Location bar search returns false favorites. Bug?

Say I save a bookmark to "mozilla.org" and give it the name "XYZ". When I type "XYZ" in the address bar AutoComplete suggests the bookmark for mozilla.

Now say I rename this bookmark, describing it as "ABC" instead. Now * two * 'ABC' and "XZY" will give me the bookmark for mozilla as a suggestion.

In other words, location bar autocomplete seems to remember the old bookmark names instead of forgetting them. Bug or feature? If the latter, no way to turn it off?

Hello oda.krell, I think it is a feature. It is not the old name of the bookmark that is stored - part of the algorithm which suggests results in the drop-down field once you start typing in the address bar will remember which characters you typed in and which you have chosen accordingly. This is done to this site plus the next time that you start to type the same characters from the list...
This type of data is stored in the moz_inputhistory table in the places.sqlite file in your profile folder (which also holds your bookmarks and history). You can use an addon like https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/sqlite-manager/ to inspect or modify some items stored in this database.

  • Problem with location bar search

    Prior to joining Firefox4, when I type something in the box, Firefox would try to direct me to the location that I intended. But now with Firefox4, it doesn't happen again, and instead, it shows a result of research by the research of Babylon. What can I do about it? I've tried 'keyword.enabled', but it did not help.

With innovation by the name search, it performs a search on Google and if there is a clear match he will take you on the site, otherwise, it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it performs just a search on Google, if you type in something that is not recognized as a URL.

    To get the behavior of Firefox 3.6 on Firefox 4, you must change a hidden preference.

  • How to move the search return bar to the previous version?

    Using the latest update of Firefox gave me a new search bar, one where I can't change quickly, search engines to the contrary having to go into a menu to do so. This is detrimental for me since I use each search engine search suggestions, I installed. I can't do that. How to move the search return bar to the previous version?

    I found a solution. If you go in Subject: config, then find the browser.search.showOneOffButtons boolean and rocking that it restores the old functionality. (You may have to restart your browser)

    Note that, as always, to edit your subject: config at your own risk.

  • Search returns no locations

    I changed the location of all my folders for user data to another partition to the default location (C:\Users\) and removed the second partition.

    Now when I do a Windows search returns the results OK, but in the location now gone! How to reset indexing so this search returns the correct location?

    Hey, Gordon b..,.

    Check to make sure that each entry in the following location of the registry are pointing the correct partition on your computer:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER dossiers\

    Change the settings of the REGISTRY can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the REGISTRY settings configuration can be solved. Changes to these settings are at your own risk.

    If this does not help, you can check if a new user profile has the same problem as your current user profile.

    If the new user profile does not have the same problem, you can consider moving your user data in the user profile original to the new user profile using a process similar to the steps in the link below:
    Difficulty of a corrupted user profile

    Hope that helps.

  • Search by location bar goes to my internet service provider instead of search engine selected in the search bar; Why?

    Using Firefox 26.0 for openSUSE 12.3

    I disabled the keyword in the address bar search, because instead of results research of the source selected in the search bar (google), my string input sent to my internet provider, a kind of impasse, unproductive page 'web search' without any result.

    I had typed in "ezsniper' in the address bar. After you disable the keyword search in subject: config, my string entry took me to ezsniper.com, which is better than the impasse page Charter.com

    I put my addresses DNS 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google Public DNS)

    The problem is not to breed, but is stopped before I did the DNS change. Charter Communications seemed to allow a way to disable the 'service' who had ignored my browser/preferences, so that he could... I appreciate the answers, doubt that Charter will get another chance to again divert the DNS.

  • Add separators to location bar entries?

    I've recently updated to the latest version of Firefox and have spent the last days to make him look and work as I want (or at least close to it), but there is something in particular that is bugging me. Return on FF24 and earlier versions, sites inscribed in the history of the location bar are separated by pale gray lines. At FF38, there is no such separators. Should not be a big deal, but it is difficult for me to differentiate between different sites on the list quickly. I tried searching through various options and I checked some add-ons as Restorer of classic theme, but I did find something that will do what I want. Is it possible to recover these separators?

    I also wonder if it is possible to switch to this button inside the address bar and not to the right of it. I'm used to so it is to the left of the arrow of the menu drop down and I keep bad clicking now that it has been moved.

    Thanks in advance for any help!

    There is a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is placed at the right end of the address bar.

