Locate my photo files in LR

OK, I spent some time watching some tutorials on the main Board and how to find my pictures on the left panel. Having in mind that I have about 10 years worth of photos on my hard drive and readers. I use Win 7 and drop my picture by year, month and event. In the left panel of LR the only thing is the year 2015 and only one of the months. How to see what is on my hard drive?

I recently started having the SAME problem. Windows Photo Viewer working wonder in the past months on the same exact images without any problems.

I suspect that Microsoft update the code somewhere which pushed as an update - what is now the cause of the problem.

As a diagnosis, I tried with the right button "open with...". "and chose the paint. The same file opened without any problem.

All the pictures are generated for all images without problem.

Still, Windows Photo Viewer cannot display ALL my image files. Paint has no problem.

Similarly, right click 'open with... '. "and choose Microsoft Office 2010. Loading the image without any problems.

If the original poster has the same success using other programs - then the problem is with the Windows Photo Viewer - Microsoft of not having it recognize permissions for the code or something.

It's on Windows 7 Professional 64 - bit. Latest updates applied Microsoft.

  • Photo Gallery can't open the photo because you are not allowed access to the location of the file

Photo Gallery can't open the photo because you are not allowed access to the location of the file some of the image are open

Click on the folder and change your permissions for it and all subfolders and files all rights and if necessary take hand the case (and maybe the parent folder or even its parent - and all of the subfolders and files) until you have the permission you need.  Here are the general procedures to help you:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

    Separated from this thread.

I have the same problem when I try to access some of my photos through any method (File Explorer, IE, Windows Photo Viewer, etc.).  When I try to display the image, I get an error message that says "Windows Photo Viewer cannot open this picture because you don't have the appropriate permissions to access the location of the file."  A few photos in the folder open very well.

The photos are stored on the hard drive of PC in the pictures folder.  Not all pictures are affected - some I can always access.  I tried to run your AutoCorrect tool - it has not fixed the problem.  I tried to add "everyone" by your above statement and he could not solve the problem.  While it was updating the permissions for everyone, it displays the following error message: "unable to enumerate the objects in the container.  Access is denied. »

  • How to associate the photo files to the Windows or Windows Live Photo Gallery Photo Viewer viewer?

I want to be able to associate the photo files to the Windows and Windows Live Photo Gallery Photo Viewer viewer.  In both cases, I can't find the executable files.  I would like to know the file name and location.

    Hey healee.

There is no executable file to the Windows Photo Viewer. It is not a stand-alone application. So you can't run it as an application rather it runs with dllhost.exe.

Same information applies to Windows Live Photo Gallery.

The dll for the photo viewer file is located here:C:\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll

Coming to your point about the picture of opening attached files in Mozilla, you should be able to open the file with using Windows Photo Viewer open with which gives the possibility to choose the helper application.

    Kind regards

  • Working with photo files in Windows 7 without SLide-Show, etc.

Y at - it an option to work with photo files on Windows 7 WITHOUT using the slideshow, Sky Drive Option, etc...  I want to attach a file of unique photo to an e-mail message without these being included.  What program can I use to open these types of files?  Included in the .jpeg files could be scans of any document...

Paint, a part of win7 can open photo files, not that you need to post a photo.

By default, your image files are stored in libraries > photos, providing any image file has a descriptive name, in your e-mail software, new message, you select 'Attachment' and then in the window that appears navigate to the location of the images, it is an add the file.

You can also use the free Picasa program to catalog your photos, and depending on what email program you use, there is an option on a photo to send this photo

  • Importing and organizing photo files lightroom 5 for the first time. Clean photo hard drive files

I have a trial version of lightroom 5 and would like one once and forall to restore order to my two drives hard and lightroom 5 collection. Some photos in lightroom 5 seem to have lost their way. Some are in folders of Windows 7 and others are 9 elements. I made backup copies of some records and would like to have a more systematic approach to save them in the future. I have a NAS (network access storage) device and an additional hard drive, I thought that it would be better to use my cell phone as main for my photo files working memory such that it would be faster to work with the NAS or external and then again everything down to the NAS and external. I consider that the main challenge group all files and as much as possible to preserve the sides I gave photos; I would like to eliminate duplicats. on both the hard drive and in lightroom. I watched one of the vidios of initial training on the 'library' of the adobe help section and the presenter talked about two ways to import photos. the first and I think that I will use in the future is to open lightroom and import from the SD directly rather than having the Windows 7 import, and then ask to lightroom to find them. If anyone Kow of an exhaustive enumeration of the instructions on how to clean up my hard drives that would be extremely useful? Peter

I doubt that it is a list of instructions to wipe a hard drive, because each starting situation is different and your 'own' is probably very different than my "clean".

