LM 4.0, Service VM and ESX Maintenance Mode

I'm trying to put one of my hosts LM 4.0 in maintenance mode, it hangs there because of the virtual of Service machine.  Y at - there a trick to getting the crowd to enter maintenance mode without trying to stop the virtual machine in the console?

This is the correct behavior even though I agree that it's awkward. You can disable the host extending on that host and the VM service will get cancelled. Then, re-enable host extending on when you are finished with the maintenance mode.

To disable the host covering, access resources, hosts, then go to the properties of host page and uncheck the "Enable host host Spanning.

  • Maintenance mode to create query strings?

Why should I switch to Maintenance Mode to create query string parameters?  I created query string parameters in the past and I have never been held to switch to maintenance mode.  If I go to activate maintenance mode, here is the message I get:

Maintenance mode is currently DISABLED. Click on the button at the bottom of the page to activate the Maintenance Mode. With the Maintenance Mode on visitors register as not being on the Web site.

Then... I guess I have to move fast while it is in maintenance mode, so I don't miss the important Web site visitors.  I just took an Eloqua University class on the web of profiling and of maintenance mode was not mentioned when creating query string parameters.

Just wondering why this requirement has been added in order to create new query string settings?  I'm sure there is a good reason, but I was surprised by this today.

    Hi Vince,.

Maintenance mode is necessary if you are generating a high volume of web traffic. When the volume of Internet traffic is low, the system is able to create the settings while continuing to capture relevant data provided by all. If the traffic volume is high, the system cannot create additional "fields" in the database at the same time perform all write-queries that generate your visitors. In addition, when the new channels/parameters sets query are created, the system must comb all existing data to find these settings in one of the existing data, so if clickstream data is generated more quickly that the script can work through the data, it would cause a problem.

So yes, it is possible that sometimes maintenance mode will be needed, and other times not. If necessary, its best to activate only for very short periods of time, as Yes, all incoming data in maintenance mode is ignored.

  • 2 versions of firefox and the maintenance service are listed in "Uninstall or change a program" after update

I have updated to firefox from 15.0 to 15.0.1 using the dialogbox "About Firefox". under "Uninstall or change a program" in windows 7 x 64 I have now the two versions of firefox 15.0 and 15.0.1 registered as being installed.

also, I had previously disabled the option "Use a background service to install updates" and uninstalled "Mozilla Maintenance Service". now the option of background service use has been reactivated and the "Service Maintenance of Mozilla's ' has been reinstalled. I really like how mozilla has zero respect for the fact that I don't want some unnecessary services installed on my computer, just so that I don't have to click on a UAC prompt once per month.

I'll probably just uninstall the both firefox and the maintenance server and reinstall firefox. both versions are supposed to be there or is this a bug? and why reinstalled substantive service and the option is enabled when specifically, I uninstalled and disabled before?

Edit: I just checked my other computers. 1 windows 7 x 64 with the maintenance service installed and the other xp with the maintenance Server uninstalled or disabled. two computers only list 15.0.1 as being installed and the maintenance department was not reinstalled on my xp computer.

Just to let you know, the maintenance service is not running on your computer at all up to and update must be installed. It does not all resources and is perfectly fine to stay on your computer.

As for the problem with two versions of Firefox, uninstall the other oldest (make sure not to remove your personal data) and see if the new version works.

  • Maintenance mode, unable to connect: 514 error connection to the instance of service pass vmds

    Hi all

I do a few patches manually on ESX 4.0 host.  I forgot to get into maintenance mode, tried to patch and had an error on entering maintenance mode.  So I tried to get into the mode of maintenance with the following command:

    vimsh - n hostsvc/e/maintenance_mode_enter

    I get these messages:

    Current working directory: / root

vmaCore: initSSL: make versionCheck = true

Unable to connect: 514 error to connect to the instance of the service host-vmds

  • need to get the time host was put in the annotation and maintenance mode

Hi - it is possible to get the time that a host has been in maintenance mode and also seize any annotation is attached to the ESX host in VC?

    Thank you

    ~ Sai

    Also, by using "get-vmhost" twice is redundant since you have channeled from get-vmhost: "E = { get-vmhost $_ |}". Get-vievent ".

However, your order will be to return the entire event object and look like:

    Name                                    Event

    ----                                    -----

    host {VMware.Vim.EnteredMaintenanceModeEv...