    • STOP button: during the loading of the page
    • Reload button: when the page load is complete
    • Print button: when you change the contents of address bar

    Note that you can middle - click on the Reload button to duplicate the current tab in a new tab.

    Another possibility is this code:

    .autocomplete-richlistitem {padding-top:2px!important; padding-bottom:2px!important}
    .autocomplete-richlistitem:not(:first-child) {border-top: 1px solid #ddd !important}
    .autocomplete-richlistitem[selected="true"] {border-top-color:transparent!important}

    To highlight it, you can use code like this if you wish;

    *|span.ac-emphasize-text {box-shadow: inset 0 0 1px 1px rgba(0,255,255,1)!important; background-color: rgba(0,255,255,0.2)!important;}

  • My address bar search has changed and it's really annoying.

    Hello.
    Today, my firefox has changed something in the address bar search system.
    Now the first link it provides is for "popular sites" or your partners no idea but it's boring as hell.
    He destroyed all my combinations of site search...
    When I wrote normally shortcuts like 'pwn' 'kol' 'da' for my sites now the first link provided to ask me "want to pwn/kol/da search in google? Dailymotion? »
    No ffs I don't want that. If I wanted to, I would use the search bar.
    I tried to fix it but can't find it in the normal options and won't play with the config of my own.
    Where I can it turn off? I can't stand it.

    You can set browser.urlbar.unifiedcomplete to false to remove the suggestion to visit the location bar page menu drop-down.
    Note that the sound is not really new, but it has now enabled by default in Firefox 43.

    You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
    You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • I can't remove a Location Bar Autocomplete entry

    When you try to follow the steps to remove an item from the location bar AutoComplete list, as shown here:

    http://support.Mozilla.org/en-us/KB/search-your-bookmarks-history-and-tabs-awesome-bar#w_removing-AutoComplete-results

    I encountered a problem interesting - the entry does not appear in the drop-down list, so I can't scroll to it, much less delete it.

    This is the case. My University has a mail to mail server. < ermergerd! > .edu. Until yesterday, typing'm ' or 'ma' or... you get the idea... would be seized semiautomatic at this address. Randomly, today, he decided to "mail.google.com" as default. Which sucks, because I used to just type me ' and 'enter '. It's particularly annoying because I am sure that I never actually went (by typing in the address bar, at least) "mail.google.com" because that "gmail.com" is much less typing. It is not my favorites, and it does not appear in my story.

    Completely erase my history isn't really an option in this case. It doesn't matter why. If the absolute answer is completely 'clear history', I'll learn to live with it. But I can hardly believe that there is not an alternative.

    I have the screenshot proof, but apparently does not include. I'm sure that this would not help, because it shows as "mail.google.com" autocomplete, as ".edu e-mail. < homeworkislate >"is the first on the list, and 'mail.google.com' is not found.

    Thank you

    I see you have Gmail Manager & installed Greasemonkey addons. Do you have one of them installed recently? One of them may be the cause. My money is on Gmail manager. In the case of Greasemonkey, maybe you added a userscript which adds sort mail.google.com to the address bar? You can try to disable Gmail Manager addon first then restart Firefox and see if mail.google.com is gone. Otherwise, disable Greasemonkey then restart Firefox and check again. There may be still one of your addons like google-No.-tracking-url , although I doubt that one is responsible. But you never know. You could also test with all the addons disabled.

    To turn off all your addons:

    Firefox button > help > restart with disabled modules

    (or help > restart with disabled modules)

  • Address bar search does not work

    When I type keywords in the address bar, it is used to return a list of google search results. He returns now, "the address is not valid. I know that I can use the search bar of google search, but the ability to search for keywords directly from the address bar is my favorite number one of Firefox and I want to.

    The problem started after I got the keyword. URL parameter in topic: default config after malicious editing on some Russian site search/spam, which also added a bunch of unnecessary links to my bookmarks bar. This is the second time that this happens, no idea how, but the first time that I fixed it the address bar search began working again immediately.

    I have not installed any new plugins or addons recently.

    I checked that keyword.enabled is set to true, and the keyword. URL is empty, what are the default settings. Are there other settings that might have been changed/what I should change to make it work again?

    You can try this add-on to see if it cures it: SearchReset

    If this isn't the case, you could use this keyword. URL, which seems to be the default in Firefox 14 (just, based on what I receive under a search):

    https://www.google.com/search?ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb&q=