But let's clear up a few things first. From your writings, it seems that you think that you have stored pictures in post-secondary education and photos stored in LR. This is not correct. None of these programs to store your photos. All your pictures are on your hard drive, in folders, somewhere.

Regarding the missing photos in Lightroom, when you move or rename your photos and folders outside of the Lightroom, Lightroom doesn't know where they are and bring back them as being absent. To fix it, see: http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm related to that, you don't want to 'clean up' things in Windows and also "clean things" upward in Lightroom. Instead, once you import photos into Lightroom, you must do all the managing photos in Lightroom, not Windows, otherwise you'll just create several missing files.

Regarding duplicates, Lightroom has some tools to detect duplicates. He will try to prevent duplicates during the import, and if you are unable to import duplicates, you can use the "auto stack by Capture time" to try to find additional duplicates. But if those who do not work, then're it pretty much on your own.

With regard to put photos on your laptop to work on them rather than on your external hard drive, I think you will find that this gives a fraction of a second speed improvement that you may even not notice, which will be offset by the time you spend moving somewhere else photos when finished. So just put the photos in their final destination on your external HD or a NAS file and don't bother moving them to the internal HD.

Which leads to another point. Once you have done this 'cleaning', your workflow should be to put the photos in a place and then do not transfer! (Exception: not enough space on the disk or moving to another drive/computer) Make your life easier as possible.

One last point: seriously consider using keywords and other metadata for the Organization, rather than move photos/files from here to there, to reach the organization. These tools in Lightroom will give you the possibility of organizing in a much more powerful and flexible organization and what you can do by moving the photos/files from here to there. (Note: If you want all the photos in a sort of centralized location because it meets your storage needs, can do that because it meets your storage needs.) In this collection of photos in a centralized location, using keywords and other metadata to achieve organization and research)

  • Tell LR where the new location of the file is?

I moved all my photo files and know how to locate each file manually, but is there a way to say LR the new location of all the files in one go? He keeps on automatically searching for the old location.

Do the restoration of links to the file level, not on individual files. If you have moved all your photo files, ALL files in the files panel should have the "?" mark... so just right-click (ctrl-click on Mac) on the back of higher level in the folders Panel, select 'Find the missing folder', pointing to the same folder to its new location. If you have a single parent, you are finished. If you have more, rinse and repeat.

  • How to re - locate all photos in LR4?

    Hello!

Well, I had all my photos stored on a WD drive with the G: drive letter but I had to change it to J: and now when I run Lightroom I see the "photo is missing" message for every single picture in the Lightroom Catalog.

I still have pictures of the original and the same structure of folders as before. Nothing has changed at all, in fact, except for the drive letter.

If I click on the icon of little exclamation mark for one of the photos, I get a prompt asking me if I want to locate the photo and I can click on the location button. But you can't expect me to do it repeatedly for 5000 photos.

So my question is, is there a way to tell that the photos are now on the J: drive and not g: while preserving the previews to Lightroom?

This is an expected behavior of the Lr if you change a drive letter.

Library (Grid View) in the folders Panel mode (left side), you should see that all records have questions marks. It's Lr indication that he "doesn't know" where are your files.

The location of the files and images is stored in the Lr catalog, and whenever there is incompatibility between the location recorded in the catalog and the actual situation on the hard drive, you get the message "missing file" or "missing image".

The remedy is: go to the folder more high in the hierarchy of all the missing files, right-click and select or . Navigate to the drive by the letter changed and click on the corresponding folder. Since you have not changed the folder structure nor the names of folders, Lr will find the sub files on its own.

  • MAR to location of the file has changed?

    Hello

We use MAR patch files automatically Firefox by https://wiki.mozilla.org/Software_Update:Manually_Installing_a_MAR_file. However, the http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/ directory is no longer exists and has been replaced by a file README.txt document how to use web download.mozilla.org .

Is there a new location for the files last update MAR, or better still, a way to use the web service of releases to get a MAR?

    Thank you

You must download the files of MAR of the repertoire of the current version.
The most recent release directory no longer exists as you have noticed.

You can construct a URL like this with the current version and the version that you want to update.

This will give you a MAR file if this partial update is available.
