the server see the "root" as the main directory "localhost" instead of "localhost/Corinthian. So now my SSI does not appear correctly because it is not resolved to the appropriate directories.

I don't think it's fixable, unless someone else has run into it and can think of something I could try. Anyone? Break some of my code in a SSI was certainly more of a challenge than I expected!

You have two options:

  1. Set up local virtual hosts.  I did and it works great!  See http://www.apptools.com for more information on how to do it.
  2. Make your root-relative links

  • Can a site the browser to examine all the links (relative to the root) as belonging to another area?

One of my sites gets its images on another server (and domain). Therefore, instead of paths relative to the root, I use full http:// URL.

Is not a big deal, except that the area where these images are stored too, sometimes changes. I have to find/replace all http:// on the right, so they point to the new domain.

I just thought that a cleaner solution (which can - hopefully - already exist) might be to insert a single line at the top of the HTML file indicating the browser to view all the links related to the root as belonging to another area.

    Something like:

    < meta domain = "alternatesite.com" / > "

    "< img src="/images/image.jpg "/ >

Where only one line should be changed, and the code would read as it is located on alternatesite.com, even if it is com.

It is already doable and if so, what is the right syntax?

    Thank you!

You have skills with the script server? It would certainly be a way to do.

  • How to transfer a website on my hard drive on a local test server?

My site, I've developed in Dreamweaver CS3, is currently all the static HTML. I do progress to change to have a PHP content, but my initial work is everything on my site online - I want to be able to do the development and testing on a local test server. I have successfully configured the XAMPP and make progress in the development of some pages on a * new * test local site (that I installed for local control to C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs), which I put in place to have a PHP-based dynamic content. What I * don't * find a way to do is to take all my local content for my website online (which is currently under C:/Documents and Settings/MyName/mysite /) and move it to http://localhost/ (in C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs), so I can develop and test new dynamic content for my site locally on my local Web server. I suspect that there are a few simple steps to achieve this goal, but I am quite new to this and cannot understand it. Advice and guidance will be greatly appreciated!

Open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:/Documents and Settings/MyName /,.
Right-click the MySite folder, and then select copy. Then navigate to the
C:/Program Files / xampp / htdocs, then right-click and select Paste.

Your site will then be http://localhost/MySite/

  • Links to the site fail on the local test server

Using CS4/WAMP/XP, I have a test set up server. Everything works fine except that when I specify links to the site, on the testing server they not go back to localhost, localhost/Frances. They work very well on the online site, but not on my test server.

This prevents me from using (and stable) "include" files for things like menus when parts of the site are in different folders.

I have my setup of site as follows:

    Local news

Name of the site 'FFG2009 '.

    Local root folder C:\wamp\www\Frances\

By default the folder images C:\wamp\www\Frances\images\

    HTTP address: http://localhost/Frances/

    Test server

    Server model: PHP/MySQL

    Access: Local/network

File of the test server: C:\wamp\www\Frances testing\

    URL prefix: http://localhost/Frances/

In my Apache configuration file, I have a virtual directory that is set up like this

    Alias /Frances/ "c:/wamp/www/Frances / '.

    < directory "c:/wamp/www/Frances /" > ".
    all options + includes
    AllowOverride all
    Order allow, deny
    Allow from 127.0.0.1
    < / Book >

I was informed that I could temporarily change the folder of Apache webroot on my record "Frances", but this stops other things like PHPMyAdmin to work. I also have other sites in my www directory and I don't want to change the rootweb Apache Directory each time I need to work on another site.

Is it possible to set up my site in CS4 so that the root links site go to localhost/Frances rather than just localhost?

    Thank you

    Tone'z

It's something I've had to do for some while now. Alias simply create shortcuts to a directory, they do not have their own directories 'Document Root'. I'm pretty sure you need to do is to set up a virtual host using WAMP (in fact, Apache, any installer is used). I'm almost certain that one of the books of David Powers cover the subject, but the one I apparently was already packed (moving soon).

I followed the steps of http://blog.jlbn.net/?p=23 and it was quick and much easier than I expected. He missed for subdomains, but I found the solution quickly to the http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showthread.php?t=394472 (I don't know why I didn't get it virtual host, but Google has gotten in the way :-))

So now I have http://localhost , http://test.localhost and a true domain that I own (it's not hosted online) all running on my local computer.

In your case, you might want to implement the subdomain http://frances.localhost so as not to cause interference with the actual domain name. Or make sure you have the server offline. If you don't know how to do this in the file httpd.conf, then in WAMP, it's two mouse clicks: WAMP-> put in offline mode. It is a good idea in any case

Thank you for pushing me to learn how. It was high time that I updated in any case my installed WAMP.

  • To make a link cursor to a URL relative to the root or arbitrary?

    Hey!

