  What are the images of the 'source '? Your image files are on your computer, where you downloaded or created.

  They are not in a 'catalog '. A catalogue of the Organizer (or a Lightroom one) is that it: a list of files (a database to be precise) that stores the location of the files (the path, the identification of the car) so that their properties and the tag, ratings or ratings affect you. When you receive the catalogue of a Museum of painting, you get a book to search according to different criteria: the room in which are shown the paintings, painters, the painting category, date, size and much more. There are several kinds of clues to find according to these criteria. There are small "thumbnails" to show the paintings. A catalogue of the Organizer is just that. Why wait to copy the files somewhere? You simply files image, not the "source files".

  What do you mean by the "set destination directory" of the catalog?

  Catalogs are the folders containing the principal database (catalog.pse13db) and other components, including the thumbnail cache. Looking for the location of the catalog file in the Help menu > system information. You will see that there is no photo stored file, no "copies" or duplication.

  "Importer" is an ambiguous word in the Organizer.

  It refers to a process involving the downloader: download files (copy) of your card reader or camera, plus the indexing of these files in the database data. In this case, the copy is intended.

  Or it simply means indexing if you use the 'import' of files and folders. No copying is involved.

• Question of location/duplicate the catalog files

  I need assistance with my location of the catalog.  I restored from backup after resetting my computer.  Now, I have original photos on a D drive and I have a copy (maybe not a complete copy) on the C drive.

  I already had my catalog and my original photos on D (I think).

  Now when I add new photos, where should I put them?  I would like to put it on D, but all other pictures in the catalogue are on C.

  I would like to have everything on D and do not have a copy of everything.

  I don't want to lose one of the photos on D that are not in the catalog for a reason any.

  First, use the catalog to D: now to import new files. Make sure you set your preferences to import files from the card or the scans to the D: drive.

  Then you can compare what is on C: and D: catalog to make sure that they are the same. You can use the Explorer / Finder to remove duplicates for free space on C:.

  I guess that you always backup folder that you have used before: keep to make sure you have extra security before you do the cleaning on C:.

  You can delete unwanted catalogs since the Organizer catalog manager.

• Can't find location of the catalog on disk - PSE8

  I'm in the process of upgrading to PSE9 of PSE8.  Catalogue conversion failed.  I wanted to make a copy of my catalogue - then clean it before converting again.  I can't find the location of the catalog.  Is it possible in the registry or other to locate my catalog?  Windows 7.  I checked the information on this FAQ here - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/515/cpsid_51536.html#main_location and it does not help me find the catalog.  Thank you.

  What happens if you go to help > System Info in the Organizer? Is not listed there?

  What is the default location of the catalog for photoshop Elements 9 and what is the name of the file? I have a Mac. I searched my harddrive for names similar to the names of catalog files and didn't find any.

  You're talking about the location of the catalog from the catalog settings.

  Please click on Edit > catalog settings > general tab.

  There you should be able to see the location of the Lightroom Catalog.

  In all versions of items, you will find the location of the current catalog with the Help menu file > system information.

  You may need to allow the properties of Windows Explorer to "Show hidden files", given that the catalogues of the default location is hidden by default.

  Each catalog is a folder that contains subfolders and different files.

  The most important of them is the, an sqlite database that we, called catalog.pse12db for PSE12.

  Another important element is the thumb.5.cache which stores the thumbnails.

  Catalogs differ with each version of elements.

  Yes, it's how a backup of the Organizer. You cannot use the backup yourself, it is not a simple "copy" of your photo files folder field of the plantation. It is a resource for the process of restoration of the catalog. You cannot 'connect' in the backup folder. But the huge advantage is that you can restore your catalog (database and other resources) so your image files.

  No problem.

  The catalog itself is not a file, it is a complete folder containing your database: a file named ' catalog.pse13db, which is a database sqlite; more than many other files and subfolders.