    You can try below instead:

    Get-VMHost |? {$_. ConnectionState-match 'Maintenance'} | Select Name, @{N = 'Time put in MaintMode'; E={($_ | Get-VIEvent |? {$_. FullFormattedMessage-like"* entered maintenance mode *"} (). " Createduserid}}

But it can still recover multiple events, so a way to get only the last event and time is below:

    Get-VMHost |? {$_. ConnectionState-match 'Maintenance'} | Select Name, @{N = 'Time put in MaintMode'; E={($_ | Get-VIEvent |? {$_. {"FullFormattedMessage-like" * entered maintenance mode * "} | toplayer-last 1). Createduserid}}

  • Check if the esx host is in maintenance mode

    Hello

I need to know if there is a api in java vi which can let us know if any of the esx host is currently in maintenance mode?

I know there is a way to discover this through the same monitoring using event Manager, I need to know is an api live which can let us know if the esx host is in maintaince at that precise moment?

    Thank you and best regards,

    Rachid chollet.

    Hi rachid,.

I guess that the following property is what you are looking for: HostSystem.runtime.inMaintenanceMode

But watch out for the docs for the property when it reads it: it is not set during the entry phase of maintenance mode.

  • Can I create a second service console in ESX 2.5.5?

Can I create a second service console in ESX 2.5.5?

    Yes, I did in ESX 3. +, but I can not find/check it's ok in ESX 2.5.

    Procedures, orders or comments appreciated.

    ALL POINTS WILL BE AWARDED.

No, you can not - the service in ESX 2.x actuallys console loads before the vmkernel and has control over its own NETWORK card and the physical memory - in esx 3.x (vSphere) the VMkernel charge first and provides these resources to the service console allowing you to create several service console ports -

  • Issue between Cisco and ESX switch

It is a small deployment with an ESX Server running a Windows Small Business SERVER 2003.

ESX server has 2 network cards, previously a NIC was connected to a small FastEthernet Switch netgear and all workstations have been working on it.

I replaced the netgear with a Cisco WS-C2960S-24TS-S and the field still works fine, the problem is that I can't connect to the service console or the VI client from a computer connected to the switch.

I can't ping the IP switch ESX service console and also can not ping the switch since the service console.

Switch and ESX console can ping the Windows Virtual Machine and the virtual machine can ping both of them. Therefore, I can get to the VI client via Wirtual Machine (not the best scenario to manage one of its right VMS ESX host?)

I don't know what the problem is, but it sounds a lot there is a problem with the configuration of port / vlan on the cisco switch.

Can a Cisco expert help out me here?

Here are some details of the configuration.

Port group service Console and the port Vm group do not use no matter what config VLAN on the ESX Server.

I think I've seen this before. I'm not super familiar with this switch, but I think that the problem is with cisco-computer office macro.

Try using the macro switch cisco instead since you are addressing a vSwitch on the other end. You can always check the mac address table and see if your Mac to the vswif (service console) make their appearance. If they are not then appear this is an inconsistency in the port between the Cisco Switch and vSwitch.

  • Update IP addresses: Service Console and VMKernel

At one point, I went off my standard to apply IP addresses to the host ESX (esx 4). I want to update these IP addresses to reflect the appropriate settings. I need to change the IP address and the address of vmkernal. Subnets will stay the same, but the address themselves will change. Is this safe to do? I'll be able to migrate the computers out of guests and hosts in maintenance modes if necessary.

See here, but make the changes at the level of the console.

  • License available when one of the ESX Server is in maintenance mode

The available license count changes if ESX Server is added in maintenance mode? I think that the answer is Yes, but I want to be sure of it. Unfortunately I can't test this in my environment.

I have ESX 3.5 update 5 and VC upadate 6

    Thank you

I just tested it, and the number of licenses available for my 3.5 servers has not changed after that one has been placed in maintenance mode.  I wouldn't really expect him if she is always powered, but unfortunately I can't supply a stop for the moment.

  • Service console and VM kernel port group Question

I have the separate subnet of installation for the service console and the port the kernel VM group. Currently, I plan to install the software iSCSI adapter to connect the LUN. Is there something else I need to do to configure?

It is said that if the console VM kernel and service are in separate groups of port.

Usually I use a different physical network for iSCSI.

But if you only have two network adapters is not applicable.

Don't forget the vmkernel interface used for iSCSI is in the same logical network and same VLAN as your iSCSI target.

I need to create a service console more, I do not have it?

With ESX 3.x, you need a SC for iSCSI (or routing rules).

With ESX 4.x is not necessary.

Yes, it is a complete and utter scam.  Assuming that you don't give them access to your computer, you're probably pretty course.  They are the so-called "canvassing" - selection of lists of random phone numbers and try to sell services and/or access to your computer.  You did the right thing, hang up on them.