I'm using the slider which came with a default model value of BC (I think it's the nivo slider), and it gives me options for the element name, URL and Image.

The URL TO which the cursor currently links must be relative to the directory of the web application, if for example I only connects them to mydomain.com/slider/somepage when really I want to just link to mydomain.com/somepage.

Is there a way to get around this?

It seems that the model you are using uses Web Apps for the slider and the page layout by controlling the cursor indicates simply the {tag_image} and this tag encapsulates the URL web app mode Details around the image.  There are two ways to work around it...

The simpler, more interventionist, is to simply add 301 redirects for content you really want.  Let's say slider links to "/ slider/somepage", that is the detail view of the web application element, but you want it goto some other content instead...

    1. Just goto the Admin of BC and goto Site Manager > URL redirects and you'll want to add a 301 redirect of "somepage/slider / ' ' / whatever-url-you-want" and it can be compared to the root of the site, if you wish.
    2. Once your redirects are in place, you can disable the web application of Carousel/Slider detail views towards Web applications > carousel (or cursor) > edit Web application settings and find the box that says "disable the detail view.

The caveat is that whenever you add a new slider, you must add a 301 Redirect again, but do not have a lot of manure with the layout web app.  This extra step might be too much for a customer to be remember/do every time so there is another way.

The second is to add a new field to your Web App carousel and to change the layout of the list view of carousel include the new URL field we add.

    1. First, let's add a new field to our web application of carousel - goto BC Admin Web Apps > carousel > edit Web application settings
    2. Click on the "Domains" tab on the top of the screen
    3. Click on the "Add a field" button and the name, let's use "ContentURL" (there is a 'URL' field by default for each web application that uses default URL generated the question - we do not want that if we create another field for the URL we really want to make a link to) when she asks for the Type of field we will use 'Text (String' and check the 'compulsory '.  (Note: we use text (hyperlink) due to a limitation in BC Web Apps we can't calculate the value of the hyperlink immediately, instead, it manually creates the full markup for the link which is not good for us, since we need the image of the carousel inside our link)
    4. We have added the new field to our web application to the next, we will add this domain available to our web app
    5. Click on the link to "Develop" on top of the BC Admin - this will lead us to the beta to change code editor (I stay away from changes to the Colombia-British regular site/page editor since it sometimes removes code)
    6. In the "Files" Panel on the left, navigate to page layouts > WebApps > carousel and click on the file "list.html.  This is the layout for the display of the list that is used in your home page template - the scale of the site.
    7. If you used "ContentURL" under the new domain name, then you just need to replace this:
    8. {tag_image}
    9. with this:

  • {tag_image_nolink}
  • That's all. All is ready!  When you add the new field "ContentURL" values, you can use URLS related site as root ' / some pages ' or you can use absolute URLS if you want like "http://yoursite.com/some-page" but I think it's cleaner if you are using relative URLS.
  • If you decide to go this route and do not use the default display of the elements for the elements of web application Carousel, follow the instructions in the first example on how to disable the display of the details to appear in the search results or your sitemap.xml file.  And, from now on, ensure that each carousel has a "ContentURL", added to it, so she was going to meet somewhere...
  • Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

  • With the help of the links related to the Garland in an LMS... Help!

I worked on a module of training locally on the server of our company. I used the chaining to connect separate projects and it seems to work very well in our workspace. When uploaded to the LMS the Garland does not work. All we see is a gray loading screen as if the module is trying to find the specified project file. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Help, please! Thanks in advance!

For the output of the LMS, value options end of project module just stop Project, not open URL or file.  Do not use narrow project because it would sometimes make the window of LMS SCORM player to quit smoking.  Project is the best.

More good LMS have an option called something like Auto continue or reading continues, which means that when a module ends the following in the table of contents is open and read automatically.  Look for this option in your LMS and use it for your daisy chaining effect.

  • Scaling of issues related to the HTML5 application tests the Ripple

I'm doing my first application on WebWorks. I use ripple emulator to test. I'm just a simple doubt if I should scale is to say increase the size of the different HTML elements (such as buttons and text) or not, so that they are visible on the screen of a phone.

I recommend using the BB10 Simulator (or ideally dev alpha) to test the scaling problems.

Ripple frankly STINKS to test (not to mention than just general tests / making of course the app works at all). What looks good in waving may end up weird on a device real - or at least less than you expect.

  • Try to change the root directory in built-in Server

I run the server integrated into ColdFusion 9 to test a web site that I am building. My site is located in a subfolder of the folder wwwroot directory ColdFusion9 (C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\Everett\*). I try to use links relative to the root, but I would like that they refer to this directory, not the wwwroot directory. For example, I would like the link "/ index.cfm" to open the C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\Everett\index.cfm as opposed to C:\ColdFusion9\wwwroot\index.cfm. It is my understanding that this is possible through the virtual mapping.