  Looking for the location of the catalog in the menu help/information system of the Organizer. You may need to do a search with Windows Explorer for file catalog.pse13db.

  It is simple to copy or move the catalog folder. Because its content is not changed when you move or copy, it is easy to "Save" and "restore" the catalog itself.

  The problem is that if the content of the catalog do not change the location of the file changes when you restore to a different location (disk or main folder). You must "reconnect" files, which is to change the location of each file that is saved in the database.

  Knowing the purpose of all the files and subfolders in the folder catalog probably will not help you. To 'reconnect', you will need to use sql queries to change the catalog.pse13db database.

  Problem: I want to rename my catalog file and open the file by default. He has somehow a new name while I tried to use Lightroom on the road and then put those pictures in the existing catalogue at home on an external where lies my main calalog.

  So now I see that I can rename my catalog at the finder level, so easy, except that... where is this catalogue? I have no idea where the catalogue is that Lightroom uses to open by default.

  If you are on a Mac - right-click (or press control and click if you have a one button mouse) on the name of the catalog in the upper part of the Lightroom window.  It will show you the directory structure, select the parent folder and finder opens.

  If you are on Windows - do right click the name of the catalog in the upper part of the Lightroom window.  Choose 'Location of the catalog Show' (I think that's what it's called) and it will be opened in Explorer.

• Re-importation of the pictures already in the catalog

  I'm trying to re - import photos that have been moved from my old Mac G5 to my new mac.  They were previously in Adobe PhotoAlbum.

  Because the photos are not in the records of the date in the folder "photosfromG5/2001", I would like to re - import to a new location in the catalog, for example.» 2001 and having LR automatically creates metadata for example date records. 31/05/2001

  I do successfully a few months ago using the feature import and make and it worked fine.  Now after a few months, I can't do the same thing!

  Any suggestions? I use LR 3.4.1

  I think you need to move the images first to a different location (or rename the folder containing temporarily) and uncheck the box 'Don't Import suspected double'.

• Where the thumbs of the catalog is stored on your hard drive?

  I encrypt my complete external hardrive and photos with truecrypt.  When I remove my drive encrypted, you cannot not access files (obviously), and none should be accessible.  But photoshop contains again all my photos (although they indicate missing once I have enlarge them.)   It would be logical to me if items created inches to accelerate programs.  But the strange thing is, my entire hard drive search reveals nothing!

  I assure you I'm NOT looking for original photos, as my external is not yet connected.

  It's probably a good idea to move the folder previews as well. Extracts must be in the same folder as the catalog. If you do not move the previews Lightroom should start in any construction of previews in the new location.

  Looking for the location of the folder catalog in menu help/information system (Mac or Win).

  The catalogue is any of the folder containing the database and its associated files, such as the cache thumbnails.

  Download a catalog to a cloud makes sense as a backup, but you can't use it since it contains no images.

  Look in the Help Menu, the system information.

• How can I synchronize catalogs on 2 computers that use the same location for the image files?

  I do not understand Lightroom.

  For example, I use LR4.2 on a desktop computer and a laptop computer. Two computers (Windows 7 64-bit) go to the same image files. On my laptop in a folder, I have 42 master images and 5 virtual (virtual events) for a total of 47 images. But when I open LR4.2 on the desktop I do not see the 5 virtual (virtual events) on the 42 master images.

  Why can not I see the 5 virtual events since I can access the exact file and how I see the virtual evidence created on the laptop on the desk.

  It has no function in LR to synchronize catalogs.

  If your pictures are on an external hard drive, you can move the file catalog to this external hard drive, and then you will have a catalogue on your desk and another on the laptop. Just use the one on your external hard drive.

  If your pictures are on a network drive, you can not put the file catalog here, so the only answer I know is to manually transfer the catalog back from one computer to the other file.

  Why can I not see the 5 virtual events since I can access the correct folder

  Lightroom does not save your work to the photo files. It stores your work in the Lightroom catalog file.