I added this code in the jrun - Web.xml file in the WEB - INF directory:

    <>virtual-mapping

    > resource path < / * < / resource-path >

    < path system - > C:/ColdFusion9/wwwroot/Everett / < / path system >

    < / virtual mapping >

Then I moved folders CFIDE and cfdocs in the Everett subfolder.

Then I restarted the ColdFusion server.

Now I get the following error message:

When I go to http://localhost:8500 / I can see all of the appropriate files and directories, so I can see that the root directory has been changed, I'm simply not view any document.

    Any thoughts?

    Jeremy

HA! I don't know why it works now, but it does. Alexander, I tried your method and it did not work, but then I moved the directory WEB - INF back to wwwroot and he's fine now. For those keeping score at home, here's what I've done with:

        /*

        C:/Web_Sites/Everett2

        /WEB-INF

        C:/ColdFusion9/wwwroot/WEB-INF

        /CFIDE

        C:/Web_Sites/Everett2/CFIDE

As I said, I don't know why it didn't work the first couple attempts, but it works now and I guess that's all that matters. Thanks for all your help!

  • Real vs virtual of the file; Links from the root of the Document vs. Site?

I'm at my wits end with this... I sent DAYS fighting this one.

I have my files in the following directory structure

    /_CSS

    /_include

    / FAQ

    / Staff

    / Documents/postcard

    / Documents/forms

EACH html file (as it is in /FAQ /Staff or same/Documents/Forms) includes the file /_include/header.html which (among others) has lines such as:

    "< link rel ="stylesheet"href="/_css/main.css "type =" text/css"media ="screen"/ >

In the definition of my site, I have 'links relative to the root of the site'.

Now, I guess this means that all files in the root and start searching for files. HOWEVER, this is NOT the case.

I have the following in my include file:

    "< link rel ="stylesheet"href="/_css/main.css "type =" text/css"media ="screen"/ >

    "" < link rel = "stylesheet" href = "... / _css/main.css" type = "text/css" media = "screen" / >

If I have NOT two lines, some files do not find the CSS files

    WHY?

I lost DAYS on it and I just want to know why.  I'd like TO get this sorted out.

I files and RANDOMLY CSS files will not be judged and the layout is screwed.

While writing this email, I just noticed that it screwed up again.

My site definition file has "relative links to:" the value 'Site root' so (if I understand correctly) there should be NO reason then the file: ".

Cannot find the file/_css/main.html.  BUT he can't find it!

Can someone help me with this?  I'm at the point of desperation here.

You can see the site here: http://www.NevadaWomensCare.com.  If you can understand why /Documents/Postcard/Postcard.html can't find /_css/main.css then I would REALLY appreciate it.

    This code snippet

    Postcards
[an error occurred while processing the directive]

indicates that understands it not handled by your server.

The server has been configured to parse all .html files to include? The existence of the Include directive in the code (rather than the content of the Include file) does not suggest.

If this is not the case, the page of the postcard must have a .shtml extension (rather than .html) to tell the server to parse the page to understand them.

  • The root site links does not work; CS5.5.

How to make relative to the root links site work in DW and server? This article seems close and I think that the way in which my hosting is set up, this is what causes the problem. That is, I have a few sites in the same package deal with my hosting company. Some are areas of the add-on and some are subdomains; don't know the technical difference between either but he did cause hell to set up sites.

My current root directory includes public_html / that article condemns; However, I can't work without this site. I noticed that my navigation bar runs from the first page, click, but when I visited another page in the index, I am unable to navigate to the index page again in the navigation bar. It seems to be adding whatever page I'm on the path. Say for example I am on concretepokerrepair.co.uk/bespoke.php and I click on 'home' I get 'concretepokerrepair.co.uk/bespoke/index.php '; how weird!

  • Test Local PHP Server works not!

    Hi guys,.

I just set up my server to test local PHP, even if its does not work properly! If you could help that would be so wonderful!

    Here are my current settings:

    Folder on the server: C:\XAMPP\htdocs\valsoo\

Not all the files of work either at the root. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

    Thank you very much!

That does not surprise me. If you have difficulty with the files could not be found, simply remove a folder will not help. You might have deleted the record sought by the browser.

Assuming that XAMPP is installed, make sure that Apache is running and then type http://localhost in the address bar of browser to load the XAMPP admin page. Click on the link of the phpinfo() function in the left navigation sidebar and find the value of DOCUMENT_ROOT in the section Apache environment.

Once you know the correct location for DOCUMENT_ROOT, you should be able to put your files in a subfolder of the DOCUMENT_ROOT folder and define your test server correctly in Dreamweaver.

3 go Daddy uses PHP on Linux servers for hosting.

Well, Go Daddy also offers a variety of other options - but I guess you bought a configuration hosting Linux with PHP running on it. Let's not worry PHP here because you are using PHP for developing your site.

    4. because I'm not a fan of computer terminology, computers and computer configurations, I try to leave the default settings.

The only thing you need to keep "like what" is your "local Info". Other than that, delete configurations of both 'Testing' and 'Remote '. You should go there without delay.

    5. I'm not sure of the requirement of test server.  A "dynamic" page descriptions are unclear to me.  My website uses,

    a. html,

    (b) a page of XML data to sort my photos.

    c. spry tables cascading,

    d. scrolling of the photo thumbnails.

    e. links to pdf files and

    f. contact email.

A regular HTML site is usually "static" - as all the content you have in it is "hard coded" or "manuscript" in there. A PHP / ASP / JSP / CFM code is usually 'dynamic' - which means only the main template is usually done with the code. The content is retrieved from a database or from an external source. And this (to extract data from a database), such code must run on a server environment. This is the primary difference between 'static' and 'dynamic' Web pages. Do not enter into the details of what I'm not sure if this will confuse you more!

  • Test server for Site Dynamics w/Leopard

I'm trying to set up a PHP / site Spry using a Mac running OS X Leopard operating system. I'm using a PHP book that is very useful, but it has been written using Tiger and Leopard eliminated the Netinfo Manager. I had to change many 'hidden files' and use the Terminal & BBEdit to edit files and create any virtualhosts.

I have the latest version of PHP installed (10.5 x has integrated Apache, but it needs to be changed). I am in communication with my ISP, but I can't get past the error messages (I had to modify "php.ini" to report all errors) telling me that my definition of site for the local test server is incorrectly set up. I tried to use the root of the server computer, the folder from the site in the folder of the user and virtual hosting.

I am told that two files in my folder of the virtual server, which resides in my folder user with the extension ".php" are not executed by the testing server OR this folder is not mapped with the URL on the testing server. He asks me to verify that the URL prefix corresponds to the root of my site.

That's what he said when I use virtualhost; I get a similar message when I use the other two test local server configuration mentioned above. I followed the instructions in the book with a lot of attention, and I'm afraid that I made a mistake in some of the editing I've done for hidden files.

Does anyone know do this with a Mac running the latest version of Leopard?

Configuration of local test for Leopard servers is something that a lot of people talk on the web. I have read of many methods of creating and deleting accounts and virtual hosts. Perhaps my problem is that I tried the advice of many people who have experienced this problem with how Apple withdrew the Netinfo Manager when leopard is released. The need to modify the httpd.conf file is in most of these suugestions.

The thing that scares me is, is that I was told to type http://localhost/ and see if he showed me a screen showing that the Apache web server is running. This works.

I was advised to do the following:
Create a page called test.php, and type the following code:
<? PHP phpinfo();? > save to HD:Library:WebServer:Documents Macintosh.
Load the following URL in your browser: http://localhost/test.php
If you see PHP configuration screen, you are operational! Well, I get a message to report
Safari can't open the page "" http://localhost/test.php " because it does not connect to the server 'localhost'."

I'm stuck. What should I do? Check the various changes I made? I'm looking for help to set up the local test server. Perhaps the book I use (which was written for Tiger) does not go in what is what seems to indicate I have implemented in the Site definition. Or I messed up an important file. I'm new to the terminal and BBEdits to these Linux files using my computer.

I remember one of them/private/etc/hosts said, "Do not change this entry."

Told me to create a host and copy the existing settings of the local host (127.0.0.1)

But it helps when they show examples. As you can see I am confused.

The book is outstanding - it is written by David Powers. The only confusion is this leopard / test server problem.

    Help!

I use 10.5.2 and the latest version of PHP / Apache and Dreamweaver CS3.

The space in the name of the folder of two words was not only a problem; the fact that I do not name the folder 'egdwcs3' the biggest problem. As soon as I renamed the folder 'egdwcs3' it became a match for what I had called in the file/private/etc/hosts as localhost (127.0.0.1 egdwcs3).

When you told me told to rename the egdwcs3 folder I have (at the beginning) renamed Essential_Guide and, of course, always gave me error messages. Then it struck me that I did follow your advice 'to a T!

I wasn't getting what has been defined as the host should be identical to the name of the folder in the root of the server. Somewhere along the line, I saved a file in this folder wrongly named "egdwcs3.php" and I was looking at the files in Chapter 4 of the examples for the book uploaded folder files and I noticed there was no classified named 'egdwcs3.php' - one mentioned "datetest.php" that was when I had my Epiphany!

Now when I look at the file datetest.php with the button data direct I see today!

Consider this "Case_Closed.php!" and thank you, David!

    Once again - great book!
